Let's talk about Emmet Brickowski and Lord Business.

These guys (and some others)

For my speech I would like to talk in depth about Emmet and Business.

Theories and Head cannons about Business and Emmet specifically.

You guys know about the theory that Business is Emmet's father? Well, what if Business was a masterbuilder while Emmet's mother was a masterbreaker?

"But Business hates master builders blah blah blah"

Well, what if Business's life was ruined by master builders?

Many years ago, when the normies, builders, and breakers lived in harmony. In an earlier canceled draft, young Business seems to show excitement when building his office building until master builders mess with his plan, causing his hates for all things abnormal.

Business would have fallen in love with a masterbreaker and have a son with her, Emmet but, he would soon abandon his family to pursue his hatred for masterbuilders.

Emmet inhabiting the genes of a masterbuilder and a masterbreaker will make Emmet more qualified to be the special since he is like the balance of both teams.

As the path of Business's dream lengths, he would build his own city, Bricksburg. A safe haven for those who want to follow the instructions. Inhabited with Octan tech, the city was a shield from the outside. Business would shoo away masterbuilders while leading in normal figures into his prison. Heavily guarded and patrolled, the city was ready to take down any anomalies that will build in its way.

As Business's pursue lengthens, he will forget about the family he had ditched behind. He will get news about a masterbreaker causing a ruckus outside of the city with a small child.

Those people being Emmet and his mother. His mother is finding a place to keep her and her son safe during Business's concurring. Business calls for patrol to stop her. Emmet's mother quickly gets overwhelmed by patrolled and 'taken care of'.

But what happened to little Emmet?

Emmet was taken back to Octan and raised until adult hood, shielded from the community worried about Emmet's backstory. When Emmet was finally able to live life alone, Business ordered his crew to wipe Emmet's memories of his mother and his time at Octan.

Emmet's mind was cleaned out and reduced to only a few memories to keep him going. His job being a construction worker, his ability to drive, and how to take care of himself.

Business would assign figures he finds suspicious the job of being a construction worker. One, to help improve the city and grow the city in size. Two, so the minifigures would get used to using instructions and if they don't like the instructions, the spare bricks will try to influence the figures into 'revealing' or awakening their masterbuilding technique so they can be taken care of easily rather than in public. Emmet was assigned this occupation because Business had sensed something in Emmet because of Emmet's mother.

Emmet would begin to get freakish dreams and visions about the future. He would try to reach out to doctors and his 'friends' about them for help. They would get uncomfortable about Emmet's rants and report him to Octan for his 'abnormality'. This is why GcBc has footages of interviews of people that Emmet knows because Emmet is seen as an anomaly.

Business would have a spare apartment that is decked with cameras for Emmet, so he can keep an eye on him once he got out of Octan in case of any 'abnormal' activities.

In the events of the first film

When Emmet finally realizes that he is the special and a masterbuilder, his memories start to come back of his mother and what had truly happened to her in the form of dreams.

Extra Theories/Headcannons

Where Are the Masterbuilders?

On the subject of Emmet's dreams and vision's I think that Rex gets the influence to become a masterbreaker by having those visions. I don't believe that he learned the skill. I believe that during Undar of the Dryard system, Rex would have flashbacks and dreams about his mother masterbreaking and stuff like that and realized that he is a masterbreaker too from his mom's genes and trained himself to be stronger like his mother.

I also have found it a little odd with the lack of masterbreakers (only being ONE of them) As I was thinking about events of the first film, I had realized that,

Benny is shown to shatter his builds with one small punch.

What if Benny is a masterbreaker like Emmet/Rex? It could have just been unknowledge by producers, but I find it odd how Benny can break a build as simply as Rex can.

The Spare Box

In the first film, there is a scene that the man upstairs points out a box of Legos (Cloud Cuckooland) to Finn and talks about those. This proved a small point that Finn has extra Legos to work with. A small theory that can't be backed up as much but whatever. What if those bricks in that spare box are the same bricks used to build up old towns of Business's youngster age? Or in other words, Emmet's actual hometown.

Business had destroyed towns surrounding Bricksburg to make the city the highlight of the continent (?) the city that everyone draws too. Masterbuilders had used the discarded pieces to create Cloud Cuckooland, a land where Masterbuilders can escape from harm caused by Business.

Brainwashing Without Washing the Hair

Going back to some bits ago, I think that when a minifigure would enter Bricksburg, they would have to get their memories wiped. So, they wouldn't have any existing memories of masterbuilders or just anything out of the norm. Business would have Octan branded machines that would wipe and replace memories of a figure before they were able to willingly settle into their new life. These could be the protype of the Think Tank seen the ending parts of the first film being used to hold Masterbuilders hostage.

Some supports for this theory is that Emmet head is empty with only small thoughts. With Emmet's mind getting wiped almost completely, there would probably be no memoires or strong thoughts being held his mind. Emmet's Bond with Planty can help since he has no one to attach to since he barely has a memory with anyone else in his life, so he goes to Planty for support. Another thing to support this is that others see Emmet as someone with no defying personality. In the scene where GcBc show Emmet interviews of his coworkers, they talk about how Emmet has no special traits and that he is just normal.

Surfer Dave is another example, with his name being 'Surfer' Dave we can already see that most of his personality being a Surfer, and he is usually seen carrying a surfboard. Dave's memory could have been brutally erased like Emmet's and reduced his mind to only surfing.

I could mention other characters like Mrs. Scratchin' Post and Larry the Barista, but Mrs. Scratchin' Post could just be old, and Larry could just be miserable.

Small Headcannon

There isn't really any part of the first film where Mrs. Scratchn' Post shows dislike to Emmet. A small headcannon that I have made to touch this rant off is that Mrs. Scratchn' Post is the only semi family-friend that Emmet knows because she is so friendly to him. I think that since she is getting older, she accepts help from Emmet and doesn't see anything wrong with him and usually forgets anyway due to her old age. Also, that he teaches Emmet how to crochet and knit, that's how Emmet made the L+E pillow in the second film.
