ok so this takes place some time before they got together (so they are a bit younger) 

back when little things like these would make sakura blush as red as a tomato

This is kind of a post-war scenario where Sakura exhausts all of her chakra healing the injured before she could get to Kakashi. So instead, she personally attends to her old sensei and carries him back to Konoha

“Are you glad we did though?” He tries not to, he tries to hide it and smooth it over, but a twinge of nervousness makes its way into his voice. Behind the calm veneer of his gaze lurks the high tense trill of alarm.

Her smile burrows into the crook of his neck this time. She presses a kiss to his lips. “Of course. Always,” she answers truthfully, and the warmth pours off her words into his heart.

You know, I never actually imagined Kakashi and Sakura ever growing old together. I’ve read a few fics where it happened, but it never… computed in my head. I couldn’t imagine it. 

BUT THEN MOODIFUL819 HAD TO POST THAT FIC AND I JUST GOT THIS OVERWHELMING WAVE OF EMOTIONS

As much as I love a badass Sakura, I think the things she has to do at the hospital are much more harrowing and dangerous for her than whatever’s out in the ninja world. Maybe to the point that Sakura loses a bit of herself. But a guiding hand would bring her back, don’t you think?
