I mean this whole thing confuses me bc i started kindergarten at 4

Whenever I read fics about american characters written by non-americans there’s often some confusion about the american school system so I thought I’d make this as a reference:

Elementary School/Grade School

Kindergarten: Ages 5-6

1st Grade: Ages 6-7

2nd Grade: Ages 7-8

3rd Grade: Ages 8-9

4th Grade: Ages 9-10

5th Grade: Ages 10-11

6th Grade: Ages 11-12

Middle School*

7th Grade: Ages 12-13

8th Grade: Ages 13-14

High School

9th Grade (Freshman): Ages 14-15

10th Grade (Sophomore): Ages 15-16

11th Grade (Junior): Ages 16-17

12th Grade (Senior): Ages 17-18

College**

Undergrad

Freshman: 1st year

Sophomore: 2nd year

Junior: 3rd year

Senior: 4th year

Grad school

Follows undergrad, typically takes 2-4 years

Notes:

*Some schools consider 6th Grade middle school as well

**I didn’t put age ranges here because no matter how old you are if it’s your first year of college you’re a freshman, second you’re a sophomore and so on. You could start college at age 40 and still be a freshman. But if you assume your character goes to college right after high school, they’ll start at 18-19 and it goes up a year from there

***After finishing undergrad they will have a Bachelor’s degree

****2 years in grad school is a Masters degree and 4 years is a Doctorate

Other Notes:

American schools typically start in August or September, have Winter Break for 1 to 2 weeks in December, Spring Break for 1 to 2 weeks in April, and Summer Break in May or June until school starts again in August or September

If your character’s birthday is between August and December shift the age ranges +1 year

Schools stop having recess after elementary school

In high school classes are either split into periods or blocks. If it’s in periods, everyday there are 7, 50 minute class periods, typically with the first period being homeroom. Lunch is either before or after 4th period. If it’s in blocks, classes are 2 hours and the characters will have classes A, B, and C on Monday Wednesday and Friday, and classes D, E and F on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lunch is after 2nd block, and typically one block is a study period

College is not called Uni, it’s just called college

The minimum to be considered a full time college student is 12 credit hours, but that varies from school to school

Most students have to live on campus the first 2 years of college but that also varies from school to school

Update on the pink house

Im trying to find a block palette but i want another color to seperate it so its not too much

And like i know basic color theory so i thought i could use green but all the green blocks are ugly

This made me drop everything to find enough materials to make a pink house

you guys… in 1.14 the seed “gay rights!” (without the quotes) spawns you in an adorable flower forest biome that’s close to plains, an ocean, a VERY cool looking extreme hills biome, and a savanna with a village in it 👀
