I thought it'd be nice to do a weekly collection of some of the most interesting things I come across online, inspired by the newsletters a few creators I follow write. Fuck social media recommendation algorithms and shout out to being more intentional with the stuff we spend our time on etc etc...
First I'd like to recommend this amazing hour-long video on predatory software practices from the point of view of a digital artist, EndVertex. It takes you on a journey, it's gorgeously edited, it's not merely venting but takes a productive approach to the digital hellscape we live in. In the week since I watched it it's already blown up (deservedly)!
The second hour-long educational piece of art comes from J. Draper, who did a video on the suffragettes, thoroughly answering misinformed and bad-faith questions on the movement with incredible nuance and grace. The research! The costumes! The everything! I learned SO MUCH.
For something a little lighter, I've been enjoying watching two youtubers trying to navigate through japan on motorcycles with no phones, no maps, and very little japanese skills. It's actually pretty sweet watching Ludwig and Michael Reeves' interactions with the locals as they try to figure out where they are and where they're going.
Cool website time! Go explore this virtual fictional monastery of St. Blamensir on neocities, created by @blamensir! Best experience on a big screen. Go forth.
And for last: I've been seeing a lot of talk about Wuthering Heights due to the upcoming film adaptation. Thought I might actually want to read the book, and so I'd like to remind everyone else as well about Project Gutenberg, which makes public domain books easily available on the web or downloadable in many other forms. Here's Wuthering Heights.
P.S. I decided to post this on a whole new sideblog, so that I can encourage people to use RSS. You can find any blog's RSS feed from [username].tumblr.com/rss!
