AITA for trying to motivate my classmates after a funeral?

I (17F) am a professional makeup artist. Recently, I was invited to attend an academy made for people like me. I took this offer with happiness in hopes of meeting new friends. Once I got there, we all introduced ourselves to each other. I think I got along with everyone pretty well.

A few days later, my roommate (18F) was suspended for being disrespectful to a classmate (22M) of ours who passed away. Because of her suspension and my classmate's death, there has been a lot of arguments. Despite that, the whole class did show up to his funeral that was held not long after all of this happened.

Since this was a difficult situation for all of us, I decided that after the funeral, I'd give a speech telling everyone that they would've wanted us to adapt. I told them we should continue his legacy and that I wouldn't let what happened to him happen to anyone else here.

I expected positive reactions, but instead, I was told to take things more seriously and that it wasn't the time for these kind of childish speeches. One of my classmates (18M) even informed me that it pissed him off. They all went back to their dorms afterwards.
