A FEW MORE DEATH NOTE PILOT THOUGHTS. it's such a different thing from the actual death note. death note, as we know it now, with light and L and everyone is a story about good and evil, at its core, it's justice and power. it's a critique about the japanese justice system, that's what death note is. death note pilot however, does not really focus on that. sure, the detective makes the declaration that he would kill those who aren't good or something, but that's such a small thing. it's only a single speech bubble. so it's not really about justice and plus, both miura and taro are sympathetic and morally good characters. miura does kill people but like i said in previous post, he was a scared kid. so it's not really about good and evil, or even morality

death note pilot, i feel like, is about life. a lot of the characters are temporarily death, like a second chance at life literally after the death eraser is used. but at the same time, even if they are revived again, it's kind of a reminder that everybody dies and it's just so easy to die. that's just my take on the death note pilot. it's about life and death.

i FINALLY finished the death note pilot and i actually don't have much things to say about it. it's an extremely interesting version of death note, with the death eraser and just how different the characters in the pilot are from the characters that made it to the final cut. one thing i will say,,, taro kagami is such an interesting protagonist to me. i find children or children-adjecant to be very compelling protagonists and taro is like 13 so. it's such a unique perspective, especially with taro here. he is bright, animated, and it's so so different from light. he acts pretty much like how a 13-14 year old would act. pure horror at the concept of killing people, a desire to really fix everything, and a certain kind of bravery since he is literally willing to die for a minute to prove that the death note is real.

even miura acts like how a child his age should. he reacts with fear, he makes rash and terrible decisions because he is scared. he has this book that can kill people, he thought he killed five of his classmates and killed so many more people because he was scared that he was going to get caught. and like. miura's utter guilt. he was willing to kill himself over the fact that used the death note and killed people.

OKAYYYY JUST FINISHED THE FIRST DEATH NOTE MOVIE. couldn't write posts while watching it because i was a little invested. like the whole naomi and shiori plot in the end,,,, i really really liked it actually. they genuinely did the impossible which is make the naomi arc not stupid and nonsensical. it was such a good plot point actually, like we see naomi's grief and how it accumulates to all of that. of course, you can argue that naomi was pretty much acting out of character since light wrote it all. like. would naomi even do that. and then, shiori, she is just a plot point that kind. of dies at the end. and light killed her so he's not even sad about it.

which is like. did he even like her. i like to think he did ??? which means we might have got our first version of light that actually likes women but at the same time, could all be comphet and he just got a girlfriend before to maintain his ladykiller perfect man persona. but i like to think that there was some fondness on his side. like we get a very limited time with shiori but we know she is intelligent and opinionated just like light is. i guess shiori's death is kind of a plot point that serves two things: 1) the obvious one, light uses her death to gain sympathy points so they would let him join the task force, and 2) it's kind of to show the audience how far gone light is, like how focused he is now to being kira, to being the god of the new world. that he would do anything, kill two innocent people, one of them his literal girlfriend just to further his plan.

scene with L and light. they meet for the first time !!! face to face !!! i adore the whole university thing they had together with hideki ryuga and all of that, but i guess you really can't have that. L is a bitch, showing up with the chips brand and flavor that light ate in the potato chip scene. and them just looking and it's all dramatic. peak lawlight. i was slightly worried that the movies might be the adaptation that has the least lawlight to it, but then i remember that change the worLd exists and i have nothing to worry about.

i'll watch a bit of the second movie now !! i am wondering how i should organize my thoughts for that. individual posts like i did for the first movie? or like a long ass post like this but for the entire movie. or like a post with one thought and then reblog that post and go on. the third option,,, it's going to be too long so i'll probably just stick with the first thing i did.
