#747.5 - Mareanie are found crawling on beaches and seafloors, where they hunt for the coral that grows on Corsola’s head as their main source of food. In turn, Mareanie are hunted by Bruxish. They are protected by their thick, spined tentacles, which shield their vulnerable inner body from harm; if the tentacles are torn off, they regrow quickly. The spikes on their tentacles contain a neurotoxin that can produce numbness and an overwhelming itching sensation. As they age, Mareanie’s poison becomes much more potent; those who are stung experience pain for 72 hours, as well as a lasting post-recovery aftereffects. Their tentacles split into additional legs, creating an even more secure dome to shelter within. As they mature, they live primarily on the ocean floor and rarely surface.

This Toxapex based on the Sollasina cthulhu is for @arkana_region’s Primal Reversion contest on Instagram.

The Sollasina cthulhu is  named after the Lovecraftian monster due to its many tentacles and bony/scaly skin. It is thought to be an ancestor of modern day sea cucumbers.
