Seiko SKX173 Review
Seiko SKX173 Review
Seiko SKX173
Today I am going to be reviewing the Seiko SKX173. The SKX173 i s a unique diver from Seiko that offers an interesting propositon to the budget conscious consumer. Its position in the marketplace is hard to distinguish tho as the SKX173 is essentially the same as the lower cost SKX007 but with squared indices . in fact these are the same watches. The different serial numbers just signify where they are originall offered in the world. The Skx173 is the american version of the skx007, but you can buy both in the US.
Seiko should get their stuff together on this one. Confusing serial numbers and pricing aside, i think this watch offers a lot for the price and it warrants a closer look at around $225 on the Gray Market. The SKX173 is put up against fierce competition being an older model. The SKX173 does not offer the same technoology that a lot of newer watches at this price point have for example the crystal protecting the face of the watch from daily wear is hard and lacks the crystal. Proprietary alternatives to sapphire glass while this is a significant upgrade from minderal crystal found on the cheap watched, the hard licks crystal is not as good as sapphire in terms of scratch resistance. Getting into the nitty gritty details of the movement, the watch features the synchro 7x 26 movement which was released in 1996. Because of the movements age, it does not hack or whine. As a watch collector, I constantly switch out my pieces and i foudn this particularly annoying. I could live with this drawback but modern alternatives to the SKX173 offer better movements for a lower price.
So what does this watch offer as a consumer you may ask. The first the watch offers the kind of unique retro design which has made the SKX line of watches stand out through the years in addiation, the watches case and its finishing stand out adding to the iconoic look of the piced. Even the older movement, the watch is technically impressive at 200m of water resistance. The scredown crown, not to mention these movements have been known to go for decades without a servicing. Ultimately I feel the watch is a mixed bag in terms of what it offers to the consumer for the price the SKX173’s positives and negatives for this category are fairly balences. So i feel giving this watch a 7 and a half out of 10 points for value.
Lets take a deeper look at the movement inside the watch. For the gears and technology which makes this watch tick. As i said in the previous section, the Seiko SKX173 contains the 7s26 movement which does not hack or hand wind. This means pulling out the crown will not stop the second hand, and unscrewing the crown will not line the watch. From a full charge, the watch can go for 41 hours before running out of power and needing to be wound again. This is a fairly standard power reserve time so I can not complain. The movement contains 21 jewels and the second hand operates or ticks at 6 ticks per second of 21600 ticks per hour. In addition to the 3 hands, the movement drives the day in date window at the three o clock position of the watch. These are easy enough to reset when the crown is pulled into the set position and they cleanly change over to the next day and date at 12 o clock. Ultimately the 7s26 movement offers decent value for the money and if it wasn’t compared to more modern movements, it would probably receive a higher score. That being said i feel comfortable giving the 7s26 movement inside the SKX173 a 7 our of 10 points for the movement category. I hope Seiko chooses to refresh the SKX line with newer hacking and hand winding movements.
Aesthetic design
The aesthetic design of the piece this is a largely subjective category and it may be the most important after all if you dont like the look of a watch, you probably shouldn’t buy it. So we urge you to just read alone with this category for yourself as i explain my score.
Starting from the face of the watch and working out the dial design is above average for the price the indices filled with lume and outlined with white paint are in line with the dial and match the coloring of this watch nicely. Its worth noting that these indices design reminds me a lot of the tudor pelagos, a watch multiple times the price of this one. The Seiko logo painted just on the 12 oc lock is neat and precisely typed with a pleasing typsetting. Moving over to the three o clock position the date window is cut neatly into the face down at 6 o clock. The only splash of color on the dial stands out with the watches water resistance rating of 200 meters. The hour and second hands are aesthetically pleasing while the minute hand jumps out. Im not sure if this was designed this way to accentuate the diving functionality of the watch of if it was just for looks but it is growing on me. As ive worn the watch, the minute track runs along the outer ring of the dial. Its chambered at an angle while the effect of this coping can be off putting, it makes the launch easier to read. The bevel numerical text also matches the dial well. Id say its a nice fit. Finally the case shape and polishing design in addition to the crown protectors give the watch a solid too like look. All of these elevenths combine to give the watch the retro look i was talking about before and the watch really lights up on the wrist.
Ultimately I thikn this is an iconic design that will continue to age well through the years. IU feel comfortable giving this watch an 8 our of 10 in the design category given the few small knit picks .
The second most important factor when considering purchasing a watch is usability of how the watch handles every day wear. As an engineer, I perform mostly desk diving and not scuba diving. This watch was indented for, nevertheless, i appreciated the 200 meters of water resistance this watch offered. As i was walking through city in a cold winter downpour i did not use the 120 click unidirectional diving bezel of the watch much but when i did it felt a bit cheap. The best watch i could describe it is that the rubber gaskets in side the bezel are rubber bands. The bezel has a bit of vibration and play when using it as it is intended. That being said, the only watch i have to compare the SKX173 to is my Christopher Warren Trident Craft 600 which has a much better bezel but also costs 5 times as much as this watch. I think Seiko made a good compromise when it came to the bezel of this piece sos they could keep the overall price down as i mentioned in the value category this watch has a hard lex crystal instead of a sapphire glass
This makes the watch face slight more prone to scratches. IT is also worh noting that the overall construction of the watch is pretty impressive. The watch is much heavier than you would expect and it feels like it would handle a rough environment well.

Seiko SRP777 Review 2018
The Seiko SRP777 is a relatively new addition to the Seiko Prospex Collection. Prospex stands for Professional Specifications, and as such is sold as a watch that Seiko deems worth of upscale components. Watches found in the Prospex collection will have highend movements, cases, crystals and bezels. If you want to check out the price of this on Amazon you can skip HERE!
Seiko SRP777
Seiko SRP77 Description
Sleek, stylish and sophisticated, the Seiko Men’s Automatic Diver Watch with Black Silicone Strap is a must for any sharp-dressed man. This highly functional diver is designed with a silvertone stainless steel case, a comfortable silicone strap and a black one-way rotating elapsed time bezel. Finished with a bold black dial, luminous hands and markers with silvertone accents and a day/date calendar, this timepiece complements both your work and weekend wardrobes.
I always said this throughout my other reviews as a rule of thumb which can apply in virtually every domain: You get what you pay for. In most situations the more a product costs, the more it pays for itself over time or holds value for reselling, and the opposite happens for cheaper items. Now based on your budget you can go for the absolute best watch brands like Rolex, Breitling etc. or you can go for a compromise between price and quality (see how I do not consider cheap watches as an option in any way). And there are a lot of watches that stand somewhere between these two extremes which offer good enough quality at a reasonable price. This is exactly the case of Seiko as a brand and of the SRP777 Seiko in particular.
Coming at a case diameter of 44 mm it is neither too small nor too big; I would say this is the best size to express enough masculinity but still maintain a sleek appearance. Speaking of other design elements, the bracelet is made of the same high-quality stainless steel as the case and features a push-over button closing system with a safety closure mechanism which makes it secure enough that it won’t fall off the wrist when you don’t want it to, but still remain easy to operate. Some people say that the dial is kind of “overcrowded” with too many technical inscriptions, but I would say that it is both a design and functionality element that truly gives the watch its own personality and actually makes it more pleasing and desirable. Since this watch is intended for heavy use, the dial window is made of a scratch and shock resistant Hardlex crystal which also protects the other two sub dials and does a great job in magnifying the fine inscriptions from all over the sides and the background including the index hands. Definitely, the looks of the Seiko were carefully crafted in order to satisfy the fashion-conscious pilots who do not accept compromises on design nor functionality.
Now that we figured out the design, let’s get to more technical characteristics of the Seiko SRP777. The 660 ft. water resistance will give you a lot of freedom regarding any activity that implies big depths of water whatsoever. If you plan on diving without a wetsuit or other kind of other special diving devices, you won’t have to worry about the resistance of the watch. Things get tricky only when professional diving comes in, and greater depths are involved.
At just over 44 mm, the watch is on the larger size. I feel it fits my 7 3/4 inch wrist perfectly. I’ve attached several pictures, including one next to my old Casio G-shock DW5600 for reference. The SRP777 is equipped with 4r36 Japanese automatic mechanical movement. It can be wound up by hand and it hacks (the second hand stops when the crown is pulled all the way out). Personally, I find the tactile and audible feedback of hand-winding a watch to be quite satisfying. I’m a bit OCD at times, and the capability to set the time down to the second is also nice. Everything on this watch feels solid. The 120-click unidirectional bezel is tight and rotates smoothly. The included rubber strap is soft and extremely comfortable against the skin. Some larger sized dive watches I’ve worn in the past have sharp edges or crowns that dig into the wrist, but not the SRP777. The rounded shape of the case, the smooth edges, and the crown at 4 o’clock make this is a pleasure to wear in any position. Lastly, the new lume Seiko put on this watch is super bright and can easily be read in even the darkest conditions. It glows even in broad daylight!
I feel the Seiko SRP777 is a steal at the current sub 400 price point. This watch has quickly replaced my Casio G-shock DW5600, which is more than capable itself. If you’re in the market for a solid every day dive watch, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Seiko Prospex SRP777.
Another feature that is worth talking about is the luminescent index hands and indicators for every hour which are good enough for most dark situations, although it does not make it suitable for deep underwater readings like dedicated dive watches. Also, it has a very nice date window positioned at the 3 o’clock position and an outer ring which rotates in response to a twist on the knurled ring and aligns with an inner ring to deliver data and tachymeter functionality.

The Best New Atomic Watch 2018
An atomic watch has a very small radio receiver in it that receives a signal from a real atomic clock in your country. This keeps it properly calibrated, and you never have to adjust your watch. It will always tell the correct time. If you are interested in how atomic clocks work, Feel free to check out the WIkipedia Article here.
There are a number a reasons why you would want an Atomic Watch. If you are like me you strongly dislike having to set the correct time on your watch. I always want to know that it is correct. You can’t get more accurate than having a watch that gets adjusted every evening.
Many companies make Atomic Watches, but there are just a couple that I am familiar with to recommend:
Seiko Atomic Watches
Usually known for their workhorse mechanical movements available at affordable prices, Seiko also has been making Atomic watches for a long time. They initially changed the watch game when in 1969 they released the first quartz movement. I don’t think you can get a more accurate watch than Seiko quartz movement watches.
Casio
Casio always gets a mention from us. Either the G Shock line, or some of their lesser offerings like ProTrek and Edifice. All are available in Atomic Watch Offerings
Citizen Atomic Watches
Citizen is a well known manufacture of Solar and Atomic Watches. They have been in the game for quite sometime and have really perfected what users are looking for in an Atomic Watch. They also have a less tough look and aren’t quite as bulky as an everyday G Shock Atomic Watch.
1. Seiko Astron
Seiko Astron 2018
Im going to start the list off with the most expensive Atomic Watch so that you dont fall off your chair. This Seiko Astron is anything but cheap. In fact it comes in over a thousand bucks, which is outside the realm of possibility for many people. This is a truly awe inspiring watch. The Seiko Astron isn’t even technically Atomic. It gets its time from GPS, which is ever better. Atomic Clock signals are sent out from Colorado in the USA. If you are in Hawaii, you will not be getting any atomic signals unless you have a GPS enabled watch.
Astron is the first watch to automatically recognize all time zones on Earth. With the touch of a single button, Astron adjusts to the correct local time everywhere on the planet. Seiko Astron is accurate to one second every 100,000 years, thanks to the time signal it receives from the Atomic Clocks in each GPS satellite. Astron receives all the power it needs from light absorbed through the dial. Not just sunlight, it is able to use all kinds of light, and store excess energy it produces in a power reserve with charge level is indicated on the dial. Astron has a perpetual calendar that will not need to be manually corrected until February 28, 2100
2. Casio WV58A-1AV
Since we started with the most expensive lets hit the other end of the spectrum. Most affordable Atomic watch. That would be the Casio Men’s WV58A-1AV. Don’t be fooled by its low price tag. This watch is every bit as capable and will suit most people fine. Sure, it is going to look out of place if you plan on wearing it in the boardroom. This watch should be what you take your Rolex off for when you swim those laps after work. the WV58A-1AV has all the shock resistance and water resistance you are looking for.
3. G Shock GW-9400 Rangeman
G Shock Atomic Watch
The GW-9400 Rangeman is the cream of the crop G Shock. I did an indepth review on the Gw-9400, check it out if you want to see the finer details of it. Many G Shocks have atomic radio features, But the GW-9400 has solar charging, 6 band atomic radio, and multiple sensors. It features an Altimeter so you can know your altitude. It also has a barometer so you can get an idea of which way the weather is trending. It has a thermometer so you know what the temperature is. Its tough and built to beyond the G Shock Standards. It is the toughest G Shock you can get!
4. Citizen JY8035-04E Navihawk EcoDrive
This is a mid tier price range Citizen Navihawk. It features the renowned Solarwave technology from Citizen. You put this on your wrist and forget about it. It wont need any more setting and like Seiko this will be accurate to the second in 100,000 years. You can also tell time with it in two time zones. This is a perfect watch for someone that already has everything.
5. Casio ProTrek PRW 3000
The ProTrek Line from Casio is great for avid Hikers and those that love the outdoors. It has many great features that outdoor enthusiasts will find incredibly useful such as great temperature resistance, sunrise and sunset alarms, and of course Atomic Timekeeping. As a result of this watch is also solar and will maintain a battery charge in complete darkness for 7 Months. 100m of water resistance makes this great for someone looking to kayak or fish with and not have to worry about damaging it.
Atomic Watch 2018 Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed my review of the Best Atomic Watch for 2018. If have any questions please feel free to send me a message. I love to chat about all the key differences of atomic watches. I am very passionate when it comes to atomic watches. If you have an idea for an Atomic watch that should have been included please let me know!

Seiko SKX007 vs SKX173 Comparison
Seiko SKX007 vs SKX173 Comparison
In this article I will review the Seiko SKX007 vs SKX173 Comparison. Though the Seiko SKX007 and Seiko SKX173 look very similar, they each have a few discernible features that set them apart. Unlike the SKX009 and SKX175, which are practically the same, These two watches are slightly different. Being able to tell them apart sets the practical collector apart from the Watch Savant. Check out my review of the Seiko SKX175 here.
Introduction
The SKX007 is the International version of Seiko’s famed Diver line. This watch is made for sale outside the North American Market. It carries the 7s26 movement found in various other Seiko watches. The SKX173 is the version made for the North America Market. Though the Caseset and movement are the same in both watches, there are a few various differences that we will go over below. With the rise of globalization, we are able to enjoy whatever watch suits us best. They are both available on Amazon for a very low price.
Seiko SKX007 Here
Seiko SKX173 Here
Seiko SKX007 vs SKX173 Comparison.
Seiko XKS007 is the internation model made for all markets outside of north america. 7s26 movement.
Seiko SKX007 vs SKX173 Dial Comparison
The first feature that stands out as in this comparison is the dial. The hour markers on the SKX007 are circular compared to the rectangular hour markers of the SKX173. This is more a matter of preference I think. Some people tend to prefer the older look of the rectangular hour markers, and I tend to agree with them. There is something about the look of those rectangular markers that really add a modern twist to a historical look. Review the 12 O’Clock hour indicator on the SKX007, it almost looks like a melting blob. The 12 o’Clock indicator on the SKX173 has a line down the middle showing how the bezel lines up perfectly with the bezel.
Seiko SKX007 vs SKX173 Second Hand Comparison
The second hand on the SKX007 is setup in a bit of a backwards way. For whatever reason the design engineers are Seiko decided to place the Lume for the second hand, on the opposite end. Reading the seconds in the dark because of this will always force you to account for this, otherwise you will be 30 seconds off. The SKX173 second hand is done correctly in that the Lume is placed on the correct end of the second hand.
Seiko SKX007 vs SKX173 Lume Comparison
.5 second Shutter Lume Comparison
The lume on the SKX173 is has a slight green tint to it that is visible in the day time. When the lights are off there is noticeable difference in the surface brightness of the Lume with the SKX173 being significantly brighter. The lume on both watches is nothing short of incredible and telling the time at night is super easy no matter which watch you decide to go with .
Conclusion
It is all a matter of preference. I really much prefer the hour markers on the SKX173. They remind of me the old Seiko dive watches of yesteryear. The SKX173 does cost a little bit more, but thats what you get for a watch destined for the North American Market. If you are slightly more price sensitive, you can pick up the SKX007 in the $200 range.

Choosing the Right Outdoor Clock
The Outdoor clock are designed to be functional as well as decorative. They are put together with metal, stone, resins and wood and are made to withstand many elements of nature. Most are also very versatile and can be used indoors or outside.
Whether it is sunrooms, sundecks, patios, balconies or a business, there is a design to fit even the toughest decorator. They come in an array of different colors and styles including but not limited to:
All-In-One Clock/Thermometer
Illuminated
Digital Display
Personalized
Pole Light Clocks
Solar Powered
Etched Stone
Atomix
Classic
Outdoor clocks can be mounted on a wall, table or a pole, they can be inset into the wall or even mounted on a surface area. When choosing the perfect clock for your needs, you are limited only by your imagination. Don’t miss that meeting, set the alarm on the digital CD/ alarm clock mounted near the grill and enjoy your favorite music. Want to save electricity, why not combine your clock and your outdoor lighting in a freestanding solar powered clock? Maybe you just want a simple yet elegant touch to your outdoor decorating décor and choose a classic timepiece or an Atomix clock for superior reliability. Whatever the need or desire, there is a clock to fit your need. Another plus is that the prices range to anywhere from around $20 to $2000 so they will fit into any budget.
La Crosse Outdoor Clock
When shopping for the perfect outdoor clock it is always best to first, know what your budget is and secondly, be sure you choose one that is reliable, that is a good timekeeper and that is easy to read. If the clock is for the yard area you will want to be sure you can read the time from most any angle or distance in the yard. This is after-all the reason for the clock. On the other hand, if you are looking for a clock just to add zest to your décor, remember that time keeping reliability should be at the top of your list especially if you plan to spend a fair amount of money on your purchase. If the clock is for a business then you will want to look for time keeping and exceptional structure and quality. If you need a clock to place at the poolside then you will want a tough water resistant case and going solar would be the safest as we all know, electricity and water do not mix.
Outdoor clocks can have many purposes and can be an inexpensive way to bring the beauty and style to your outdoor living area. The right outdoor clock positioned in just the right way could be a great conversation piece at any poolside party or barbeque.

Best Hiking Watch of 2017
It shouldn’t be so difficult to find a great hiking watch, and thanks to great review sites we help you narrow it down. It can be overwhelming with all the features crammed into electronics. I can help find a hiking watch specifically for your needs. There is a large variety of available features and this article should come handy to help you find the best hiking watch for your budget.
Many companies are making watches specifically for hiking and they are becoming very popular. Hiking watches are some of the most technological watches you can get. New models are coming out so quickly that it can be difficult to stay on top of what has the most features. The watched I selected below will be the 5 best hiking watches you can get as of this article. Some of the watches will have GPS, and some will not. I am trying to fit a hiking watch in for everyone’s budget. There are advantages to having a GPS, but some people will prefer to not have it. All the watches will have a Compass, and Altimeter. Two features I find to be essential for hiking.
What Features Should I Look for in a Hiking Watch?
Hiking Watch Features:
Altimeter
Compass
GPS
Barometer
Thermometer
Logging Software
Durability
I believe this is an all encompassing list of features found in Hiking Watches. They have special sensors not typically found in regular around the house type watches. Some of these features are more important than others. A Compass can be considered life saving when you are not sure what direction you are going. A Barometer can give you heads up to incoming foul weather. An Altimeter is great for showing your altitude. The best solution for a Hiking Watch involved a GPS receiver.
Garmin Fenix 3
Garmin Fenix 3
For the longest time, The Garmin Fenix 3 was the best all-in-one outdoor hiking watch you could get. It has all of the features you could want in a hiking watch and the battery life is outstanding to go along. The Garmin Fenix 3 is loaded with all the best features, Altimeter, Barometer, Compass. It has excellent GPS connectivity and also WIFI to automatically connect and sync the data it collects about your hikes. It records a GPS track log creating a “bread crumb trail” as you move. It also allows you to mark locations, such as a start/finish line, course checkpoint, or a campsite, vehicle or other point of interest. With Fenix 3, you can create and follow courses, mark up to 1,000 locations and store up to 10,000 track points and navigate to them.
Fenix 3 is packed with training features to tell you about your form and fitness. The first is the VO2 max estimator. When used with a heart rate monitor, Fenix 3 crunches data, including your running speed, beats per minute and heart rate variability to estimate the maximum volume of oxygen you can consume per minute. Track changes to your VO2 max to see your fitness gains and to compare with your peers. Other fitness metrics include recovery advisor with a recovery timer and recovery check, plus a Race Predictor, which estimates your ideal finish time based on your current VO2 max number.
Garmin Fenix 3 HR
Garmin Fenix HR
Much like the Garmin Fenix 3 above, The Fenix 3 HR is packed full of features. In addition to Altimeter, barometer, compass, and GPS, it also has a highly accurate heart rate monitor. This is a great way to monitor your BPM while on the trail. Just like the Fenix 3, you can WIFI sync your trail data. You can even track the trail so that is nearly impossible to get lost.
Garmin Software
When it comes to multi-sport tracking you’ll be hard pressed to find a watch with more on offer than the Fenix 3 HR. This works for – deep breath – running, cycling, swimming, skiing, hiking, paddleboarding, golf, rowing, hunting, fishing, the gym and more. If that list isn’t exhaustive enough you can even make up your own by picking the data screens you want. it still can’t offer as much as the Fenix.
Suunto Ambit 3
Suunto Ambit 3
I use this to record all my cycling, running, and swimming sessions. The watch is incredibly well-built. I’m not afraid of leaks or damage from activities. The strap is comfortable and almost too difficult to remove. I can depend on the heart rate monitor and GPS connect within a few seconds (faster than my iPhone can locate me on Google Maps). I use the app to sync my workouts, which are then instantly uploaded to Strava. Battery life is solid – at my usage level, I charge overnight about once every three to four days (I don’t let the battery level dwindle). The heart rate monitor is compact and the strap is comfortable and stays in place.
The software allows a ton of customization, so I can adjust the watch to my needs. It’s also rock solid – very few bugs. However, it does needs work on the user experience side. The features are all there and customizable, but once in a while difficult to find. For example, I wanted to adjust the GPS accuracy of my cycling routes (i.e. pinging your location every second vs. every five seconds, etc. in order to save battery), but could not find the option on the phone app. Instead, it was in the desktop app. Finding the solution required an email to Suunto support – albeit they were helpful and quick to respond.
Suunto Traverse
Suunto Traverse
The Suunto Traverse is a great hiking watch for the weekend warrior. It has most of the features you are looking for. The Traverse also has great battery life with the GPS disabled. This isnt like the apple watch that you will have to take off and charge every night. its definitely capable of going 100 hours on a charge. The step counter is a great feature for someone just going on casual walks or runs and want to work on increasing stride. it is surprisingly accurate. Like the other GPS enabled watches, it is capable of setting a breadcrumb trail making it possible to retrace your steps.
Suunto’s online sports community; Movescount.com, allows users to communicate and share stories about their latest adventures/endeavors with one another through the online website or the App which is available on both the android and iPhone platforms. Users just simply upload their “moves” directly to their device from their Traverse Alpha with the provided cable. Basically the Movescount website and App will allow the user the full Alpha Mapping functionality. Without going online or downloading the App, there’s no way to download your local maps onto file in order to have the full mapping ability to use all of the features such as the route navigation, waypoint alerts, breadcrumb trail and so on.
Casio ProTrek PRW30001A
Casio ProTrek PRW30001A
The PRW30001A is a great hiking watch, but it falls massively short of the others. First it does not have GPS function like the other watches do. It does have the ABC sensors, Altimeter, Barometer, and compass, along with a thermometer. The best benefit of this watch however is the fact that you never have to charge it. Solar powered watches are getting better and better. It really is great to not have to worry about whether or not your watch is charged. Add that to all the other devices who’s battery life needs to be maintained and watched.
This watch does fall short on those features though. There is no fancy touch screen, no brightly lit colored display. No way for you to record a breadcrumb trail. This is a decent go between option between regular old analog watch, and super expensive fancy GPS Smart Watch.

Best G Shock Survival Watch 2017
The Best G Shock Survival Watch
Looking for the best survival watch doesn’t need to be as hard as actually surviving in the wilderness. Lets be real here you aren’t Bear Grylls going out and putting yourself in a dangerous situation. You may have a tough job, or live an active lifestyle that puts those same serious demands on your time pieces. When you aren’t sure what the best choice is, its easy to be overwhelmed. Many companies claim to make the best survival watch, but who actually does? Suunto or G shock? Protrek vs G Shock? Luminox vs Seiko? I’ve taken the time to do the research. Let me help you figure out the best survival watch for 2017!
Casio G Shock G9300-1 Mudman
I’ve said this before, but I think that CASIO has outdone themselves (yet again)! This watch is incredibly cool, incredibly comfortable, and, well, INCREDIBLE! First off, it is a MUDMAN (I’ve also seen it referred to as the “Scorpion”) G SHOCK. G SHOCKS are tough to begin with, but the MUDMAN takes that toughness to a new level. The watch is sealed against mud and dirt, and is encased in a strong “armored” shell. If there ever was a lovechild born from the union of a tank and a timepiece, this is it. Now, in addition to that, this sweet little beast has a compass and thermometer, which are pretty accurate out of the box, and required very little fine-tuning by yours truly. It would be nice if CASIO brought back a thermometer that would take accurate temp readings while being worn
Casio G Shock G9300-1 Mudman
Suunto Core Black Military
This is one of the most sophisticated survival watch you could put on your wrist without having to worry about it getting damaged. The Core has an altitude log. While this doesn’t seem like a big deal, once people get an altimeter watch this is one of their most-used features. For up to seven days the Core will log your total ascent, descent and number of runs. For skiers, it logs how many laps you take while for hikers and climbers on trails that go up and down it will tell you your true vertical height gained. The Vector has a 24-hour log and will also store up to 100 logs. The Pathfinder models can only hold up to 40 logs.

The Best Atomic Watch of 2017
An atomic watch has a very small radio receiver in it that receives a signal from a real atomic clock in your country.
Seiko Astron 2017
Atomic Watch 2017 Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed my review of the Best Atomic Watch for 2017. If have any questions please feel free to send me a message. I love to chat about all the key differences of atomic watches. I am very passionate when it comes to atomic watches. If you have an idea for an Atomic watch that should have been included please let me know!

Watch of the Day – Bulova #96A143
Watch of the Day
Bulova #96A143
Credit /u/theJUIC3_isL00se
Todays Watch of the day is the Bulova #96A143.
This watch makes a great graduation gift to any young man about to embark in the world. They will love it and it will be their most prized posession. Its a great way to get a younger generation involved with the love of caring time pieces. It will certainly get noticed as they start new careers.
The crystal is slightly domed, making for easy viewing from all angles. I absolutely love white-faced watches, especially when paired with a silver bezel. The rose gold really stands out as well, and I’ve always loved open-heart style watches. Sometimes I’ll catch myself just staring at my wrist at the cogs whirring about.
It wouldn’t be fair to not mention any negatives, even though I’m highly biased in favor of this timepiece. I suppose the cons for some people would be the size; the watch face is 45mm, and on my 6.2″ wrist that looks massive. I like the big face though, it’s definitely plenty noticeable anyway! The other con for some would be the thickness of it as it’s quite thick. I don’t find it heavy though and I often forget I’m wearing it.
Lastly, it has the Accutron tuning fork at the 12 o’clock space and on the crown, which is fantastic as I’m aware Bulova have started to move away from that design.
If you want to gift a watch like this for the 2017 graduation season head over to Amazon and pick one up. The price is super affordable right now!

G Shock GW7900B-1 Review 2017
Is the GW7900B-1 a Tough Watch for 2017?
Can the G Shock GW7900B-1 pass the G Shock Toughness test? Check out below as we review a Tough Watch for 2017. If you want to check out its price on Amazon you can skip ahead here!
GW7900B-1 2017
GW7900B-1 Description
With the multifunctional Casio Men’s G-Shock GW7900B-1, you’ll finally be able to mix business with a little athletic pleasure. The case and bezel are both made of black Resin. This tailors to your more sophisticated side by offering a sleek look and smooth feel. Four large silver screws accent the top and bottom of the bezel. This displays blocky white words depicting the four button functions. The dial hosts five subdials depicting time, date, and even tide charts for the boating enthusiast.
GW7900B-1 Negative Display
Easy-push buttons on the case allow you to quickly go through your settings and work the handy stopwatch feature. A soft EL backlight provides you with access to the time, regardless of where you and your watch are. The wide band also consists of black Resin, closing with a silver buckle for a custom fit. This sporty timepiece is water resistant up to 660 feet (200 meters), relies on Japanese quartz movement, and boasts Casino’s shock-resistant technology.
GW7900B-1 Features
The watch is loaded with features.
GW7900B-1 Atomic Radio
1) The time is set every night through radio signals from an atomic clock. Every night at a few minutes after midnight the watch will try to update the time from the atomic clock. If it is unable to update the time, then it will try again every hour through the night until it gets an update. This makes the watch very accurate. It has been off by less than half a second from any of my other atomic clocks or the atomic time that you can get over the internet. This will be the most precise watch you will probably ever own.
GW7900B-1 Off the Wrist
GW7900B-1 Solar
2) The battery on the watch is recharged by solar panels in the watch face. The fully charged battery is supposed to be able to last about nine months without a recharge, but the solar panel in the watch face picks up a charge in direct or indirect sunlight keeping the watch battery topped of unless you hide in a dark room all day. A cool feature for those of you who may not use the watch for a while, it turns off late at night and will not turn back on until you pick it up. So the battery does not drain much if you do not use the watch.
GW7900B-1 Illuminated
GW7900B-1 Time Zones
3) I travel across the country for work, and the watch is very easy to reset to other time zones. It also has a world time feature that lets you check the time in every time zone around the world just by clicking through the different zones.
GW7900B-1 Wrist Shot
GW7900B-1 Stop Watch
4) Like just about every digital watch this one also has a stop watch. The stop watch capabilities are not as thorough as sports watches. For example, you can get a split time, but you wouldn’t be able to take several split times like you could with a Timex Ironman watch.
GW7900B-1 Hand Held
GW7900B-1 Countdown Timer
5) The watch has a countdown timer so you can let yourself know when you need to stop what you are doing and move on to the next thing. This is a great feature when it comes to cooking or you just need a reminder in a short amount of time. I always think i will remember to do something, and I always forget to do it!
GW7900B-1 Reverse
GW7900B-1 Alarm Function
6) There is an alarm function that allows you to set four alarms and one alarm with a snooze feature. Alarm functions are used less now that phones have become so popular. There still is a calling for having a great alarm function however.
GW7900B-1 Moon Phase
7) The watch shows the phase of the moon and where tide is. This is a great feature for those in the Navy or are avid boaters and fisherman. Its great to know when the next tide change is!
GW7900B-1 Water Resistance
8) The watch is water resistant to 20 bar, which converts to something like 170 meters. So you can pretty much wear the watch in most underwater conditions you will find yourself. Unless you are really going deep with this watch, even sport scuba divers will not be exceeding the operating pressure this watch is capable of. Its great at the bottom of the sea.
Conclusion
I really like the GW7900B-1. Its a great watch from G Shock at a great price. Sure it doesnt have all the crazy sensors that the G Shock Rangeman has. But it doesnt need that. It relies on being a tough beefy watch that will take whatever you can throw at it. Its always going to be accurate, and its going to charge itself. What more could you ask for. Head over to Amazon and check out what the new current low price is!

Is the Suunto Core a Tough Watch?
Suunto Core – All Black Military Review
The essence of the great outdoors is distilled into Suunto Core. Combining an altimeter, barometer and a compass with weather information, it will bring out the explorer in you. The weather was clear for days as your expedition ascended 10,000 feet, but then the barometric pressure started to change and your Storm Alarm went off. Thanks to the Suunto Core Altimeter Watch, you set up your high-altitude camp ahead of the big storm and are in your sleeping bag sipping hot cocoa before it hits. Bravo.
Suunto Core – All Black Military
About Suunto
Suunto was born in 1936 when Finnish orienteer and engineer Tuomas Vohlonen invented the mass production method for the liquid-filled compass. Since then, Suunto has been at the forefront of design and innovation for sports watches, dive computers and sports instruments used by adventurers all over the globe. From the highest mountains to the deepest oceans, Suunto physically and mentally equips outdoor adventurers to conquer new territory.
Suunto Core Variations
Suunto Core Altimeter
The altimeter contributes to your excursion in several ways. If you’re standing on or near an obvious geographic feature, such as a ridge, trail, or creek, the altimeter can alert you to your current elevation and help you find your position on a topographic map. Similarly, if you plan on climbing a slope to a certain elevation and then traversing, the Core can help you stay on course. And as a bonus, the Suunto Core includes a unique start-from-zero function, so you don’t have to enter a reference altitude. Instead, with the single push of a button, the altimeter will begin tracking your ascent and descent.
Suunto Core Barometer
The Core also includes a barometer, which measures and records air pressure to help you predict changing conditions–from sunny skies to hair-bending electrical storms. The barometer helps you decide whether to bring a soft shell or rain shell jacket when the skies look ominous. Even when to high-tail it back to the car. In general, low pressure brings inclement weather, while high pressure brings stability and clear skies. If you’ve arrived at camp and notice the pressure starting to plunge, it’s probably a good idea to secure the tent and crawl in. Likewise, if you were on a climb, it would be prudent to find shelter and retreat. Even at home, the Suunto Core barometer can look beyond office walls, skyscrapers, and nearby hills to help you plan for upcoming activities.
Suunto Core All Black Military
Suunto Core Conclusion
I like this watch, I really do. I want it to be so much more than it is. Unfortunately it has a bunch of downfalls, and they are too glaring. Its just not tough enough. It doesn’t compare to a G Shock. I have G Shock expectations but it just doesn’t live up to them. It looks like it should, but it doesn’t. I also think that it is priced a little too high. The negative display is also very hard to read. G Shocks suffer from the negative display as well, but this is even difficult to see in bright daylight.

What Military’s Use the G Shock GD-400
G Shock GD-400 Military Watch Review.
I am going to prove that the G Shock GD-400 is a great Survival watch in this review. If you are looking for a tough, and low priced watch that you can knock around, this is the one. If you are too excited and want to skip ahead and pick it up now from your friendly neighborhood Amazon, do that too! I am sure you will not be disappointed in how well this G Shock Survives the outdoors!
G Shock GD-400 stock
GD-400 Introduction
The G shock GD-400 is another watch in Casio’s offering that comes in at an affordable price. It doesn’t give up any of the tough features that we love. The G Shock GD-400 has a design unique to G Shock, in that it has two stainless steel metal bars protecting the face. The stainless bars act as shock absorbers to further add shock resistance.
G Shock GD-400 Negative Display
GD-400 Display
This watch features a negative display, meaning that the displayed time is light instead of dark. Overall this adds to the stealthy appearance and really looks great with the darker color scheme. The face is inscribed with green text which looks great with the black. If you prefer a different color, they are certainly available!
GD-400 Illuminated
GD-400 Resin Band
The resin band on this G Shock has to be one of the most comfortable I have worn. It really has a great feel to it. Slightly rubbery, but not too slick to be sticking to you in the humidity. That’s a huge plus for me as I am prone to perspiration. The watch is very lightweight and you wont feel the heft as its distributed by the band very gracefully. This watch is meant to be worn all day and all night. Not worry worry about taking it off. Set it once and forget that you even have it on, its that comfortable. Don’t worry about banging it up wrenching on a car, its that tough.
GD-400 Tough
Criticism of the GD-400
The negative display is hard to see in low light. Not just night time, but low light scenarios, you will definitely need the Super Illuminator backlight to see what time it is. While this might not be much of an issue for some people, for others its a deal breaker. Don’t let that deter you this is a watch thats meant to be tough. Its designed to tell time upside down. Its meant to be covered in oil and grease and keep running. What other watch is that capable? There’s a bunch actually and check them out here!
GD-400 Negative Display
Conclusion
The G shock GD-400 has some drawbacks for some. For most though this is the tough watch at an affordable price. It still has all its great features that you expect from a G Shock. Its so affordable that you dont even need to worry about it breaking. I would just buy a new one. Check out the super low price offered from Amazon. This would even make a great Christmas Gift for that tough guy in your life.

Is the DW9052-1V the Most affordable G Shock?
Casio G Shock DW9052-1V Watch Review
The Casio DW9052-1V is a popular G Shock offering from Casio that has all the basic features of a tough, shock resistant watch ready for everyone. If you want a watch that can survive harsh environments and active lifestyles, the DW9052-1V is for you. If you live a life full of activity but want a less busy design for a watch you can wear everyday, the G Shock DW9052-1V is your Watch. This G Shock has to be one of the best values around.
G Shock DW9052-1V
Who is the G Shock DW9052-1V best suited for?
This is the watch. If you have been obsessively looking at rugged digital watches, and are cheap, like me, this is it. This is a mans watch. This is a watch for guys who do things. If you are a lover AND a fighter, this watch is for you. If you ever thought about being a cop or a fireman, this watch is for you. If you ever dreamed of going out like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, this watch is for you. If your “watch collection” is 3.5 broken watches, this watch is for you. If you are at the point in life where you confidently meet other men’s eyes and give the half up nod, this watch is for you.
G Shock DW9052-1V Description
I have probably lusted over G-Shock watches for over 2 decades when I first saw one that a relative owned. However, I have very small wrists and always feared it would be too large for me. When I saw the DW9052-1V classic model at Amazon’s offered price, I figured I didn’t have much to lose.
The display is easy to read, but might be a tad small for those with poor eyesight. The green illumination is a neat change from all the Indiglo watches I own and makes reading the watch at night a breeze. The DW9052-1V has a good set of time functions, most of which I probably will never use. It is water resistant to 200m, which is twice as deep as any of my Timex watches. It’s even rated for recreational scuba diving.
HEading
It features a basic design with a regular resin strap that closes using one pin and multiple tightening levels and a case with a stainless steel back which has four buttons on the sides that I will talk about later on. However what is somewhat interesting or unusual is the display, because it is actually split into two different parts with a little indicator in between. On the top, by default you can see the day of the week along the date and bellow the time is shown with hours, minutes and seconds.
Alarm
The alarm sound is pretty loud to wake you up, although I would not recommend relying on it in any noisy environment, the backlight is good only to the extent that it simply exists to make the display readable in the dark, but in any other way it is just mediocre. You won’t get any kind of smart settings for it, like auto illumination once you get in darker places or any stuff like that. Also, undoubtedly you won’t see a thing on the display when making dives underwater. For some, this may be a big thing, for others maybe not so, but I considered it to be worth mentioning.
Conclusion
There are plenty soldiers deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan that have been equipped with this G-Shock mainly because they needed a simple, lightweight watch yet practical and with lots of functionalities. And many of them successfully returned with a still functioning and ready for action watch proving that Casio did a good job with the DW9052-1V.
Finally, the astounding number of positive reviews that this watch has received can be seen as a good indicator of how the majority of people perceive it. You can weigh the pros and cons and decide whether the Casio G-Shock DW9052-1V is a watch for you.

Clasp or Buckle?
A watch clasp is the closure of the watch. It’s the part of the watch people pay little attention to, even though it’s a very important part to look at. Also, a lot of people struggle to open or close certain watch clasp types, so they end up not buying a certain watch. This article will elaborate the different types of watch clasps.
Fold Over Clasp
This clasp unfolds into two halves to allow the watch to fit over the hand. It locks in place with a small hook-type latch.

There are multiple variations of this clasp type:
Fold Over Clasp with Safety
Fold Over Clasp with Single Push Button Safety
Fold Over Clasp with Double Push Button Safety

Deployment Clasp
This clasp is invisible when it is closed, it creates the illusion of a seamless band. This clasp is also known as the Butterfly Clasp, because it opens up both ways, with the clasp looking like a set of wings.
A variation of the deployment clasp is the Push Button Deployment Clasp. The difference with a regular deployment clasp is that there is a safety mechanism, the two push buttons. Press these buttons and the clasp will open.

Strap Buckle Clasp
A strap buckle clasp is only used on straps. It is the same type of clasp used on belts. The band must have a series of holes in it, for the buckle to lock in. This clasp is ideal for adjusting the tightness of the watch on the wrist. Most other clasps are not adjustable.
A variation on the strap buckle clasp is the Deployment Buckle. This clasp combines the strap buckle with deployment clasp. The strap is attached to the deployment clasp. A second variation is the Deployment Push Button Clasp With Buckle. It’s basically the deployment buckle with an added push button safety.
Final Words
Make sure to look at the watch clasp type before buying a watch. Because of the design of most of the clasps, the length of watch band isn’t always adjustable. Other than the designs and safety features of the clasps, there is no such thing as a best watch clasp type. Just make sure that the clasp will stay closed and you’re good to go.
