If Lucas had a nickel for every time it took him longer to recognize a legendary from his own region than he'd like to admit, he would have two nickels.

While this isn't a lot, he feels it's weird that it's happened twice.

🫧 Lucas gets a thought cross his mind. "YOU HAVE LOST THE GAME." If he looks around, he sees a flash of yellow.

"HECKING DAMMIT!"

Clamping a hand over his mouth, he looked around. A sudden outburst like that was bound to get the attention of more than a few people.

Thankfully, there didn't seem to be too many people around at this moment...but he could see a flash of yellow.

🫧Lucas gets a sudden giggle fit. Something is funny, but he has no idea what! Makes him feel good, though!

In the back of his mind, Lucas would be wondering what brought this on all of a sudden. There wasn't anything particularly funny going on around him.

Still, it always feels good to laugh! He'll enjoy it while he can, and worry about it later.

Don't mind Lucas, he's just formulating a plan of action for the first time he releases his new friend from its PokeBall.

Lucas has decided to gamble! He only participated once, so he may as well go all-in. With that in mind, he takes a deep breath as he approaches.

“This isn’t the only reason I decided to become a Trainer, but it was the deciding factor,” he admits. Taking off his right glove and pushing his sleeve back, he holds up his arm so that the scar on it is visible. “A couple of years before I started my journey, I was struck and nearly killed by something that left this behind. Nobody could figure out what could have done it. Trainers travel a lot, so I figured I’d have a better chance of finding out than if I just stayed in a lab, you know?”

“I won’t say if I figured that mystery out.” Because he still wasn’t sure if trusting Gatz with that knowledge was wise. “But it doesn’t answer the second question, anyway. If I could be honest, it’s mostly to spite Cyrus - by being a part of the world he wanted to destroy. It would be hypocritical if I shut myself off from the world after I helped save it, right?”

Scavenger Hunt - Final Day ( GAMBLE ) [ 67 ]

Gatz and Sableye are both judging now, as opposed to just Sableye. Gatz is leaning in, focused intently as he is given a taste of the knowledge he swore to never seek on his own. Sableye felt bad about the scar, but glad Lucas was okay. He wondered if the scar still hurt. But the mention of bettering oneself in spite of someone else only makes them think of a certain Maverick and can't help but chuckle. But oh boy is Lucas right about Cyrus.

"Hahah! That's a beautiful reason to live your best life. Cyrus is a real piece of work, and you are right to rub your persistent existence in his face. I respect the hell out of you just for saying that. I also respect that you'd take this gamble and go all or nothing with it. You sure you don't want to be a Maverick? You'd be a perfect fit!" Sableye in turn scratches a number on the table, a number he thinks is fair. 67.

((...So, was anyone going to tell me that the Adamant Orb and the Adamant Crystal are two separate items, or was I just supposed to figure that out while playing Violet?))

List of headcanons that I've tweaked/retconned since I started writing Temporal Platinum:

The addition of Blair (Umbreon) in Lucas' main team.

Aevus' presence in Lucas' journey being much like N's presence in Hilbert's (so basically Aevus is the deuteragonist). That's because before all this started, he noticed several timelines unraveling which was doing him a Concern.

Lucas has known about his Aura sensitivity since before his journey started. I don't know if I've had that set already, but I do now have it that Aevus was the one who tipped him off on that.

I've made this pretty unclear in the past, but now I can firmly say that Lucas isn't the one from an alternate timeline.

One night, Lucas suddenly found stranded in Solaceon Ruins after an encounter with the Unown. This encounter resulted in him getting an odd satchel (that might or might not have belonged to Rei).

SPEAKING OF REI. Aside from being the spitting image of Rei, Lucas does have a few parallels with him; grass starter and an Umbreon, among other things. But it ultimately could be argued that they are two separate people.

"Right?!" Lucas is this close to squealing. While he does find himself wondering if these were the same duck Pokemon he saw in the Village Bridge festival, it doesn't take him long to dismiss that thought. It's not important, anyways. "This has to be the cutest thing I've seen in a long time."

At the Wool Market

“Ah! Feeding the skiddo tickles!”

“Let's go get matching bracelets.”

“I don't know where I'd put this.”

“I want to smoosh my face into all of this fluff.”

“Oh wow, Gogoat leaves are softer than I thought.”

“Do you think the skiddo are mad I fed the wooloo?”

“I never knew I needed to watch duck Pokemon go down a slide until today.”

“Aww! The bun flopped!”

“Oh! I almost didn’t recognize you with the paint!”

“I think I recognize this character. Is his hair supposed to be green?”

“I want one so bad.”

Everything here is so pretty, I want all of it.”

“Let’s get matching bracelets.”

“My hands are all blue from the wool.”

Somehow, he's not surprised that the first thing he sees upon arrival is Delta carrying an entire metal slide.

Lucas took a moment to marvel at how quickly the messages came. Not that he wasn't used to it (thank you Barry), but he didn't expect Cynthia to be just as enthusiastic when focused on something.

[sms: Lucas] Oooh! I've dabbled a little bit in Contests, so I can definitely help there! [sms: Lucas] First one that comes to mind is Lopunny. Generally, a lot of people say that they're tailor-made for the Cute category.

A few moments later, Lucas sent another few messages.

[sms: Lucas] Out of curiosity, what about Pokemon like Roserade or Gallade? You know, the ones whose pre-evos originated in other regions, but their evolutions were discovered here. [sms: Lucas] I know a fair handful of the Sinnoh-dex are evolutions that we've discovered, so... [sms: Lucas] Asking because generally, I think Gallade would be really good for Cool, and Rhyperior's the first one that comes to mind for Tough.

One good pic deserved another. As if to prove his point concerning Gallade, he sends a picture of his own. It was taken in the middle of a Swords Dance - the Gallade's arms were somewhat blurry, but the focused expression on its face was clear.

Cynthia's reply texts fire back within seconds. She's on the ball, as always. She's absolutely blowing up Lucas's phone.

[sms: Cynthia] It's nothing too major, I hope.

[sms: Cynthia] I'm putting together a pitch to present to the Hoenn Contest Board tomorrow. They are looking to open more Contest Halls in Sinnoh, but they want to know what native Pokemon our region has to offer.

[sms: Cynthia] You are familiar with the contest categories, yes? Cool, tough, smart, beauty, and cute? I need some Sinnoh-specific examples for each.

[sms: Cynthia] I would do it myself, but I'm afraid my Pokemon would get upset if I didn't pick them. :)

<She sends a picture of her Milotic over, the Pokemon curled up contentedly in a luxurious bath with a crown of bubbles perched comically atop her head. A queen.>

Catch him suddenly remembering the time he witnessed Aevus not just reading someone to filth, but airing their dirty laundry for everyone to see.

And now he's mentally cringing, because how did he not connect the two dots sooner!?

[sms: Cynthia] Lucas. It's Cynthia, just in case you don't have my number saved.

[sms: Cynthia] Are you still doing Pokemon research?

[sms: Cynthia] If so, I would like your help with something.

The text messages are sent in rapid succession, popping one after the other. No other details are given, but it's clear that a prompt response would be appreciated.

(When she's focused and locked-in, Cynthia's efficiency rivals Barry's. And that's saying something.)

The phone was on silent, so Lucas didn't notice it buzzing as the messages were received. He was busy doing a little early-spring cleaning.

He didn't notice it, but Blair did. Not for the first time, she took the phone into her mouth and trotted over to Lucas. She nudged his leg with the phone, getting his attention immediately.

"Hm?" As curious as he was, Lucas took a moment to give Blair a scratch behind the ears before he looked through the texts. He was surprised to see who had texted him - it was rare that he'd hear from her these days. What could it be?

[sms: Lucas] Hi Cynthia! [sms: Lucas] I still do a little bit of research here and there. [sms: Lucas] What can I help with?
