My thoughts regarding the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
There are lots of horrible diseases and disorders and shit that can happen to anyone at any moment. Research for lots, if not most of them, are underfunded by someone's estimation. I can't help thumbs-up-ing everything involving this issue in a way. The videos of my friends dumping buckets of ice cube water over their heads are hilarious, and I thumbs-up them. I also thumbs-upped the capful-of-water-for-baby/rich-person-dumping-water meme, just because I can't help thinking both are valid points in the grand scheme of things. I don't think anyone should be vehemently deterred or criticized for participating and donating to any worthy cause, especially ALS because it is a horrifying disease. But I like when people in general are reminded of how much disparity of suffering in general there exists in the world, because it reminds people that everyone is human. Would the ALS victim who wrote the article rather die of ALS as an adult, or die from starving and dehydrating to death as a malnourished child? They are both among some incredibly awful ways for humans to have to exist and pass from the world. I don't know what to make of any of it, personally.
