anyways, here's what i imagined effie used throughout the years as she fixed haymitch's clothing and how they found their way to each other during/after the revolution. i think everyone deserves to find hapiness again :))

can we address the connection between the importance of tokens in Haymitch’s life and how he always linked them with the people he loved, and the fact Effie’s surname is Trinket? Or we had enough?

I truly believe after reading SOTR Effie was pretending to be all capitol throughout her time as an escort in the games.

After her dialogue with Haymitch, apologising for how he was being treated and KNOWING how wrong it was. But of course not being able to do anything about it for fear of her family being hurt, especially her sister.

I like to think Haymitch would have known about this as well. But of course only offering comfort behind closed doors so neither of them would be hurt.

a big part of the reason why effie shielded herself behind a character was probably to protect proserpina too.

and in the end, prosie probably died during the war anyway. just like prim did.

and it was haymitch's turn to comfort both katniss and effie through the same pain he felt when he was only 16.

2 months ago most of us thought Haymitch and Effie were enemies to lovers

And then we found out in reality they were most likely pretending to dislike each other for the cameras (The bickering is obviously foreplay)

I imagine at least one time throughout the 25 years Effie has personally had to clean Haymitch up.

He is drunk, has vomited all over himself and she has to help him in the shower. As she is about to undress him she thinks of her collouges and friends that has paid for the "company" of other victors.

hot take, but Effie never had a real chance to leave Twelve. Her being picked as District Twelve’s Escort and never managing to move up for a better District was rigged by Plutarch, in name of the Revolution and the prospect of her moving up was never real

Stay with me. When Plutarch told Haymitch about Effie assuming Drusilla’s position during his Victory tour, he said it as if her employment had been more of an agreement between him and the Gamemakers than a decision she’d the chance to make by herself

“Anyway, I pitched Effie last-minute and they jumped on the idea. Especially since she brought the depraved uncle’s wardrobe with her.”

He could have said that “she had applied for the job” or that “the position was offered to her”. Instead he said that “HE pitched her”. Subtly implying that she’d no saying on the matter. He’d choosen her by hand and thrown her inside of this mess….and why?

Well, Haymitch’s was a essencial factor for whatever revolution they intended to achieve in the future. Although he failed miserably in his own attempt of breaking the Games, the constant fire he carried on his heart and the strategical habiliteis he still had would be needed if they truly planned in ever succed to overthrow the government. And Plutarch knew that they wouldn’t do it if Haymitch managed to kill himself during his mentor years (or drown his brain in enough alcohol to result in irreversible damage or clinical insanity)…Plutarch needed someone to keep him in line. To keep him grounded and alive. To watch out for his drinking and force him to never forget about the humanity he carried inside of himself…Plutarch needed someone kind and stubborn to keep constantly reminding him about who he truly was and why he should keep fighting —in her eyes, for their tributes. In Plutarch’s? for their little revolution

Effie Trinket was the last person who’d known him when he was still full of humanity and love. She was the gentle soul who first provided him the kind of understanding Plutarch knew would be needed to keep his revolutionary spirit intact. She wasn’t fully brainwashed and wouldn’t interfere if Haymitch ever did something suspicious and she was loyal enough to be quiet if she ever noticed something…Effie was not a rebel, but Plutarch used her as the perfect tool to keep his fallen Jabberjay still singing his tune.

I’m having heart palpitations yall, Effie knew everything. She played it so good and it’s safe to think she was doing it for much longer. So just thinking about baby Effie having to be very careful of not saying the wrong thing breaks my heart.

Literally every conversation she had with Haymitch in the beginning is like:

“I am so sorry, this is so fucked up, I hate it, none of you deserve this”

And then in the next sentence:

“BUT THE CAPITOL IS REALLY COOL, AND THE GAMES WOW I MEAN JUST WOW SUPER DUPER COOL”

Haymitch intentionally pushing the other Newcomers away so they wouldn’t be punished for his actions. Haymitch promising Beetee that he’d look after Ampert in the arena even though he had no chance of winning. Haymitch rearranging the limbs of the dead tributes so their families wouldn’t see their mangled bodies on camera. Haymitch only killing two tributes, both entirely in self defense. Haymitch wearing some of the Newcomers’s district tokens to honor them. Haymitch running away with Louella and then Lou Lou’s bodies so the Capitol wouldn’t immediately take them. Haymitch sharing the chocolate he’d been given by sponsors with Wellie and Silka.

Haymitch, in the midst of so much pain and trauma, remaining kind and reminding people of their humanity.
