Photo by @tyronefoto | An inmate participant in the Angola Prison Rodeo avoids the business side of a bill during the "guts and glory" event. The object is to grab a poker chip imbetween the horns of the bull. This was my first time photographing this rodeo in the Louisiana State Penitentiary, the oldest prison rodeo in the U.S. still operating today. @natgeocreative @thephotosociety #angola #prisonrodeo #louisiana #gutsandglory by natgeo

Fall, Oulanka NP, Finland. Photo by @peteressick. This is the time of year to photograph mist on rivers and lakes in your nature photos. The mist is caused when the air temperature becomes colder than the water temperature. I have found about a 20 degree difference makes for a lot of mist, and the larger the difference the more mist. The early mornings are obviously the best time to photograph, as the air temperature is at its coolest before the sun rises and "burns off" the mist. by natgeo

Photograph by @thomaspeschak A new open source low cost underwater drone @openrov_hq is test flown by its creator @davidtlang. I shot this split level image in the incredibly rich waters of the Solomon Islands in the western Pacific Ocean. I was onboard the @natgeo @lindbladexp vessel Orion for @mission_blue II and @TED, a voyage that brought together more than 100 scientists, conservationists, artists and innovators to present, discuss and workshop solutions to mitigate the greatest threats to our oceans. Getting more people to connect with the underwater world is critical and a new generation of low cost underwater drones might be our best weapon yet to engage people in conservation. The more eyes we have in the oceans, the more people will understand and care. @thomaspeschak by natgeo

The olive #python, or liasis olivaceus, it's #Australia's second-largest snake species, with adults growing over 13 ft. With its colour pattern a uniform chocolate brown to olive green, sometimes they get confused with the venomous king brown snake, Pseudechis australis, and killed as a consequence. They eat mammals, birds and other reptiles. To hunt they lie and wait next to animal trails to trap their prey. Also, they are good swimmers and also hunt in waterholes, striking from under the water. They also #prey on crocodiles and monitor lizards. @robertclarkphoto @thephotosociety by natgeo

Photo by @edkashi/@viiphoto: A young girl goes about daily life walking over a heap of burning garbage in Bonsaaso, Ghana on Oct. 4, 2015. This image is from a series created as part of a project in which VII photographers are partnering with The Millennium Village Project. As stated on their website, “The Millennium Villages Project addresses the root causes of extreme poverty, taking a holistic, community-led approach to sustainable development. Our work unites science, business, civil society and government in these efforts by empowering communities and partners alike to become a part of the solution to ending extreme poverty. Together, our generation can end extreme poverty.” @viiphoto@earthinstitute

Photo by @pedromcbride // Last year I witnessed the Colorado River reach the Sea of Cortez for the first time in nearly two decades. We paddle boarded down a pulse of water released for restoration efforts thanks to the hard work of many via #raisetheriver and others. To learn more about how to get involved with this unique alliance that is creating restoration success stories, go to the bio link @pedromcbride and help @raiseriver renew this damaged delta. #chasingrivers #Mexico #delta #gratitude #conservation #photooftheday by natgeo

Photp by @ciriljazbec / My long-term project dealing with the life of small communities threatened by climate change, from Kiribati to Alaska and Greenland, asks the question, “How do I photograph climate change?” I’ve found the best way to do it is through personal stories. In April, I took a helicopter to the tiny village of Nuugatsiaq, Greenland, home to about 60 people. The village lies at the end of Umiamako, the fastest melting glacier on the Uummannaq fjord. Here, the Street Larsen family was my host for the week. The village school had only seven students and was closed for the week I was there, and the children spent this time at home, playing video games and guitar. A moment came when Anguteq lifted himself up on a bar hanging from the ceiling and let the sound of music flow through him. I contemplated his life ten years in the future, as well as that of his home village, where life is changing rapidly and many young people are departing for cities, leaving the traditional lifestyle behind them. #Greenland #Inuits #climate #change Check out @natgeo PROOF blog 'Seven Nat Geo Photographers on Witnessing Climate Change'. http://ift.tt/152d8Fa by natgeo

Photograph by Michael Yamashita. @yamashitaphoto A hillside covered by thousands of Tibetan prayer flags in the colors of a rainbow. A prayer flag is a cloth printed with a blessing or prayer. They are often planted on mountain ridges as Tibetans believe, the wind will blow the message and disperse blessings and good fortune to all beings around the world. #Kham #Tibet #Lhagong #Sichuan #China @natgeocreative @thephotosociety by natgeo

Photograph by @paulnicklen // I lived alone on the tundra in the Canadian high Arctic for 3 months in 1994. I had just left my job as a wildlife biologist and my dream was to someday work for @natgeo. It was one of the most beautiful and wonderful experiences of my life. The pictures never came close to capturing the power and importance of this journey, however, near the end of the trip, I managed to spend a few minutes with this tundra wolf. He was sleeping in a bed of lupine flowers when I found him and then he stared through me, filling me with excitement and #gratitude. I will be sharing many more memories from #myjourney on @paulnicklen #smile #photooftheday #picoftheday #love #beauty #instagramhub #wolf #canada #arctic @natgeocreative @thephotosociety by natgeo

Photo by @tbfrost | Another update from the field while on assignment with @jtkerby for @natgeo . The Guassa plateau in the central highlands of Ethiopia covers an area of about 110 square kilometers , making it one of the largest intact Afro-alpine ecosystems in Africa. Here, a herd of gelada monkeys cross the road that bisects the plateau on their late afternoon trek to the cliffs where they will spend the night.
