Why do people stop commenting on fics if they’re more than a week or two old? Please comment on old fics. Tell me you like my one shot from 2014. Tell me you like my old multi-chap I finished in 2016 that I spent a year writing. I will be fucking thrilled.

we are already living in the cyberpunk future and i know this because within a span of 3 days we went from this tweet:
Tumblr media
to thousands of people making phony images and replying to them with their passionate desire to have them as a tshirt to overload the bots with nonsense and junk and send out warnings to shoppers like this:
Tumblr media
and now we even have people replying to pictures of baby yoda with “i want this on a tshirt” knowing how ravenous disney is being with copyright in hopes to get the stores taken down altogether
i dont know what it is about stuff like this and the whole turn mei into a symbol of hk protesters thing but, its really reassuring for some reason

Why the hell are rich people so boring with one-upping each other? My bf showed me a little documentary clip about this artisan making tiles by hand using a technique that’s gone largely unchanged for 200 years, and I’ll admit my brain rot but my first thought was damn, if I was rich I’d commission a whole wall off this guy. Fucking imagine having a gorgeous tile wall in your house and telling your neighbour like
Yeah these are all handmade, there’s just straight-up one fucking guy in Egypt who’s a master of this specific technique and you can’t get these anywhere else. Copy that you bland-ass McMansion-having fuck.

I was reading a book about serial killer profiling, and it mentioned that dobermen were the vogue "tough dogs" of the 80s, while pitties are sort of the modern big tough guard dog. Is this true? Have any other dogs had this sort of label in a particular time period?
A lot of the pit bull fear is relatively new. I believe there was a TIME or Sports Illustrated article in the 80s/90s that specifically targeted pit bulls as dangerous dogs. GSDs, rotties, dobies, and even bloodhounds have all had their time as the trendy, “dangerous” breed. The dumb thing is, pit bull terriers don’t even make good guard dogs. True APBTs, staffies, AmStaffs, etc were never bred to be aggressive toward people. The problem is, people get dogs that look like this, that are mixed with who knows what, from shitty breeders, that are often bred to be tough/aggressive:

None of those dogs are pit bulls!!! Pit bulls are energetic, powerful, and prone to small animal aggression, but they were never bred to guard. Pit bull type dogs were originally bred for bloodsports involving other animals, not people. They are not necessarily an easy dog, but they were not bred to be guard dogs. These are TERRIERS with a whole lot of athleticism and strength behind them, so I hate seeing them pushed as the perfect all around family dog for every single person, but they are definitely victims of misinformation.
I am 100% not an expert on breed standard so I’m not saying these are perfect examples, but these are closer to actual APBTs, staffies, and AmStaffs:

The point is that these bulky guard dogs are deviating a lot from the breed standard, so why do they still get lumped together as the same breed? So the big problem today with “pit bull attacks” is that a. a lot of dogs are labeled as a pit bull that are not b. pit bulls are popular with backyard breeders. Breeding a very large number of poorly bred dogs either for color (i.e. blue nose pits) or toughness (i.e. all of the dogs in the first photo set) creates a lot of really unstable/unhealthy dogs. It’s also very sensationalized. “Pit bull mauls owner” gets more clicks than “dog mauls owner”. If a dog is tested as 80% lab and 20% pit bull terrier, guess what it would get labeled as if it attacked someone? The other issue is that “pit bull” is a group, not a breed. That’s like saying “setter” or “retriever”. There are at least 10 breeds, plus all their mixes and anything that that remotely resembles one of them, that get labeled as a “pit bull”. Of course there are more dog attacks from these dogs, we’re literally comparing an entire group of breeds to the population rather than just a single breed like we do for any other dog.
This is probably deviating a lot from what you actually wanted to know but yes, other breeds have had their time as the “bad dog”. One thing I find interesting is to look at the “mean” dog in a movie and see how it varies by decade. That gives you kind of an idea of what breeds people thought were “tough” or “vicious” at the time.

Purple Oceans
For about seven-eights of the Earth’s history, its oceans were extremely rich in sulfides. This would have prevented animals and plants from surviving in 70% of the planet. But it was a great habitat for photosynthetic bacteria that require sulfides and sunlight to live. Known as purple and green sulfur bacteria (because those are the two colors it comes in) these single-celled microbes can only live in environments where they simultaneously have access to sulfides and sunlight.
That they thrived in the sulfide-rich ocean has been confirmed with the finding of fossilized pigments of purple sulfur bacteria in 1.6 billion-year-old rocks from the McArthur Basin in Northern Australia.
