This is something I have heard modern day men say too. I have the misfortune of knowing a couple of people who have lost their children or had their children diagnosed with life threatening illnesses and this remains a common theme. Men are told even by their closest friends that they’re so sorry their wives are going through this as though they are not also.

Please, if any men in your life are ever faced with such tragedy remember to tell them and offer them whatever you would the mothers. And remind them that they’re allowed to feel and grieve and need too.
