A1 Portfolio

Entry 1: In my first week I found out that this year will be stricter with due dates, and expectations with work compared to my diploma last year. with my past experience last year I had the luxury of knowing a lot of people already in this class who did the diploma with me last year. I also knew a few more from the alumni event in January so I didn’t feel out of place this year. I decided to try harder this year and not fall behind in assignments along with pushing for higher marks. My lecturers seem helpful and able to teach me which hopefully will help me in assignments. I am looking forward to a lot of the assignments being group presentations rather than essays which may help lighten the workload with less writing to complete. I am looking forward to hopefully starting a podcast or something with friends with the introduction of the podcast studio we were given and it seems like a quality podcast room. Overall I am looking forward to the next 3 years of completing this course and eventually getting a job in the industry.

Entry 2:

I felt like my skills were recognized and utilized by the team enough but weren’t recognized a heap by my team possibly because I joined the group late and just did what was required as did everyone else

I knew my role and responsibilities for the project was to complete my body report with high quality. I also knew I had to use correct and appropriate academic article to the body report.

I thought the participation and contribution form the team was pretty evenly distributed with Joanne, Liam and myself each writing a body report while Ethan wrote and introduction and conclusion as well as the recommendations. I am satisfied that we each completed our part of the assignment well before the due date and had it submitted on time. I feel like we could of communicated better outside of class time though. Instead of what we did we could of created a group chat with the 4 of us so we knew when to meet up for study for example. I know other groups did this which may of helped them get a higher quality mark compared to ours. Although the rest of the group had done their section of the assignment well before the due date I didn’t do it until only a couple of days before it was done which caused a bit of stress among the rest of the group. Luckily I did get it done in time so we were able to submit and get a good mark.

As written above the communication could have been better within the team outside of class with a groupchat but during class we all worked well together and were organised. I felt comfortable asking for help from team members as I did at times.

Entry 3:

Through the first 2 months I have done by best to self manage and plan for assignments. I have been able to be resilient and push through things to finish assignments on time along with our company ‘swerve media’ where I have also been writing articles and editing podcasts. I have been able to complete good work on the essays we have done which I hope I get high marks for, pushing for high distinctions. Although I do need to do better in preparing for assignments and planning so I’m not doing them last minute or even worse overdue. I still have to make sure I don’t fail any assignments which luckily I haven’t done yet but I’ve got close a couple of times.

In the next few weeks with plenty of assignments due I may need to take a step back from writing for swerve media or maybe just write some articles but not as many so I can focus on assignments and complete them with high quality. To complete said assignments I can also not do as many recreational activities like going out and going to live sport to spend more time studying instead.

Feedback

Entry 4: After our temporary one week break we got back into the thick of things at uni with plenty of assignments due in the last month of semester. Previously I was working hard on ‘swerve media’ but due to the upcoming assignments we have lost access to the studio but this could come in handy in the near future so we can aim for higher results in our assignments and have less stress of extra curricular activities. As there is a number of assignments I am going to need to fix my study habits so I can continue to complete this course to a reasonably high quality.

Throughtout the last two weeks we completed assignments such as A2 for Media Industry, A3 for Sports in Australia and A2  for Sports PR and A3 for Academic and Professional Communications. I worked hard on all of these yet unfortunately failed the two that I have got results for and am yet to get results for Media Industry and Sports PR. I am quite confident on one of them but it makes me know that I have to try harder on future assignments

Here is my Feedback for A3 for Simone’s class and as you can see it is not good enough for me as I need to get better than this.

Entry 5

In these last two weeks of semester we had all the assignments completed except all the group assignments which we had for each class. We focused exclusively on these assignments and attempted to work well as a group together for all of the assignments. For the Academic and Professional Communications class we were put into random groups and I was put with Adem and Chinari as we did a presentation of the Novak Djokovic and Tony Jones saga of the 2025 Australian Open. Also for the Sports PR assignment we did a PR campaign of the World Triathlon Championships which I did with Malachy, Seba and Adem again. I don’t think we spent as much time as we should of on this assignment but we still did enough. For our Sports in Australia class we had a class at RSEA Park (Moorabbin Oval, home of St Kilda Football Club) to announce a new partnership with Holmesglen and the St Kilda Football Club and during this we focused on completing a grant assessment for a local sports club. Christian and I completed a grant assessment for the Strathmore Cricket Club as that is the club Christian plays for and I will play for in the summer. Finally for our media industry class we have a group assignment on the history of media coverage in the NRL. I was put with Christian, Hugh and Ethan for this assignment as we as aim for a good score on all of these assignments

Overall working in a team together was important to completing the assignment to a good quality as Tarricone & Luca (2002) states that in “which teamwork was an essential ingredient and immersed in an authentic context.”

Entry 6

Finally in the last two weeks we completed all of our final assignments for the semester by presenting our presentations for the Academic and Professional Communication Class, Sports PR class and the Media Industry class. I personally think we probably did not get very high marks for these assignments but we did enough to get a pass or a credit. For these assignments I thought my group worked well for most of them. In the academic class myself, Adem and Chinari all completed the required work and presented well. In my Sports PR Presentation though myself and Malachy carried the majority of the load for the assignment with Adem and Seba doing very little and what they did do was left until the last minute. Finally for the Media Industry assignment our entire group all did the required work well before the due date.

In our Sports in Australia class Christian and I completed our Grant assignment in time and hopefully will get a got result. Also for our Sports in Australia class we toured the MCG and had a talk with an Olympian.

In general over the last few weeks of semester my study habits changed for the better and us stopping ‘Swerve Media’ was helpful for our studies. Next semester I just have to focus on my studies more and aim for high results every time.
