i'm actually really upset at the watcher "fandom"

y'all seem like a lot of fair-weather fans to a group of guys who have consistently put out shows that you love, you've gone to their live shows, you've bought their merch, you've followed them over the years as they've grown and built their own brand

and then when they come out to say "hey, we're proud to announce the next big step for us as creators, producers, talent, and directors," you fucking scream and rail and throw a fit because they are launching a paid service that allows them MUCH more creative control and freedom while also supporting their staff in a more sustainable way???

that's sick and pathological, and i wonder how many of y'all were blogging in support of the wga/sag-aftra strike, because if you were and you're pitching a fit now? check yourself. not fucking cute to say you support those folks and then bitch and moan when your so-called favorite creators take the initiative to support themselves in a way that they feel more confident in.

"but we liked the old content that looked like it was made in a basement and the blue and yellow text and--" okay, did you ever think that maybe?? MAYBE???? the guys wanted to do something better??? if you really supported them, you'd be in support of their creative ambitions, too.

the Last person i want opinions on this from is a youtuber. just because people classify you and watcher the same does not give you any insight into their situation. one of you uses one camera, one mic, and records in your house. the other records on sets, travels, has at least 3 cameras, multiple mics, hires 20+ people, has 22 original series, 3 podcasts, and uploads consistently 💀

more pearls of wisdom from me but uhhh if you're twenty something, you're going to fuck up again in a major way like every single decade of your life. the reason it doesn't seem like that's true is that adults older than you pull up their pants and deal with it. not to say you're wrong for feeling under water and needing to talk about it, it's just the older you get the more you don't need to talk about it as much. fuck ups get easier and you're more practiced un-fuckening your fuck ups, so you just get to work and it still sucks but you're just wiser and know you'll figure it out. so you'll get through this, whatever it is right now. prommy!!! <3

thank you very much anon! :) 🫶 god, i was making sure to be a blog reminding people to take care of themselves cause i wanted to be a shelter in the storm of anger, but now that the worse is (likely) over and we’re working towards rebuilding our fandom, i just wanna finally talk about some things and say that it’s been an emotional roller coaster with so much fighting, rudeness, and RACISM GOOD GOD!!!

i wanna be clear that i am not an asian poc, and the majority of the hate was toward that specific group so my heart goes out to the asian community very much! :(

i am however a black poc, so imagine my surprise going online and seeing people saying that shane is purer cause he is white instead of a person of color! like excuse me WHAT ??? 😐

it’s just like, i already hear enough irl and in general online areas about how people think white people are kinder, safer, more selfless, etc. i don’t ever really take it to heart because it happens so often.

but there was something about the fandom that i love and have looked too for so long becoming so incredibly offensive that just made me so upset. cause like, it just made me think, “wow! is this what you guys have thought of poc this entire time??? :(”

i just really fucking hope that this fandom can heal, love, and BE BETTER.

thank you for being a slightly normal (at least about the controversy) watcher fan. these have been tough times.

side note i think it’s actually really good of them to actually acknowledge what they did wrong, apologize, listen to their community. it’s better than some people have done. this is an entirely low stakes thing that people have blown crazy out of proportion (i understand some of the discourse, not the steven stuff). thank you for being at least some normal in this chaos

its been tough! i am glad they addressed it and are listening to us. im still stubborn and think that they really didnt need to do all that for those people, but maybe thats why watcher is better then me. (and why im glad i wasnt an actual part of this). plus this might be a better option for everyone.

its definitely a good apology/update. i knew they'd do the right thing. and if this is the worst thing they do, then im happy. its been blown way out of proportion, and escaped containment. i have my suspicions that some of the loudest people from all that mess are just people who love drama and attention and arent actually a part of this community.

i understand some of the criticisms. but ill be honest, after seeing the worst of the worst hate, i wasnt able to look at any normal criticism with a fair lense. it just all melded together. (and once that happened i deleted my social apps for the weekend!)

im glad people felt good about my posts, and was a breath of fresh air in the midst of chaos.
