Final Portfolio
The portfolio came up really nice and I didn't put that many descriptions in the slides and let the pictures talks, this portfolio got me an offer. I love the layout, but I will put my works in for a more advanced portfolio rather than just these few.

UCAS Personal Statement Complete
Now more than ever, Gaming technology is rapidly developing, teenagers have easier access to games. Gaming has been an important part in my teenage years, ever since I discovered my interests towards animation and digital drawing, especially towards the game art industry became the major career that I am targeting.
I have more than enough experiences in 3D modelling, animating with Blender, and most Adobe Creative Collections in the course for Lv3 Ext Diploma in Graphic Design, which I am currently studying. I am confident that by the time I finish the course, I will have sufficient knowledge and skills to take part in different tasks and projects at good quality. Before taking this course, I discovered my talent and interest in digital design and 3D modelling by watching Youtube tutorials for Blender, while I was studying science-related A-level subjects. I was able to get my hands on sorts of different techniques in digital art with fewer time spent than others in terms of self-learning, and more on developing and enhancing my skills. I can feel a stronger connection towards this digital art industry than any other careers that I thought I would be, with my talent giving me a great sense of achievement.
During my time creating game content and animations, I have self-taught lots of the digital drawing techniques on different media, for instance, Blender and Clip Studio, by watching tutorials and exploring techniques on the internet. At first, I found out the skills required are very technical and the specific skill level range is huge for both 2D and 3D arts; In the beginning, it took me a while to know about making meshes and there were lots of mistakes with the vertices and the polys, and start drawing from fine arts to digital art are a step up for everything. But after more practice and trials, I started building up more passion and confidence when I made fewer mistakes compared to that in the beginning.
Being able to make good judgement and decision are the key aspect of this industry, I have taken part in different work experiences, for example, in a company program on Woman's Rights, I have given lots of visual ideas in our team for redesigning the format of visualising the book into a more pleasing animated result and the clients from the company adored it. I was also recommended to a new Chinese company by a friend from Canada to redesign their logo by using Illustrator and Photoshop. I feel excited whenever my clients praise my ideas, even though the restrictive guidelines make the job more challenging, it took me more than 2 weeks to produce a perfect result for my client, but I'm still enjoying the progress of communicating with them and the process while doing the work.
Last year my Diploma course gave me a good shot at being a group leader of my idea for my horror-themed group project called Morkit. The leadership experience gives a better understanding of how crucial group work management is, especially when it involves working in a busy industry. I learnt how to study my team's weaknesses and strengths and take advantage of different teammate's skills so they can work in a zone where they are capable of producing the best piece and reduce the amount of stress from either my teammates and I.
In the future, I aspire to be Senior Game Artist for games companies like Capcom, Mihoyo or Riot Games. I'm well organised with the work I have been doing, I have a positive and hard-working attitude to work and also to motivate other people in their work, while helping them with ideas or with the skills they need. I am looking forward to expanding my area of skills with both quality and quantity of new skills while working on more projects and companies. I believe my strong work ethic and dedication to working and helping others in a team will make me a strong candidate, especially when teamwork and passion is such a crucial value in the animation and game art industry.

Feedback from Elli:
You need to explain your technical skills further, as you focus too much on the 3D modelling. Since you are applying for game art and animation you should talk about skills related to these. I am not sure why you want to study this yet. You have a lot of words that don’t say a lot. Some things are repeated. The person reading this needs to get a sense of who you are, I don’t get that yet. Remember, you are selling yourself to the Uni, you should be using very positive language.

Final Evaluation
This project gave us a brand new experience for us that we are able to design a business for our studio culture named “Plan Creative”. This experience gave me an opportunity to explore how to design and cope with clients’ requirements and expectations, in the point of view of a company or studio.
Comparing to the previous group projects that I had participated in, this time instead of being in a point of view of a game artist or animator, I act as a role of a manager in a company that I have to consider not only suit the preference of the audiences, but also to consider the company interest, clients’ expectations, the company’s system and ways of promoting the company effectively.
When we were deciding on the theme of the company, my teammates and I came up with a common interest of everyone, such that we were encouraged to work along and give interesting ideas about how to present this studio to the others in a way that we can catch the others’ eyeballs. For instance, we came up with ideas that we could promote our studio culture with mockups, in which we have bags, business cards, cappuccino cups, billboards… These are common advertising skills that a company would use to promote themselves, and in my opinion, this idea is absolutely thrilling. I felt as if I was really running a company when I was designing these mockups.
However, the process of creating a company and mockups for promotion wasn’t the most challenging. The most challenging part was to deciding the studio’s company system, ethic, environmental impacts, and the difficulties of designing it from sketch is a very challenging process. It requires careful consideration of many factors, such as the company’s mission, values, and goals, as well as its impact on the environment. Additionally, it requires a great deal of research and analysis to ensure that the system is efficient and effective.
At the stage where we start researching for information and to build up a strong concept about the studio culture for designing the system from scratch, it is important to consider the various elements of the system and how they interact with each other. It is also important to consider the potential for growth within the system and to ensure that it is flexible enough to accommodate changes as the business evolves. Additionally, it is important to consider the potential for scalability, as the system may need to be expanded as the business grows.
Additionally, it is important to consider the potential for sustainability and how the system can be implemented in such a way that it is not only effective but also environmentally friendly. This requires extensive research into the environmental impacts of the system, as well as careful consideration of the potential for energy efficiency.
Finally, after all the research of understanding what basic studios require and concerns about, then we gathered up everyone’s strengths, weaknesses and ideas in the team and got the final decision of making a computer cafe only for artists named “Plan Creative”.
A first we didn’t expect the research concepts and ideas to take weeks to actually understand how studio culture works and we were quite behind the process than expected, however thanks to the amount of information we gathered, the process while creating the final idea for our studio culture was faster than the other groups.
Even though the amount of information we got helped our group to create the final concept of the studio, the process where our group start creating the presentation and the details for the Plan Creative, I can say that it was a challenging but a rewarding experience. We had to consider a lot of different detailed factors while designing the cafe, including the target audience, the type of services they would offer, and the overall atmosphere of the cafe, all explained in the presentation.
The biggest difficulty while making the presentation, we faced as a group was finding an effective way to present our ideas. We had to decide the best way to communicate and showcase our concept by just presenting it in slides and we had to make sure our design was visually appealing too. We also had to consider an appropriate system, the budget and ethics for the cafe and how to make sure it was safe, cost-effective and reasonable for the customers.
We had to work together and make compromises in order to come up with a design that we all felt comfortable with. Through the process, we developed our communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving skills. I'm glad that we were able to create a presentation that will help the readers to bring Plan Creative's vision to life by just showcasing it.
In this project we had a great opportunity to work with a real client and this experience gave me a feeling of acting as an actual designer working in a studio.
In this opportunity, first of all, we had to understand the client’s needs and expectations and then create a design that meets their requirements. I had to come up with a design that appealed to their target audience, which was mainly students. I also had to make sure that the design was visually appealing and that it would be easy to read.
After the initial design was done, we worked on the content. I had to make sure that the content was relevant, informative, and engaging. I also had to make sure that I did not include any errors or typos in the content during creating.
Once the content was finalized, I worked on the layout. I had to make sure that the layout is visually pleasing and that it is easy to navigate for all designs in our group. I also had to make sure that the leaflet was able to fit in the given space.
Eventhough how restricted the content and resources given by the client, our group successfully made a final leaflet design that match every requirement and good quality in the end.
Overall, to sum up our experience making a presentation for our studio “Plan Creative” was a great learning experience. We used InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to create the visuals for promoting our presentation. We also had to further develop our idea of what our studio does and how to effectively communicate that to our audience. It was great to be able to collaborate with a real client and work together on the project and figure out the best ways to present our ideas. We learned new skills and honed our existing skills, which will be invaluable in the future and working together to create this presentation was a great experience, and we can confidently say that we have a better understanding of how to effectively communicate our ideas to an audience through the project.

Completed Project Proposal

Name: Tong Ka Chi
Project Title: Studio Culture
Rationale:
In this project, our group will be learning new skills such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop can be beneficial to our group project in many ways.
For example, these applications can help us create a visually appealing presentation that accurately conveys the information we are researching about Studio Culture. InDesign can be used to create layouts that are professional and organized. Illustrator can be used to create vector graphics, and Photoshop can be used to edit images and create photo composites.
By using these applications, we can make a presentation that will effectively communicate our thoughts on Studio Culture.
Project Concept:
In order to ensure a successful outcome for the presentation in our group project for our studio culture, it will be based on group work management and communication. We will strive to create an environment where every group member is respected and their ideas and contributions are valued. We will strive to promote an atmosphere of creativity and innovation, while also providing structure and direction to ensure the project is completed in a timely manner.
We will divide the work into manageable tasks and assign each task to the most suitable person. We will ensure that everyone has the necessary materials and resources available to complete their tasks. We will use our skills in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other creative software to create visuals for the presentation. We will also use our research skills to collect information about Plan Creative to ensure the presentation is as accurate and up-to-date as possible.
Throughout the project, we will promote transparency and open communication. We will encourage team members to share ideas and insights, as well as work together to overcome any challenges that may arise. We will also strive to maintain a professional and respectful attitude toward one another, as well as our real clients.
Finally, we will use any extra time to create additional materials to promote the studio. This could include creating promotional pieces such as cappuccino cups, billboards, bags and more.
Evaluation:
In this group project, we will gain valuable experience in working with a real client and will be able to apply the skills we had learned in this project for future. This project will also help us to develop our designs and presentation skills and through this experience, we will be able to gain an understanding of how a studio works and how to create an effective and informative presentation as well as how to use visuals and other media for promoting our content.

Art Reviews with own Research
Summarization of The Only Studio:
Only Studio is an impressive creative studio that has consistently delivered on its attractive wide text and font design in a big scale of interesting points of view. Their work is characterized by a unique combination of angles, scales, typography and location techniques, resulting in eye-catching visuals and creative designs that stand out from the crowd in the public.
The attention to this unique style is noticeable in all of their projects, while they are also known for their ability to effectively communicate their ideas across multiple methods. They have been hailed for their ability to think outside the box and push the boundaries of creativity with their unique layout, styles and scales outside.
My Review of Only Studio work:
I like how their art style is modern, dynamic, and creative. They use bold colours and stylish graphics to create visually stunning pieces. They have a great eye for detail and make sure everything looks perfect. I particularly like the way they use typography to create interesting and eye-catching visuals.
I also appreciate their attention to detail when it comes to technology. They make sure everything works flawlessly and that everything is optimized for maximum performance. They also use the latest technologies to ensure their work is up-to-date and looks great.
Overall, Only Studio is a great digital design studio. Their work is amazing, their art style is unique, and they use the latest technologies. The only thing I'd like to see improved is their communication.
Summarization of Adrain Shaughnessy:
Adrian Shaughnessy is an internationally renowned graphic designer, creative director, and author based in London. He founded the design studio ShaughnessyWorks in 1995 and has been successfully producing graphic design solutions for clients ever since.
ShaughnessyWorks has created award-winning work for clients in the music, fashion, publishing and advertising industries. Adrian Shaughnessy's design style is characterized by a modernist sensibility that is both bold and sophisticated. He employs a variety of bold typographic solutions, often playing with scale and contrast to create impact.
His work is often balanced with a sense of restraint, allowing it to be both visually arresting and legible. He also has a strong appreciation for the fundamentals of graphic design and uses classic grid structures and geometric shapes in his work.
The purpose of Shaughnessy's artwork is to communicate ideas and information in an engaging and compelling way.
His work has been used to create identities and brands, as well as to promote products and services. He has also been commissioned to produce artwork for books, editorial publications, and special projects.
My Review of Adrain Shaughnessy's work:

I particularly like his use of collage, which he often combines with traditional graphic design elements to create something totally unique. His work has a strong sense of movement and energy, which I find very appealing.
One of my favorite pieces of his is the book cover he designed for the book “How to be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul”. The cover is a great example of his experimental style. It uses a combination of photographs, illustrations and typography to create a bold and eye-catching design.
One of the things I don’t like about his work is that it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. His use of colour and imagery can be a bit overwhelming, making it difficult to focus on any one element. Also, some of his work can appear a bit too busy, making it difficult to read.

Lino Cutting process and outcome

through the technical aspects of the lino and create multiple pieces that I am like.
I enjoyed the process while making the lino art and I was surprised at how quickly I was able to pick up the techniques and complete the Plan Creative Lino after the Lino for the individual project.
Overall, I am pleased with the outcome and I look forward to creating more lino art in the future.

Flag for Studio Culture

Creating a flag mock-up for Plan Creative was a great way to practice my design skills. I enjoyed just using only black and white and finding ways to make it visually interesting and meaningful.
Working with basic shapes and minimal colours was a great way to practice my understanding of design principles such as contrast and balance.
The process of creating the flag also gave me a chance to experiment with different approaches and find the best solution. Overall, it was a great experience creating it and I am satisfied with the end result.

Live Brief BILA Law (Studio Culture: Notes, initial ideas, Sketches, Mockups, Meeting notes, Feedback from client, corrections to design, Final outcome)
Notes while Presentation:

Layout Mock-ups:

The First Outcome of the Leaflet:

Review from Client:

After Rework:

After the presentation, we had noted all the keypoints and requirements for the Bila Project, we first sketch up every idea that come to mind to pick the best ideas for the leaflet.
After having the final decision on the ideas we started creating a mock-up for all pages, but I didn't like the process because the amount of mock ups we did in our group aren't enough to give out the best result, to avoid wasting time on relaying out it, we should have more effort on creating a bigger range of mocks up to suit the BILA leafet.
Since we have a restricted amount of colour that can be used, in our first leaflet design we have used pictures of the company rather than just blanking in the background which they like it, however the layouts are too crowded and some layouts weren't balanced to each other so after correcting the layout, spacing and the text itself, the leaflet look fresher and easier to read.
After this experience working with a company we have learnt not to get restricted by their requirements, to keep the layout cleaner and most importantly the lack amount of layout ideas at the start of the project.

Safe working Practises workshop (research safe working practises, what SWP will you use, reflect)
Safety while working with computer:
When sitting in your desk chair, your spine should be in an upright position. Avoid slouching down into your chair or leaning forward onto the desk, as this can cause strains, aches and pains. Your lower back must be supported by a chair or a cushion so that sitting upright doesn’t feel uncomfortable or unnatural.
To help keep your back free of strain:
Stand up and walk around every hour or so, so that you’re not sat in the same position all day.
Slowly lean your torso over to one side of the chair and then the other to stretch your sides and spine.
Stand up and put your hands together, elbows out, then slowly twist to the left and then to the right.
______________________________________________________________
Also, keep your neck straight as much as possible. Your eyes should be level with the top of your monitor. Adjust the tilt and height of your screen or your chair if you need to and, if you have a laptop, you should use a stand to raise it up. If you ever have to angle your head upwards or downwards to see the screen, then tension can build up in your neck and cause headaches and fatigue.
Reduce tension by regularly moving your neck and shoulders:
Sit up straight and slowly tilt your head down to one shoulder and then to the other to stretch your neck.
Move your shoulders around in small circles, first in one direction and then the other.
Slowly bring your chin down to your chest, hold for 3 seconds, and then release.
______________________________________________________________
Safety while working with Lazer cutting:
1. Never Leave Your Laser Unattended When Firing
The tendency of new operators is to sometimes leave the machine while the job runs. This should be an obvious fire safety risk. Even though the better machines are made with metal cases (plastic should be avoided), the sustained heat of a laser hitting the case bottom can damage the exterior case, fry electronic components and even start a fire.
2. Never Cut Material with Unknown Properties
The second safety tip for laser cutters focuses on materials. Most people want a laser cutter machine for wood, while others know some machines, like the MC-Series 1kW Fiber laser cutter, can also cut metal.
3. Always Keep A Clean Workshop
Laser cutting safety and cleanliness go together in minimizing injury risks. Most people are not aware that small particles of cut materials (such as sawdust) in the air can ignite and cause explosions.
4. Be Informed
In all cases, it is the responsibility of the operator to understand how to safely use a laser cutter and engraver before turning it on.
______________________________________________________________
Safety while working with Lino Cutting:
Lino Cutting:
Never cut towards yourself cut outwards and away from you.
Cut on a cutting block.
Keep your non cutting hand out the way of the area you are cutting round.
Throw all off-cut strips in the bin at the end and leave your area tidy.
Lino Printing:
Wear an Apron to protect your clothes and either gloves or barrier cream on your hands to protect your skin.
Clean equipment with soap and water and only pack away when dry and ink free.
If you get ink on your clothes or skin wash it off with warm soapy water.
If you get the ink on the work surface wash it down with soapy water and dry it with a paper towel to prevent the ink from transferring onto other people's work or skin.
______________________________________________________________
Reflect:
While working a long period on computer, I must take rest between a settled amount of time I must either walk around or lie down at comfortable places, I must make sure the brightness and the volume while working must be at a safe percentage. I also ensured how I sit while working is comfortable.
While working on the lino again, I ensured the cutter doesn't face toward any dangerous directions and I used a stable amount of strength while cutting the lino and everything went as predicted.
While laser printing I asked for professionals to help me print the product and I also ensure the material is suitable for print. Eventhough I understand how it works, I will still find professionals to either do for me or keep an eye on me while printing.

Planning your time Workshop (research time management techniques, what do you use, reflect)
The ability to manage your time effectively is important. Good time management leads to improved efficiency and productivity, less stress, and more success in life and the benefits of managing time effectively are:
1. Stress relief
Making and following a task schedule reduces anxiety. As you check off items on your “to-do” list, you can see that you are making tangible progress. This helps you avoid feeling stressed out with worry about whether you’re getting things done.
2. More time
Good time management gives you extra time to spend in your daily life. People who can time-manage effectively enjoy having more time to spend on hobbies or other personal pursuits.
3. More opportunities
Managing time well leads to more opportunities and less time wasted on trivial activities. Good time management skills are key qualities that employers look for. The ability to prioritize and schedule work is extremely desirable for any organization.
4. Ability to realize goals
Individuals who practice good time management are able to better achieve goals and objectives, and do so in a shorter length of time.
After the benefits of why having good management, the ways of having time management effectively is to:
1. Set goals correctly
Set goals that are achievable and measurable. Use the SMART method when setting goals. In essence, make sure the goals you set are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.
2. Prioritize wisely
Prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency. For example, look at your daily tasks and determine which are:
Important and urgent: Do these tasks right away.
Important but not urgent: Decide when to do these tasks.
Urgent but not important: Delegate these tasks if possible.
Not urgent and not important: Set these aside to do later.
3. Set a time limit to complete a task
Setting time constraints for completing tasks helps you be more focused and efficient. Making the small extra effort to decide how much time you need to allot for each task can also help you recognize potential problems before they arise. That way you can make plans for dealing with them.
4. Take a break between tasks
When doing a lot of tasks without a break, it is harder to stay focused and motivated. Allow some downtime between tasks to clear your head and refresh yourself. Consider grabbing a brief nap, going for a short walk, or meditating.
5. Organize yourself
Utilize your calendar for more long-term time management. Write down the deadlines for projects, or for tasks that are part of completing the overall project. Think about which days might be best to dedicate to specific tasks.
6. Remove non-essential tasks/activities
It is important to remove excess activities or tasks. Determine what is significant and what deserves your time. Removing non-essential tasks/activities frees up more of your time to be spent on genuinely important things.
7. Plan ahead
Make sure you start every day with a clear idea of what you need to do – what needs to get done THAT DAY. Consider making it a habit to, at the end of each workday, go ahead and write out your “to-do” list for the next workday. That way you can hit the ground running the next morning.
______________________________________________________________
Reflect:
In the group project, our group failed at keeping tasks on track in the last few weeks, a few unexpected tasks came up and we didn't finish the task we planned for a few days. Luckily our team get back in shape after multiple struggles.
In the beginning, we finished the task within time limit and organized well at the start, but we failed to plan ahead cause the project idea isn't settled yet.
So to make sure won't happen again, we will be having the concept as soon as possible but not still changing when we already have the time plan settled.
We also failed to prioritize tasks which is one of the biggest reasons why we lost track in the end, to avoid it happening again we must communicate more and ensure every important task must be done before the time limit.

Studio Manifesto , Ethos, Ethics

Ethos:
Ethos Our studio is a safe space for every artist. Without discrimination, we let everyone in to demonstrate their impressive talents and make use of their skills to the maximum.
We believe that ones circumstances should not deny access to creativity, therefore our studio supplies all facilities so that you can truly flourish in your abilities and express yourself beyond limits.
We allow artists to show off their work in our gallery, as a simple way to display their creations and gain publicity. Our respective environment means everyone tolerates each other and nobody abuses any equipment or creates chaos. We are a place of happiness and chances.
Short version: We are a safe, happy and respectful space for artists to access and express their creative talents.
Ethics:
In our studio, a lot of things can go wrong. This is because it is a free space where anything can be created.
As a whole, we expect our clients that are using the space to act responsibly but it’s very likely that accidents can happen. Such as the equipment that is used is not handled responsibly.
Which could lead to someone getting seriously injured. We want people to respect the area as if it’s their own. Certain websites will be blocked so that people will mainly focus on creating digital art.
We will make sure our anti-virus software is installed on every computer to prevent people from making viruses on the computer. We will make sure they have a 5-hour limit on each computer to prevent the area from becoming too busy and packed.
Also, people will be able to book slots to come in and use the computers to prevent people from becoming frustrated when the computers are packed. Have to make sure that the art we promote is ethical because it could reflect a bad brand image on our company.
