A crowdfunding appeal has been launched to help a 29-year-old Black trans woman who lost both her legs after allegedly being thrown onto NYC subway tracks by her boyfriend.
A statement from the New York City District Attorney confirms that the victim and her boyfriend were at the Fulton St. station in Brooklyn when the man is said to have seen the oncoming downtown train coming and âthrownâ his girlfriend towards the tracks.
âThe victim was rushed to the hospital, where both of her legs had to be amputated. She also suffered from fractures to her ribs and a blood clot in her lungs,â the statement continues.
When the police arrived, they found the woman under the train, reports Into.
The woman has since taken part in an interview with trans activist Hope Giselle, and explains that she was on her way to a gender-affirming appointment when she alleges that she and her boyfriend got into an argument and he âthrewâ her onto the tracks.

PSA: the guardian is not working on a hit piece on diy hrt, and claims they are are misinformation
on the 18th, this post appeared on 4chan's /lgbt/ (slurs in thread: link). a screenshot was posted to reddit, then to tumblr. you've probably seen it:
today, the 23rd, another screenshot popped up on various discord servers, then was reposted variously to twitter. it shows a supposed email from guardian journalist and notorious TERF Susanna Rustin, claiming as the original 4chan post does.
it's now been shared around, and it's with good intentions. the message is useful: don't share your personal information or medical data with journalists, especially ones that happen to be TERFs.
but the post does this through misinformation and fearmongering. i'm still waiting on my response by email from Rustin, but she's reiterated twice (once, twice) that she did not write the email and is not working on such a story. on the 19th, i talked to other guardian newsroom journalists, who said they also did not know of a story's existence.
the moral of the story: this is misinformation, and it's dangerous. it spreads a fine message here, but it does it through spreading anxiety and terror.
you can follow along with this post on my parallel thread on twitter. also calling on @wakewithgiggli to delete their original post!

Watching some of the supplements to the pink flamingos criterion and this performer in the movie, Elizabeth Coffey was pre-op while filming, and if youâve seen the movie you know she famously or infamously exposes herself on camera. Fast forward 50 years to a retrospective of John waters in 2022 in a Baltimore art museum, and I guess theyâd made their bathrooms gender neutral somewhat recently and also named the bathrooms after John waters. So John invited Elizabeth Coffey who is also still alive and an advocate for trans seniors to come and be the first person to piss in their newly gender neutral bathrooms lol which seems like a very John waters thing to do lol

my apologies if this has already been posted here but im sharing this. here is what someone said on twitter along w this image:
the central image text reads: â@everyone I HAVE BEEN RELIABLY INFORMED GUARDIAN JOURNALISTS ARE SNOOPING AROUND ASKING FOR TRANS PEOPLE TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT DIY HRT. THEY ARE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR UNDER-18S DOING DIY. SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE SAID, BUT DO. NOT. ENGAGE. SPREAD WIDELY. DO NOT ENGAGE. WE NEED THIS NOTICE SPREAD OUT VIA EVERY GRASSROOTS SUPPORT GROUP AND SOCIAL CIRCLE IN THE COUNTRY.
URGENT. IF THEY GET EVEN ONE TO TAKE PART IT BECOMES A NATIONAL CONVERSATION. TOP ALERT.
Guardian journos are apparently asking trans people about DIY. Trans followers: DO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO THEM. NOT A WORD.
I also know Iâve got cis mutuals who have written for the Guardian. Please know Iâve always thought less of you because of that.

Donna Lee Parsons isnât particularly well-known in hardcore/punk circles, but she should be. She played a pivotal role in rock history.
Before she transitioned, she founded Rat Cage Records, a record label that released the Beastie Boysâ first two EPs; she signed them at their very first show. Twenty years later, after Parsons came out as trans and the bandâs meteoric rise to fame, the artists quietly paid for Parsonâs gender affirmation surgery.
According to member Adam Horovitz, since the men knew she wouldnât accept the money if she saw it as a charitable act, they claimed they owed her royalties from their EP Polly Wog Stew.
[...]
So if youâve ever worn a âlightning boltâ t-shirt or listened to Victim in Pain or found yourself fondly recalling a Beastie Boys show you went to, you have a transgender woman to thank for that. And we should know her story. If you call yourself a hardcore kid, Donna Lee Parsons touched your life.

While we're on the subject of Paris Is Burning...
Y'all should look into the Dorian Corey Project right here on Tumblr.
The Dorian Corey Project is a small online collective dedicated to preserving Black queer history. I found out about them a few years ago and I greatly appreciate the work they put in to honor Dorian Corey's history while so much of the dialogue surrounding her as a person tends to sensationalize her situation. They currently have a campaign running now until June called Gender In Real Life meant to "Highlight the efforts of (hyper) visible Trancestors and Ancestors whose life work inspires Black LGBTQIA people today." (The website will be up soon, too <3) Go over and show them some love and appreciation for the work they do!
