Michael: His anger flared out of him again. He spoke without thinking. "What, do you want to? Because fine, if you want to go out with him, go out with him, but don't use it against me."

Vixey: "I want you to admit you want me to be your girlfriend."

Michael: The very idea of her on a date with Pas pissed him off for so many reasons he did not have the time to explain. "No, no--don't go on a date with him."

Vixey: "Give me a reason not to, then."

Michael: barely bit back his urge to groan on the phone. He nearly nearly let it past his lips but he knew Vixey would never talk to him again if he did. Which wasn't what he wanted--he did like her. He liked her loads. She was sexy and hilarious and liked being with him but--/girlfriend?/ "It is going somewhere! It's going in that direction, I just--look, you know me. I got practice every day and not much time to squeeze in a girlfriend--and that sounds /horrible/ doesn't it--it's not--i want to spend time with you, but if you become my girlfriend, then I'll keep going to practice and have to cancel on dates with you and then you'll get neglected and resentful toward me for picking football all the time and I'll feel suffocated and then we'll break up and never talk again and i really really don't want THAT to happen, because I like you, Vix. You're not /just/ a great lay you know or a fun date, you're--you're a mate of mine, you know? And all the girlfriends I've ever had in the past, it's just, when it's football season, it falls apart."

Vixey: "Michael that's really stupid. I already know you have football practice. It's not like I would expect you to cancel that because of me. I'm not insane. That sounds a lot like an excuse to me, and if you don't want to be my boyfriend, that's okay. You can keep flirting with Ro and maybe I'll go on a date with Pascal and everything will just be fine."

Michael: "Right, look, Vixey," he began and then right away he found his throat was a bit tighter. Here he was. Unsure of anything. "I thought we both liked what we were doing, yeah? Going out, having fun, you and me--I thought we both--we both agreed it was going good, right?"

Vixey: felt a little bad. She shouldn't have attacked him with this Pascal thing, but it was just so annoying that he wasn't asking her to be his girlfriend. He thought about him flirting with Ro and her fingers curled tighter around the phone. "Yeah, they are. At least I thought they were and then I see you flirting with that girl and that wasn't very fun for me. And then you turn around and spend the whole night with me basically never leaving my side and I just want to know which one it is. Do you want to be with me or not? Because I like you, but if you don't want me to be your girlfriend what am I even doing? All of the stuff we do, I like spending time with you, Michael, but it's supposed to go somewhere."

Michael: didn't know what he was going to say to Vixey or what he wanted. He felt attacked though--most definitely so. Attacked, ambushed, a bag thrown over his head and his hands tied. But he was going to Houdini his way out of it or something by the end of this, he sure as hell knew that. He waited for Vixey to pick up, scratching the back of his head impatiently.

Vixey: looked at the phone and waited for it to ring. When it did, she picked it up, feeling fully justified. It was about time he asked her to be his girlfriend, she thought. She was just helping it along. "Hello."
