My headcanon is that this colour swapped version of Takua we see in Quest for the Toa is actually his canonical appearance for the 1000 years between getting out of the Matoran Sphere and crash landing into Ta-Wahi beach after summoning the Toa Mata.

Basically I think his Av-Matoran colour changing abilities got scrambled in the Matoran Sphere mind wipe, but given he had no memories of even having that ability he didn't know how to change back.

Then they got scrambled again from the mind wipe of his impact to his more familiar colours. Both times he was just lucky that he kept with Ta-Matoran colour schemes.

Mask Monday surprise!

We told this dude to mind the Tarakava, did they listen? Nope. One sucker punch straight to the face and that mask is never looking good again.

Still connects perfectly, though!

The mask fell out of a box i was moving. Lab reconstruction continues, and I'm hoping to have a team help me install the new climate control materials sometime next week. Which unfortunately means no updates still for a while.

Made an edit to spread the good news! Some awesome Fan made bionicle animations dropped this week! One is an animated short, the other 2 are trailers. (Yes, i know the Mangai project trailer is a year old, but the news about its premiere first episode coming out next week was announced this week, so i included it)

I’m super excited for the fan made bionicle animations coming out, nature (and the bionicle fandom) is healing.

Y'know, looking back on it, it's cool how we started to get some background character info on Ahkmou from the very beginning. When he first appears in MNOG, we don't know his name, or why he's allied with Makuta, just that he's a fast-talking, silver-tongued salesman who seems like he could sell anyone anything. Heck, the only reason he doesn't sell the player anything is because we're playing as Takua, who of course has no money, likely for good reason.

But we also know one other thing. He's a master carver.

It's odd. Ahkmou's backstory as one of the most skilled and prominent carvers in Metru Nui doesn't come up for another three years, but that element of his character is there from the get-go when Epena gushes over the craftsmanship of the Comets. "Whoever carved them is truly a master!" he says. And that was Ahkmou. He carved those Kolhii balls, the best Kolhii balls ever made by all accounts, infection notwithstanding. He did that.

Don't mind me, I'm just over here clinging to my headcanon that Ahkmou's road to recovery will begin with him rediscovering his skill and passion for art.

the toa metru really are the characters of all time to me. weird old guys who give exposition dumps turn out to actually be a bunch of 20somethings who had to save everyone they knew from the apocalypse and then turned into old people and basically raised all their friends and peers who no longer remembered them AND way later arrived god’s favorite toa. and then they’re still around! they still talk to all the characters they know even when a bunch of them become toa. but they’re still silly and embarrassed about what happened to them when they were toa. when the order of mata nui decides to take over metru nui and lure the brotherhood there to fight them the turaga are like ABSOLUTELY NOT. so they lock them in the basement. artwork

It really was a pity the Velika As A Great Being arc wasn't finished, (or even properly started, arguably), because Bionicle never really got to explore its Matoran Universe characters as artificial beings having or acquiring personhood.

Almost every other story about robots, cyborgs or artificial beings plays with or explores what it is to be 'alive' or 'human'. But in the absence of organic sapient beings, it was never really a thing in Bionicle. The Matoran never questioned their status as being alive or being people, and even the Glatorian seemed to readily accept them as people upon first meeting them.

So it would have been fascinating to see them confronted with the possibility that they were not people, just convincing imitations of the real thing, according to Velika.
