Started doing baby binds and now I’m hooked!!

I’ve been tempted to try book binding for a while and I felt so intimidated by it till I did a short workshop at a local university and realized I could do one shots in booklet form… that was two weeks ago and I’ve already made 10 😅

I love this series (and sexting) so much!

I watched some tutorials but I tend to charge forward and learn as I go but my process so far has been to typeset in word, print on regular paper that I already had on hand. Then I separate into signatures (usually 2), sew, sew them together and then glue the spine. Then once the glue has mostly set I glue the cover on! I’ve been making the covers out of cardstock.

They’re not perfect but I’m having fun and excited to gift them to my friends! 💕

!! they're still up! i locked them all so they're only accessible for archive users due to the recent AI data scrape of ao3 [link to reddit post here]. you'll be able to see them if you're logged in (and if you don't have an account yet, get on that <3)

in general, i recommend creating an account as a lot of people are locking fics because of the same reason.

Hey, I’m not much of a tumblr person or a fanfic person, so forgive me if this is a dumb way to reach you. But reading IYLO this week and seeing Steve getting away from his parents, learning to be himself… made me realize for the first time how much I think that’s what I need? I’ve been struggling and this was like the first breath of air in a long long time. Literally life changing stuff. Just thought you’d maybe like to know how much of an impact you’ve had on a stranger.

As a smaller life change in the meantime, I’ve been thinking it might be a good idea to get back in touch with my creativity and write some fanfiction of my own? But I don’t even know where to begin haha. Are there online communities you would recommend?

hello! not a dumb way to reach me at all. i'm really happy that the fic could spark some feelings like that. it's scary stuff! but i'm excited for you. not saying you need to uproot and leave, but i find that having some distance between you and people who've known you your whole life can be good. helps you grow.

as for writing - go for it! it's a different kind of scary but really, just start writing. it's painful at first (or it was for me anyway) and it gets easier. and then gets painful again. easier with practice!

for online communities, i guess it depends if you're looking for a writing focus, or more of a fandom focus. some writing groups aren't super open to fanfiction (it depends on the angle of the group in my experience). but there are discord groups for just about anything, and if you're looking for fandom discords, i would look through tumblr (or twitter - don't join fandom twitter, but people advertise their discord groups there and you can probably find some with open invites). i would specifically seek out fandom discords that are explicitly supportive of fanfic writers with dedicated channels.

tumblr is also solid. if you're looking for fandom or writing friends, start interacting with and following other people with similar interests and eventually, share some of your writing. it's vulnerable but it's another one of those 'good pain' type experiences 💙

Sitting at work today thinking about IYLO, about the intimacy that was Eddie cutting Steve's hair, Steve hugging Eddie in the hospital parking lot, Eddie giving Steve the drawing of him, Steve finally asking for what he (thinks he) wants.
