Hi Laura! I'm 25 yrs old and recently graduated with my degree in Communications. I've always loved drawing, and after seeing how versatile working in animation can be, I became interested. I've always loved to draw but I've never gone to art school or took art classes. I find myself wanting to work in a creative job more and more (especially because my current agency job is a desk job and not my passion)... am I too old to start studying art and becoming an artist in animation or otherwise?

It’s NEVER too late. JK Rowling started writing Harry Potter in her late 20s, Vera Wang designed her first collection at age 40, and Van Gogh didn’t start painting until his 20s (most of his works were made in the last couple years of his life). A lot of artists in animation started their careers after 30. Age is just a number. Do something you’re passionate about! Make a portfolio and apply! PS. I didn’t go to art school either, you can do it!

I made a thing! I was thinking about this for a few days - because I realized that when I was young, I was also frustrated about being given the same advice over and over - without really knowing what it meant!!

Here’s 5 techniques which I have done before which have helped me grow as an artist, which are good for 5-minute warmups or just straight up challenges for your sketchbook! 

Obviously, these are not the ONLY techniques - they’re just the ones I find most fun! And maybe they’re not the most ‘correct’ ones out there, but it’s better than another comic about practicing more, right?
