Blog of my journey to compete in Ironman distance races while having a fun, healthy and balanced life. I started training for triathlons in 2010 and finished my first one in Penticton, BC in 2012 . I've been hooked on that distance ever since and the inspiring atmosphere it creates.

My sister, Megan passed away unexpectedly on Sunday from complications related to her ongoing fight with metastatic breast cancer. She met every challenge, relationship, and task with an unapologetic passion, wisdom, authenticity, and effort. I struggle to find the words to encapsulate what Megan meant to me, our family, and friends. My brother-in-law Marc said it best, “her heart was so kind and she always thought of other’s needs before her own.” As we move through this difficult time I ask that you please keep Marc, the boys, and my parents in your thoughts and prayers. Megan’s friends have setup this email address - please share your condolences, fond memories, and any pictures/videos here and we’ll make sure it’s visible to the right audience at the appropriate time: [email protected]. Information about services (in-person and virtual) will be forthcoming. (at Huntington Beach, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmewOlkP8mAtHotmq80zN4JFwgYsaLpAPzGq-c0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Sam and I returned from errands this morning to this. In April I made decision to not do Kona. Hard decision but the right decision for me. Apparently that didn’t deter @patsagriffin @jess.shima @kyleshima81 Scott and Tonya from planning a day of debauchery. 12 qualifying events, no clue what they mean - CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! First breakfast! https://www.instagram.com/p/CkBygqVPWe3jioiq4YhK08DQ23O6wxusiclqIw0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Fantastic fish trip to Nola with Scott and Chris. Loved being on vacation! The fishing was super tough but the scenery and food were amazing. Life after Ironman is pretty darn fun. (at Myrtle Grove, Louisiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdoGcXPLcVnRiZHwMbpuAqUVQJgbIaRn_A7yoE0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Crap day at work remedied by Sam’s first time at the river! Not pictured, the sprint chase through the forest 20 minutes earlier. Didn’t realize it was a game until it was over 🙈🐶🤪 (at Bend, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQuzzIZhD43rAoLrh76RLnCTDdSrCJGoWrdU4o0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Earlier this month Kari helped out a family who lost their home in a fire. She helped get the family resettled and when they needed to re-home their dog I got the call. While this wasn’t exactly what we planned, sometimes life gives you exactly what you need even when you don’t know you need it. This is Sam, a 4 y/o lab and we are smitten. He went on his first training run yesterday. We both have lots of work to do these next 4 months and I couldn’t be more stoked! Kari gets all the credit. The moon game is strong this morning. I’m off to Texas for work and then I circle back to Portland for 💉 #2. Bike workouts haven’t been consistent this past month but I’m definitely moving in the right direction. T-minus 8 months till the big dance. I’m looking for accountability partners to train with. If you are interested in doing a virtual bike workout together let know!!! (at RDMRedmondAirport) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLCNUE5hT3RNOM_KsIM6uKvQOfFzYnGoSfI-to0/?igshid=vdjegiawsim3

3hr trainer ride today. Getting prepared to spend lots of time here over the next 6 months. Cue’d up the MCU movies in chronological order by timeline. Figure that will cover my Saturday rides through March 😂 (at Bend, Oregon)

I don’t have the perspective today to fully capture the best version of this story. For now it’s this... I said goodbye to my dog Chloe on Sunday. As much as I was prepared the loss still feels devastating. I have an amazing group of friends and am blessed with an equally amazing family. But the thing is that dogs are special - their love is without condition. I’ve said this recently to my family and close friends and I’ll say it again, dogs treat humans better than humans treat each other. I can never fully repay the unconditional love of my dog. When Chloe entered my life I was just a kid pretending to be an adult. Not much has changed, I’m just a little bit better at it. I just know that there is no way I’m the person I am today without Chloe. Forever loved and never forgotten!!!! https://www.instagram.com/p/CCDFSf7BGM1xDGpwmYAbPxqP-VJZ6oMt_lOGHk0/?igshid=i9hjjkq5nzn5
