Blog22 | Self Reflection
I am coming up to the end of teamwork practices and it is up to me to get us over the finishing line. The sketches and documents have been created and arranged, the room and house have been created and the game is functioning smoothly. It is now over to me to create a presentation and pitch the idea.
I just want to reflect on ACE and the Design Sprint. They have made me realise I have a knack for speaking and presenting. This will be my third presentation of the module and I am pretty confident. This confidence was gained and acquired directly from ACE and the Design Sprint.

Blog21 | 3D GP - Research (pt.5)
I have presented the idea in Blog20 to my team and they are behind it. Completely this open world game would take anywhere from 6 months up to a year. There would be a lot of focus on mechanics, animations and details in the game to ensure it runs smoothly and is fluid, as well as beautiful. Open world games such as GTA are as good as it gets. We aim a smaller world. Ideally, we would like to create a small open world that would include different locations, which all have their respective activities to complete. Regardless of how big the world gets, we would always aim for it to be educational and baby orientated. An example of a small open world that I have taken inspiration from is The Simpsons’ Hit & Run. This is a game that took the GTA formula and put their skin on it hence why it’s arguably the best Simpsons game ever created.
Below is footage of the gameplay. (SKIP TO 3:51)

Blog18 | 3D GP - Texturing
The interior of the house now has a lot more life to it thanks to textures. The majority of the textures were taken from Quixel. The brief told us to have at least 1 item textured however we went above and beyond to have a homey and comfortable environment with the detail being the focal point.

Blog20 | 3D GP - Research (pt.4) The Vision
If time and money were factors that were on our side and we could create an actual game, I have an idea of the kind of world the player will experience.
I envision a world bigger than just the home. I envision a world in which a parent can play the game and leave feeling confident and knowing what to do as a parent. Viewing the world from 3rd person perspective gives the player a certain experience in comparison to playing with a bird’s eye or 1st person camera. This is clear even when driving a car in a game. Below is gameplay footage of GTA. (Watch the video for at least 15 seconds)
youtube
We would love to incorporate mechanics like this into the Baby On My Mind world. Incorporating the ability to drive in the world means there are endless possibilities. Picture this, it’s the morning and you’ve tended to all the needs of the baby. Now it’s time to go shopping with the baby making sure you drive safely, ensuring you deal with the world around you with only thing one thing in mind; the baby. This is the sort of potential this game could have. I assume it would take a few years to create an immersive world and there would have to be an entire team dedicated to the project.

Here are some of the bathroom items that would be included in the game.

Blog16 | 3D GP - The detail
These are early models of some objects the player will be able to interact with. On the table we can see a pack of cigarettes, a hot drink and a can. These are all objects that could potentially be dangerous to the baby.

Blog15 | 3D GP - Poster
Using my photoshop skills, I made a poster. After speaking with a school friend of mine, who recently informed me that he’s going to be a father soon, I was able to have a long meaningful conversation about the emotions one experiences after being told they are going to become a father.
He said that he has his baby on his mind, metaphorically of course. That gave me an artistic spark and I thought what “what if there was an actual baby inside a head outline”. This was the first thing I came draft I came up with. (Below)
...and this was the final thing (below).
I’m quite impressed with the outcome of this design

Blog19 | 3D GP - Research (pt.3)
Below is the game ‘Who’s Your Daddy?’.
youtube
This game had a multiplayer feature which allowed 2 players to play at the some time. For example, one player could control the baby while the other could control the father. The objective of the baby would be to die and the objective of the father is to prevent the baby from dying. As a team we concluded that we liked the role of the father and we interpreted our own version into our game as the main playable character in the proof of concept.

Blog14 | 3D GP - Research (pt.2)
After having started creating our world in the Maya and Unreal, the inspiration of a sims like world was coming into fruition. (Example Below)
As you can see, we created a world with the intention of bettering the what already exists. Tackling it from this angle allowed us to look at what is already in the market and to use that as starting point.
The picture above shows the level of detail that has gone into creating this world thus far. Learning how to use Maya and then applying by creating what I had in my head was not the easiest thing, in fact it was quite a challenge. The creation of objects, and a digital world for that matter, is so time consuming.
This creation process was something we gave extra attention to because cosmetics and detail are a major selling point in games such as The Sims.

Blog13 | 3D GP - Research (pt.1)
As soon as I was told the brief the first idea that came into my head was The Sims.
My imagination lead me here because it was the only game, from my knowledge, that included babies and taking care of your character; both being two things mentioned in the brief.
Having played The Sims many times before, I took direct inspiration from it and cherry picked the essential aspects to replicate in our own form.

Blog12 | 3D Game Project (3D GP)
The brief for the second assignment has been given. We have to create a 3D game which simulates a new born baby into a family. The game must keep the danger away from the baby and have a reward system.
My team is Team Scarecrow.
Initially, I was unsure about my group but as time has progressed I have to give a huge thank you to Muhammad for helping me and David (from my group) to get to know one another. Without his help I don't know how much progress we would've made. I’m glad my communication with David has been established because we’ve now got good chemistry together and are becoming a good unit.

Blog10 | ACE - Am I ready to be an entrepreneur?
The last thing on the agenda for me was the job interview. There was an interviewer who had already built up a reputation in that short space of time as being the harsh and blunt one. Because of those reasons I wanted him to do my interview. In situations like these I do prefer people who are honest and upfront because they approach their interviewee with logic and sometimes a painfully true reality.
This interviewer told me that if I want to be an entrepreneur I need to be hands on with everything including the admin stuff, accounting stuff and all of the above. I myself have to be able to be a team by myself. That is a level I have not yet reached but it is certainly something I am ready to dive into and learn about.

Blog9 | ACE - A solution for the Galleria?
For the group activity we were presented with the familiar outlet centre in Hatfield called the Galleria. We had to find a way to modernise it and attract more customers. As a group we realised there was poor advertisement from the Galleria, and most likely the council.
However, my favourite solution was to put an ice rink where the space is currently occupied by the kids section. I truly believe this would be an idea that would help the Galleria immensely.

Blog8 | ACE - Pressure Makes Diamonds
The feedback I received on the presentation was a massive confidence boost. Working all night and running on 3 hours of sleep in order to get the work done to a good standard paid off!

As you can see, I got a score of 4 -exceptional - and the assessor wrote “One of the best I’ve seen” which me feel so proud of myself.
I ended the day with a 4 3 3.
The most educational thing for me was the 1 on 1 interview. The interviewer asked me some questions that required a lot of thought. He gave me a reality check in some areas. All in all, I left the stadium realising I had picked up on essential skills.

Blog7 | ACE - Last minute preparation.
I figured out that there was a powerpoint which needed to be presented as part of an activity. Luckily for me, I chose what animated film was my favourite (Into the Spider-Verse) and I made a powerpoint on why it's my favourite.
While we’re here, let’s watch the trailer one more time and appreciate the film.

Blog6 | Design Sprint - Final day!
We were one of the only groups that made it to the last day of the week so I personally would like to applaud us for our efforts. Our idea was beaten by another group because ours was too unprofessional for a bank. The journey was an interesting one but I can't help but feel robbed of the final result. I do truly believe our idea was the best however I am not the judge.
