Headcanons regarding the Beira-D's Structural Engineer: Miss Brendana Yanna Cariou!

- She is a big tea drinker: considering the impact of french tea culture upon Breton cuisine she prefers hot teas that are made from either flavoured or infused blends. Breakfast for her is Earl Grey with Lemon, Lunch is a cup of Prince of Wales tea with Lemon and some sugar.

- I'd like to thank @volatile95 for particularly reinforcing this next headcanon with the art made by a request i submitted but with that said i'm expanding it. Brendana does her best to help the crew out equally but Roy is a special case considering he is a diabetic and considering her youngest brother - Jakez is a diabetic too, so she understands the importance of managing his glucose which is why it's not uncommon for her to bring him some fresh fruits usually in the form of apples but she'll bring him anything from pears to assorted berries and various citrus fruits.

- The momento of her's is an icon of Saint Kaourintin; Patron saint of Seafood and founder of Quimper [Kemper].

- In @i-can-fix-them's restoration AU, Brendana is definitely one of and if not the only person who willingly complies with Xanthe's tests. Her rationale being that she is now unemployed thanks to everything and on top of that she may as well contribute positively towards gaining an understanding of her new self/possibly getting further understanding of what the shape is and how it even does what it does to people.

- @trenchcoatedrats's Lexi Reid is among the people she calls a friend: sisters in solidarity of absolutely hating the metal death-trap that Rennick runs albeit on different spectrums. Lexi not taking the old man's shit, Brendana doing her damnedest to understand his PoV and trying to sympathise with the stresses of the man's position....that and he reminds her way too much of her father.

- @unnoticedunawarestillhere's oc kemble is another friend of her's: she finds him to be funny and enjoys having karaoke with him. Considering her linguistic background she also 100% is trying to teach the man Breton.

- She's not a master chef or even at the same skill level of cooking as Roy but she is unquestionably competent at being able to make food that's both good nutritionally and in comfort; she'll even swap recipes occasionally with Roy.

Connie is extremely protective of her other reagents, and intensely against rebirthing or escaping for anyone. She understands that Murkoff is terrible, but to her, the outside world isn’t very different. And here, as a community, they can take care of each other! She will girl boss, gaslight, and gatekeep anyone from leaving lol. Which you can imagine attributes to a toxic obsession with unity. The girl will manipulate to get her way for the ‘Greater good’. Introducing my Reagent oc - Gerryltagh Ranhilda Collister!

She's from the Isle of Man, born and raised in Douglas before her family would immigrate to the states following the conclusion of WW2. They would settle down in Bar Harbor in Maine where her father worked at a fishery and her mother would get a job as a English/Literature teacher at one of the local private schools - life for the family was comfortable...until it wasn't.

After losing her father in the Korean War, Gerryaltagh and her mother would increasingly be put through financial strain which eventually lead the Gerryaltagh choosing to make desperate choice: Thievery.

For a petty thief she was remarkably good at it, not just in picking her marks but at being inconspicuous however eventually her luck ran out and whilst trying to sell her stolen goods she would be turned into the local police by a pawnshop owner. She found herself sitting in a jail cell awaiting her day in court when her public defender came to her with an offer: escape jail time by volunteering for the Murkoff Corporation's Charitable Outreach Program but if she one the man was actually on the company's payroll she'd probably have started cursing him out.

So after a horrific 'introduction' there she found herself in the sleep room of the Sinyala Facility, the newest reagent to be roped into the trials.

Fun facts:

- Speaks both Manx and English

- At the time of her arrest and induction into the trial she is eighteen years old.

- Very much has the 'Tough girl with a soft side' vibe

- Uses the Heal rig because if she's got to heal her injuries she may as well be a good sport and help whoever she can with the healing mist.

- Great at picking locks: it's common for other Reagents to give her the lockpicks so she can quickly open up a container or door.

- Her room is very much what you might call nauticalcore: lots of sailor/mariner/sea related aesthetics.

Ooh, actually this is very much canonical behaviour for her. Her youngest brother is diabetic so by all means she knows the importance of being diabetic and needing to manage your sugar levels.

Second to the fact that she may not be a master chef or even comparable to him, she's still a competent cook and she'll occasionally swap recipes with him.

Honestly translucent Boyd works out well because there's a few different species of sea life that are translucent and i can see the shape being like 'go forth by see-through creature' and just doing this to him

Update on Boyd's design because he's gonna probably maybe perhaps be in the next comic, and I didn't like the old design

Would the shape make a person translucent? Probably not

In the restoration au this is 100% something she does, even after the surgeries her body is still very Isopod-like and that goes for her skeletal system too meaning she's got ridiculous amounts of flexibility. Instead of using it to hide away - she'll do this kind of half-roll where she sort of sits on herself so she can just vibe/read books while freeing up available seating for the others.

Absolutely! Starting off - i can definitely see her teaching him some Breton considering how fluent Kemble is when singing in French.

Breton is a relative of the Welsh and Cornish languages so she absolutely has to stress to the man that although having some significant french influences; it's a Celtic language.

That and to aid him she gives him an album from Youenn Gwernig who was an influential Breton musician who defined the modern pop genre of breton music: in particular it's an album called 'Distro ar Gelted' which means 'Come back the Celt people'.
