I've been doing a lot of thinking about my family and how I was treated as a child, and honestly, my father has never seemed more amazing in my eyes.

I used to love Luigi(Mario's brother) when I was little. Like, he was my favorite character ever, and I had multiple plushies of him. Didn't give a fuck about Mario, vaguely tolerated Peach, but I loved Luigi.

On my first day of kindergarten, my dad gave me the number for his work phone and said it was Luigi's phone number. "If anything happens at school, call Luigi."And not even twenty minutes into my first day, I was having a panic attack. So I went down to the principal's office and called "Luigi."

Now, at the time, my father was in a meeting with his manager and his supervisor, along with most of his coworkers. And when I called, he picked up before he even left the room.

And he put on a very awful Italian accent and said, "Itsa me, Luigi! Whatsa the matter?"In front of his boss and coworkers. Without telling them what was going on. So they were absolutely bewildered, and he carried on like they didn't even exist. He only explained what was happening after I had calmed down and hung up, to which most of them responded with "Aww, cute."

I continued to call him whenever I got upset at school, and eventually his coworkers got in on it. I distinctly remember one of them impersonating Toad. I don't know why I'm telling you this, I just thought it might make you smile :)

That's fair, pharma coverage in Canada isn't 100% either (there's real criticisms of our system though none come from American politicians, nor do they come from Canadian conservative politicians who like to claim they're revolutionary political thinkers for fondling the balls of the American right, pretending they came up with their regurgitated vomit politic all on their own).

But like also I've been around long enough to know that Americans seem to worry about healthcare in a way I never have, so much y'all created one of the best shows ever made about a dude who decided to cook meth to pay for hospital bills- a concept that would not work in Canada. I know this because my dad had cancer. That does not seem like an improvement to Canada's admittedly flawed system however dramatized the depictions of American health in media may be.

Plus I just found it absurd and out of touch to say "oh you can pay 500$ a month like that's not a full third of the rent the person I'm talking to is paying. This is a perfectly affordable bill for most people" because that simply is not in line with any reality I've ever known 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ and also I must reiterate, with my income I probably pay BARELY more than 6 grand (500$ a month) in taxes a year in general (probably between 8-10K) and I get basically the same things he thinks Americans get WITH paying 6 grand AND taxes for a year and STILL having to pay for meds and other medical necessities. That does not make sense to call an improvement?? In fact it seems redundant but what do I know, unlike most I don't have a problem paying taxes because I live in a fuckin society and I like the damn benefits I get from the taxes I pay!!

Was arguing yesterday with a coworker that canada's system of health was better than the US and my coworker was whining his wife had to wait to see a Dr, so maybe they'll just fly home to Syria so she can do whatever she needs done there. To which I said yeah, and in the US you either have the money to see a Dr or you die I'm not sure that's an improvement (never mind almost no one can just fly to another country for healthcare, that's an honestly wildly privileged option to even consider what the fuck) and he says oh, you can buy insurance for 500$ a month. To which my first response was ??? That's a HUGE amount of money (and it should be noted I DOUBT I pay 6 grand JUST in healthcare via my taxes every year, the US does not have an improved system they just kill poor people)

Apparently that wasn't worth arguing with but like buddy I'm sorry but if you have the money to say "oh you can pay 500$ a month to not die and also maybe I'll fly to another country for healthcare" then your opinions are worth nothing when you can simply BUY life in a way most can't I cannot get over how apparently 500$ a month for insurance that WILL fo everything they can to avoid paying for the healthcare it's their JOB to cover us an improvement over wait times for free services. At least in Canada your waiting can pay off, in the US you're just waiting to die of your health complications, not to see a Dr to deal with them. Pay 500$ a month you'll be fine, so pay or die just like I said.
