We didn't have a Tommy and Grace reunion but I'm going to put them together haha.

What a disappointment. I'm still hopeful for the movie.

Well, if we accept SK's statement that Tommy doesn't deserve to be happily married to Grace because of the bad things he's done, then there is an argument that Tommy needs to be married to Lizzie because that is his punishment.

I just hate that argument because it reduces both Grace and Lizzie to 2D props in Tommy's story rather than treating them as 3D characters with their own stories.

I completely agree with you. And that's what bothers real fans of the show, we want to see the women with their own stories, because they're interesting.

And not reduced to, "oh look, she's dead so Tommy can be miserable" , "oh look she's the bitter wife, who only thinks about Tommy not loving her, and complains all the time, so Tommy can be miserable".

But unfortunately it is Steven Knight's story and he wanted it that way. Even the actor who plays John quit the show precisely because of this, he said this is Cillian Murphy's show and it's true. John didn't have any development so he decided to leave, and be in other shows, where his character could grow.

I often read about how Tommy manipulated Lizzie in this S1 Car scene. As much as I love Lizzie, I think she is human and can make mistakes. She doesn’t need to be justified as a good or naive woman who fell in a trap here. Tommy truly put her to test in this one and she made her independent choice.

This scene parallels with a scene from previous episode where Tommy is in the car with Kimber’s woman; had his permission to have her. He could have charmed and seduced the woman but he doesn’t, his heart and mind are consumed with Grace. His feelings for her reached the surface and he couldn’t even pretend to be interested in another woman. He felt something so deep for Grace that he rushes to get her back even if it endangered his deal. I think Tommy expected honesty from Lizzie too. If she truly fell for his brother, her feelings for him would have been stronger than any amount of cash. That is why he got upset past is not the past He believes in actions and not words. On Lizzie’s part, I don’t think she loved John, he was just a means to get out of her current situation. That is why she got swayed by the money.

I have to mention my most fav chapter is the Tommy’s POV chapter. When i started reading the novel, somewhere i had an inkling that there was something more going on in Tommy’s mind. It cannot just be an accident that he happened to kidnap the wife of his betrayer and she happens to be this beautiful lady!!! It was an awesome reveal that he had seen her, knew about her and couldn’t resist to get to know her and intentionally planned it all. With Tommy, there are no accidents!!!
