First of all Milan is wonderful and all of the locals we have met have been kind, patient with our stupid questions, helpful and super friendly.

However, today we barely escaped being robbed on a busy, rush hour metro car in Milan. It turned out that the two pregnant girls who were trying to distract me by saying they didn’t have enough room were working with a third on the other side of me who unzipped my wallet. When all she found was change, she tried to snack my purse away. Just by dumb luck and not by any brilliance on my part, I managed to grab back my purse. Before I even realized what had happened, the Gang of Four jumped off the subway car at the next stop. Lesson: when in crowds, hang in tight to your belongings because during all the confusion, and jostling you won’t know you’ve been robbed until after the perpetrators have run away. It was a good lesson for me to be more aware in crowded situations and I want to warn others to be aware and on guard.
