If an author reveals themselves to be a horrid person, any memories you've already created with their media - any personal growth, any personal changes, any resonances with characters and situations that you've experienced before The Revelation - are your experiences. They will always be your experiences. No one can take that away from you.
That said, do not continue to participate in things that give that author money. Don't go to theme parks. Don't buy branded merch. Don't go to new movies. Don't buy new books.
Don't try to continue your healing at the direct expense of others' safety.

My dear lgbt+ kids,
Trans women are women.
This post doesn’t fix anything. It doesn’t roll back harmful laws, it doesn’t offer you legal protection. It’s understandable if you currently feel more bitter than encouraged when you see statements like that on social media. What can a silly little slogan do against this wave of hate and danger we are currently experiencing?
And yet, I think it’s more important than ever to post those silly little slogans. Here’s some reasons why:
Silence can look like agreement. Transphobes and fascists love to paint the picture that the „silent majority“ agrees with them, that they’re just saying out loud what everyone else is thinking. The „silly little slogans“ provide an accessible way to disprove that. They don’t fix everything but they offer an easy way to break that silence and show that transphobia actually isn’t as common or fashionable as fascists would like people to believe.
Complying in advance is never a good idea. If you give up on posting stuff like this because it feels like the transphobes are winning anyway, well, then you’re giving them exactly what they want. You’re basically agreeing that they already won. Quiet surrender is awfully convenient to fascists. Don’t give them that power.
Social media posts are also seen by trans people. Even if you feel like you’re not gonna change anyone’s mind: you can at least let trans people know you care. We need little rays of hope now more than ever, and social media posts definitely can be a way to make each other feel a little less alone. In fact, I think repeating a slogan can actually be ideal for that because they’re so easily recognizable. There’s comfort in that clarity. It takes off some of the mental load of trying to figure out if you’re a safe person or not. And that’s valuable in exhausting times like these.
So no, this post doesn’t fix anything. But it doesn’t have to. It just has to be one small, firm act of resistance. A reminder that not everyone has given up. A reminder that trans people are real, loved and deserving of protection.
Trans women are women. Let’s say it again and again. Lets say it out loud. Lets say it until the hate feels small in comparison.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad

Taskmaster the Podcast, Ep 39
What's Mark Watson's favourite thing about Taskmaster? Putting Alex Horne in situations!
Transcript follows.
ED GAMBLE
What about from across all the series - do you have a favourite moment that sticks out?
MARK WATSON
Well, I think because of being friends with Alex, I've always enjoyed moments where people put him in very difficult or awkward situations. Which happens constantly, of course. So, is it, I think the first series? Roisin made him eat all those pies because you had to work out the contents of the pie, without breaching the -- and I was watching that thinking "that's exactly what I would have done." I would have just forced him to eat them.
But you'd have to know Alex reasonably well to dare to -- and at that point it was the first series. There wasn't really a precedent of "oh, I'll just get Horne to do it."
ED GAMBLE
Yeah, that's very true. And I think that holds true for Tim Key as well, because in that first series, he made him eat dog food, I believe the last task in the first series.
MARK WATSON
Yeah, I think a lot of the, like, Little Alex Horne, the beaten down persona that he has, that was forged in the first series when people just used him as a sort of lackey, basically. And so, Greg, then, I think, took sort of encouragement from that and started to see him more like that himself. And there's been other examples of that - Tarbuck shoving Alex half naked into a cake. One of the great moments. Again, that's funny for everyone, but if you're watching that as Alex's mate, you know what a difficult few minutes of his life that is.
Even in my series, Bob shutting him in the...cuddling him in the boot of the car. Again, yeah, very, very tricky situation for Alex. There was also the hide and seek where -- there's been various tasks where you have to either hide from Alex or surprise him or shock him, things like that I tend to enjoy. That one where they were creeping up on him in a sort of deserted station, was it?
ED GAMBLE
In the railway -
MARK WATSON
In the railway yard. That was pretty great, as well, atmospherically. Some of the on-location tasks have been great, because it always springs a surprise on you when suddenly they're in a new location. But, yeah, I think my favourite motif is tasks that basically inconvenience...worry Alex in some way.
ED GAMBLE
Exactly, I completely get that. That's the relationship between friends, is that -
MARK WATSON
And Horne's so funny about it because his expression very, very rarely changes. There was a hide and seek game where he accidentally touched someone's tit. Was it Mel? It was Mel, that's right. Yeah, and again, it is...envision he's managed to keep the deadpan thing, but obviously we're reviewing it in the studio. It was as close as I've seen to someone actually dying under spotlight. So, yeah, I think at least once a series, there's a moment of supreme discomfort for Horne, but I always look forward to those.
Especially because...I mean, it's especially funny as a mate, but even if you've not been his mate, by the time you've been on Taskmaster yourself, you -- Alex has put you in all sorts of difficult spots. So, that sort of psychic revenge. He does deserve what's coming to him, yeah.

I wish kinky sex ed wasn't so stigmatized even among left-leaning "sex positive" circles. Everyone's all "uwu I'm a sub I'll do anything you ask" okay mommy wants you to read The New Bottoming Book so you learn how to sub without hurting yourself since your sex ed up to this point is porn and your ex boyfriend Jared who liked to choke you incorrectly
