As i nod off at my desk I begin to day dream about the breathtaking beauty of the American Southwest. Suddenly I am whisked away to this enchanting land of red rock hoodoos and truly grand canyons as far as the eye can see. Much of this magnificent area has an elevation of 8000-10,000 ft above sea level and with no city in sight for hours - the skies are so dark that viewing our galaxy is as easy as opening our eyes and looking up.
This film was captured while in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona this past September and early October. I was leading two advanced timelapse workshops (TimelapseWorkshops.com), and spent another few days ahead of time scouting locations with my guest instructor, Sean Parker.
In total we drove over 30 hours to get to all of these locations - yet each minute was filled with anticipation of what mother nature would bring.
Anyone who has met me knows my love for the southwest. I have been photographing this area for the past 20 years and since launching my timelapse workshops in 2013 I continue to attract amateur and professional photographers from all over the world (including Brazil, Turkey, China, Denmark, Scotland, and the United States) who fly in to learn how to capture and create breathtaking time lapses using their DSLR's. These workshops are an adventure in learning, an escape from the daily grind of life, and a way to rejuvenate and find your creative voice.
Take a look at our upcoming workshops. If you would like to join other photographers on a multi-day adventure while learning to produce stunning time lapse photography - register for one of our workshops.

This is a video love letter to Moab, Utah and surrounding area to show my appreciation for how much I love the beauty of her landscapes and the dark skies above.
I first visited Moab on a cross country trip with my parents in 1977. I have to admit that back then I had no idea where we were when we were driving by these red rock formations. However, in 1994 I rediscovered Moab and instantly fell in love with this incredible small town, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. I knew I had been there before, and it just felt like home to me. I feel privileged to feel at home in a place as vast and beautiful as Moab. It has been 37 years since my parents first took the family to Arches and Canyonlands, but since rediscovering it as an adult I have been back there 7 times, 5 in the last 3 years, with more trips to come in 2015.
This short video was edited to a song that feels like a love letter to this beautiful area. The music, the arrangement, and the lyrics is how I feel when I sit under the dark skies or wander through the red rock canyons and arches. It's trans-formative. It takes you away from the stresses of every day life and truly puts you in touch with nature.
I also lead night-sky timelapse workshops in Moab, so please visit timelapsemoab.com for more information on the next workshop.

Two and a half minutes of non-stop lightning captured in 4k resolution just west of Hoxie, Kansas. This was originally a 6 minute video and has been edited to create the most spectacular 2.5 minute lightning show you have ever seen. I captured this storm while storm chasing with TempestTours.com. They are an amazing storm chasing crew that I was fortunate to be one of their participants for this amazing trip in early July, 2016.

Our 5th Anniversary of Timelapse MOAB workshops are now live! Don't miss out by registering before we're sold out. TimelapseMoab.com
-------------------------------------------------
Timelapse Workshops is an advanced timelapse photography workshop held in locations around the Southwest. This year 26 photographers from all over the country gathered in Moab, Utah to learn how to best capture and create landscape and night-sky timelapses. The workshops consist of classroom sessions on pre- and post-processing as well as daily on-location shooting in some of the most beautiful areas in the country. The workshops are held around the dates of a new moon and in locations known for having the darkest skies in the country.
This fall, from September 25-30th, 2016, this timelapse workshop will be heading to Southern Utah & Northern Arizona - giving photographers access to the most incredible scenery as they learn advanced timelapse skills - in class and out in the field. Only 12 spots are being made available for this workshop and less than that are currently open. Head on over to TimelapseWorkshops.com to check availability and to register for this workshop.
