Visions

I awoke this morning to messages from an old friend saying he had visions of me back when I was in my mid-twenties while he was under anesthesia. Now isn't that a curious thing to wake up to in the morning? Especially from someone, I wasn't super close with and only chatted with a handful of times in the past twenty years. We also discussed the show "Northern Exposure,"; which pisses me off because it has never made it to streaming services due to some of the music's copyright use.

On other fronts, my wonderful wife seems to be on covid run number three, or is it four? I'm starting to lose track of it all. The virus is running rampant through many doctors here, all of whom have been reasonably resistant the past two years. I think three of them are out due to it right now.

I was doing updates of weekend activities on another blog and was thinking of moving that here. Still, I seem to be putting something on here daily or almost every other day, so maybe it's unnecessary.

I just heard the Whole Foods delivery land at the front door to my apartment, so I will get up and put that stuff away, then sit and read a little before the girls wake up.

Cheers!
Tim

I just can't solidify things

I've been doing a lot of babbling on here the last couple of days. But I cannot just stay firm in a plan for my platform so to speak. I think I am going to kill Micro.Blog and move timapple.com to Standard notes unifying everything. This, where you are now, will become my process and scream at the world blog. I can still make a mailing list with Revue free of charge that will unite everything. I believe this is the best bet. I am spreading myself all over the place, and it's just getting a bit ridiculous. I need to narrow things down.

7 Ways to Stop Writing "# of ways to do things posts!"

I don't think I have been more sick of anything else in my social feeds than "# of ways to do (insert mundane task)" posts. Let's fix it. And yes I sense the irony here, but it's satire anyway.

So you can...
1. Come up with some original content, then write about it.
2. Burn your computer
3. If all you can't think of to write is "5 Ways to love your cat", quit writing.
4. Just don't do that thing, find something that you only need one way to do it.
5. Google "Ways to do (add your topic)" if it exists, find something else to write about.
6. Go for a walk
7. Teach me the one really good way to do something.

If the above does not get the job done, please take up another form of artistic expression.

Thank you,
Tim

Written correspondence
I have been thinking about corresponding with certain people with pen and paper. I attempted a letter last week and I found it incredibly difficult. I am so used to having a computer for writing anything, what do I do if I make a mistake? There is no editing unless I do multiple drafts, that seems to ruin the whole thing though. Do I have to get comfortable having errors? Do I scratch it out and rewrite it or just live it uncorrected? How did we do this back in the day? I find it very interesting.
Then I wonder if I am wasting my time, wouldn’t it be great if people wrote back. Not just an email saying I got your letter. I find it picturesque, sitting at the desk reading a thoughtful letter from a friend or colleague. Maybe I would have to sit by candle or lamp light for effect.
I have the exact person in mind for the first letter. My friend Dave, he doesn’t do the internet, smartphones, or anything tech for that matter. He seems like the perfect person for such a letter. The only way I know to reach him is his landline. He would also probably write back. I believe he may be the perfect person to test this on. Yes, I think that’s the plan. Where are the candles now…

I’m playing with Quill, anyone use it before? Not sure what it’s use is other than a quick shortcut for posting.

Technological choices

So, as usual, I am fighting to settle on any one thing. Right now there is a competition between my Chromebook and my Surface Laptop. Let's start by saying the Surface is a way better machine than my Chromebook. At the same time, my Chromebook is no slouch compared to other Chromebooks. How many times can I say Chromebook at the beginning of this?

The Chromebook has the Surface beat at one of the most important factors; that being battery life. I am doing a test now, but I have been on the Surface for close to forty minutes and I think the battery is at 78% so far. How long do I need the battery to last? That is a good question. I just hate plugging things in. Also, the Chromebook has two USB C ports while the Surface has an A and a C.

A benefit to the Surface is offline use also. I have told myself I am going to use LiveWriter for most long-form writing. But if I am without a network I'm screwed. While I own a copy of Scrivener for Windows already; this gives me one less thing to pay for every month and offline capabilities. But this will also mean no moving around, scrivener lives only on the one machine. LiveWriter is supposed to be having an offline mode in the works I believe.

Note: I've been piddling around for an hour now and the Surface battery is at around 65%. Going to Spend an hour on the Chromebook now.

Ok, starting at 100% in the Chromebook now. It's a lot lighter also. Let's see how this lasts. In the meantime, I'm on here playing with my blog which is another technological decision I can't make up my friggin mind on.

It may come down to the Surface just being plugged in always on the desk and the Chromebook being used everywhere else. Deep down I don't like having two machines, is that weird? I don't want to work out of two. The solution to all of this may be a MacBook Pro. Maybe once I'm on the New York Times bestseller list...lol.

The more I am thinking about this, I like the Chromebook much more. It's just too darn basic and easy. I think it's the best choice. For writing at least. Maybe if I was using it for software development or something of the sort, then the surface would be the better machine.

So I've been messing around for about thirty minutes and the Chromebook is at 95% battery still. Been playing around with other stuff... a full hour has passed and Chromebook battery is at 90%.. that's pretty darn good.

Cheers!
Tim

Please jump in the nearest river!

Today I woke up in a hotel; I went down to get breakfast, and the TV in the lobby reads "Right blames Dems for variant." How in God's name is this even a thing? But, of course, we will not survive as a species; many of us are complete idiots. So forgive me, God, for the generalization.

My wife is a Doctor; three of her colleagues have come up with the virus in the past two days. These people have been working in the fire day in and day out for almost two years now. I'm no expert in anything per se, but the fact that they got it now maybe tells me it may be a different strain. Then again, maybe not. But all the denial and anti-vax crap is wearing thin on me. People need to take their Google education and shove it.

At this point, I am starting to lean on the idea that those who are not vaccinated by choice should not be allowed in our hospitals. Why should my wife expose herself to your stupid ass? She relays stories of people stating how proud they are they didn't receive a vaccine, as they are close to being intubated. They have no clue that there is a high chance of no return once they get to that point. All because they are ignorant.

This stuff ticks me off. So if you don't care enough about your neighbor, family, or the general public to take one for the team like the rest of us, please put on some concrete galoshes and jump in the nearest river and at least conserve some oxygen for us. Thanks.

Cheers!
Tim

A brain dump

These days I have an official blog. But I also have this "Hey World!" thing. So I am thinking about using it just for brain dumps when I feel like writing but not anything in particular; I will just let the babble spew forth here.

Like now, I have trouble thinking of stuff to write, so I may as well write here and see what comes of it. Most likely utter nonsense, am I right? I think so. But maybe some profound genius will reveal itself here. It will almost be like a journal of sorts for things I am too embarrassed to put on my blog.

Right now, I am trying to think about the extension, or something I know exists that I can install in my browser, and it locks me out of places like Twitter and Facebook for a while. I think that would be useful for me. So, after typing here, I am going to look for it.

Other than that, I don't have much going on. I feel like I should be throwing out some profound thought by now, but I don't have one. My daughter is bugging me to let her have a Discord account, and I gave her a "hell no!". She is 8, maybe when she is closer to 14. I hope a big EMP hits before my kids get too old so I don't have to worry about them and all this crap we call technology, which I love, mind you, but it's too late for me already. I'm a lost cause. Though I have slimmed down my footprint on the ole' electronic wasteland, I bet it's still more significant than the average person, though.

I'm also starting to love my Chromebook a bit more again. I'm sitting here using it now. It's a great little machine, and the battery life is fantastic. If it is ever replaced with another device, it would be another Chromebook or Macbook Air, maybe.

I'm also reading like three books at once, one hardcover, a kindle book, and I'm listening to an audiobook. I need to nip that in the bud and get back to just one at a time. Well, that's enough for tonight. I reminded myself I should read some.

Cheers!
Tim

I’m toying with using Ghost for my main blog. I love MicroBlog, but I find long form posts mixed with tweets/toots a bit clumsy. Especially since I’m tweeting much more than the long form. Plus newsletter integration is a plus. Still deciding though.

Journaling Process
Since I started journaling again, I’m finally getting settled in while being more consistent than I have been in some time. My Lochby has really made a difference. I have settled on using 4 inserts at any given time. One is my planner, one for writing ideas with thoughts and doodling, another for reading notes, and finally one for thoughts and things I learn in the realm of faith and spirituality. I really love this modular approach to things.
Before I think I used to stop writing in journals because I got them all jumbled and incoherent. Now I can keep things much better organized. Plus I can use Bullet Journal style scheduling which I enjoy. And at the same time be more creative without things being in the middle of my schedule. It’s a very nice system.
My next thing will be finding a proper way to store and catalog the inserts. I have some time I think before I even fill the first one though.

So I am working on doing a consolidated newsletter that will have all posts for the week from my three blogs. Then I will also add links to other things I found interesting on the web throughout the week. I am wondering if the full length posts should be in the newsletter or just links?

I recently stumbled upon @revue Twitters newsletter system. So I thought, maybe I should have a newsletter for my zero followers. If anything, it would be good to practice putting one together while I’m still (and maybe forever) unknown to most.

Just finished watching “Exemplar” the story of Abdu’l-Bahá on the 100th anniversary of his passing. There is so much hope in the Baha’i faith. It’s a good history if your into theology, spirituality, or the like.
