IN SUMMARY
The dead are not quiet. Shiloh has always known this. For as long as she can remember, she has heard them, and the pasts people carry with them.
Insofar as Shiloh knows, her father died before her mother knew she was pregnant. Though this isn’t truth – her mothers encounter with an eldritch abomination* wearing human skin led to her. [x] [x]*
Perhaps her mother knew, but Alma isn’t talking. She’s been missing for a little over a decade.
Nearly meeting her father for herself is what led to Shiloh losing her right leg below the knee. And it is this loss, atop the loss of her remaining family that has led her to moving often. Dodging her medical debt as much as dodging her Father.
Shiloh was a lonely child, and grew into a lonely adult. But she is kind, and curious, and recklessly brave for those she loves.
TIMELINE
October 4th - 10th 1992 —- Lost
Newly married Alma Ferrymen goes missing in the woods surrounding her home town of Werifesteria. Search parties can find neither hide nor hair of her until a much thinner, wild eyed Alma staggers out into the road near the hospital. She has no memory of the last six days.
November 16th 1992 —— Life and Death
Alma discovers she’s pregnant. Her husband, Clark Ferrymen is in a fatal accident on his way home from work after hearing the news.
July 1st 1993 ———– Birth
Alma Ferrymen gives birth with only her Mother, Rosalind bearing witness.
August 22nd 1998 ——- Nowhere Safe
By this point Shiloh’s mother, Alma, and her grandmother, Rosalind are well aware that Shiloh sees and interacts with spirits. This the first incident where the realize that the spirits can interact back. While heading to bed, Alma hears an odd noise in her daughter’s room and investigates. Shiloh’s face had gone almost purple from lack of air, and she was desperately clawing at something Alma couldn’t see. At this moment, Shiloh reached up and all at once the thing strangling her was gone. In a panic, Alma snatched up her daughter and took her to Rosalind’s house, where they would live from then on.
May 1st 1999 —— Resurrectionist
Shiloh brings back Rosalind’s dead garden after an unexpected frost killed it. Alma, seeing this, finally panics and goes to the local Priest, Father Jeremiah Baring for help with a daughter who subverts the natural order. Unknowingly bringing Shiloh to the attention of her real father. In the years that followed, Shiloh was often in the church and often praying for her weirdness to just go away. Whilst Father Baring was encouraging her mother’s fear and paranoia.
June 5th 2008 —— Grandmother Rosalind’s Undeath
Rosalind passes away of a heart attack in the middle of a conversation with Shiloh. Shiloh, who has only every brought plants or small animals back from the dead panics, and tries to do the same for her Grandmother. Only it doesn’t work. The body will move, but it isn’t alive. The horror that her mothers expresses when she sees what he daughter has done will live with Shiloh forever. Together, they have to kill Rosalind again. And Alma can’t look at her.
July 1st 2008 ———— Sweet Sixteen
Shiloh returns home from the Birthday Party her friends threw her to see a huge puddle of blood in the center of the kitchen floor, and a yawning silence filling the house. Her mother is nowhere to be seen. The door to the backyard hangs open like a mouth.
And from the floor above her, she hears footsteps. A familiar voice she can’t quite place says her name. And the dead SCREAM.
She runs. Out of the house and into the woods. And she knows that something is behind her, reaching out. About to catch her – until a massive black dog intervenes. And then Shiloh slips, and goes crashing down a sudden drop. Her arm and her leg snap, her foot is crushed. And when she lands in the shallow water so far below, she is mercifully unconscious. But she wont be for long. She’ll wake to the horror of her broken body, and the knowledge that no one is coming for her until Monday at least.
July 7th 2008 ——— Shiloh Found
The search parties find Shiloh. She’s airlifted to the nearest hospital. Alma Ferrymen is confirmed missing with evidence of foul play.
July 20th 2008 ——– Foster Care
With no living family, Shiloh goes into the system. Much like her mother, the foster family she’s placed with are devout Christians. After everything, Shiloh doesn’t much feel like playing along. They clash often.
July 1st 2010 —- Eighteenth Birthday
Shiloh leaves behind her foster family, and sets off on her own. They don’t keep in touch.
SINCE THEN….
Shiloh has been drifting from place to place, never feeling quite comfortable with putting down roots. She helps the dead when she can, and the living when she’s allowed.

SUMMARY
Weaver and her twin sister Averie were part of a loving and creative family and had a pretty normal upbringing. Their mother, Ruth worked at and helped run the Mary Anning Marine Biology center in Werifesteria, and their father Jacob was the woodshop and History teacher at the local high school.
Then, on their eighth birthday, Weaver and Averie got lost in the woods around town. And only Weaver, now deaf, left them a week and a half later. She had no memory of what happened in the trees (or maybe only dreams of endless light) and no idea what happened to her sister.
Things were incredibly strained for a few years, but the family came together. But even aside from the hearing loss, Weaver wasn’t the same. She’d always had an uncanny knack for knowing when people were going to call before the phone rang, or when someone was stopping by on a whim.
Now it was more intense. It all came to a head when she stopped her mother joining a boating trip where two other researchers died in a freak storm that blew in unexpectedly and capsized the boat. From then on her family knew to trust her hunches. And record the more frightening aspects – the times when she went blank eyed and spoke in a clear toneless voice that wasn’t her own. Prophecies.
Weaver has never given up on finding her twin. As an adult she works for the police as a forensics photographer, though also does freelance work. She’s good at it. And especially good at solving things people don’t want solved.

SUMMARY
In 1664, Howl was born Bastion Walker. The firstborn son of Werifesteria’s founder, Jonah Walker. Or so he thought. He was a bastard who looked just enough like his mother than no one spotted it. His mother, in turn pretended he didn’t exist. It was her second born, Silas that she cared for. Bastion and Silas were close – but in the end, the town, the cult, and their family led to Silas murdering his big brother. With the help of his mother, he buried Howl in a Shallow grave out in the woods.
But a churchyard sprung up around it ten years later. And Bastion, the first to be buried there – returned as something other. And went looking for his brother. Wanting to take a second chance.
That was his mistake. Silas was too terrified – he sold his brother out to the Fisher King Society. Bastion woke on the second day of his new life in a cell. And spent the next two hundred and thirty four years a tortured science experiment of sorts.
It burned away all memory of who he might have been before. And left behind only Howl. Who, in 1929 finally escaped his containment, and murdered every member of the cult he could find.
But the Fisher King Society persists, along with its head. To this day, Howl hunts them.

RULES
A minor introduction first. I am Hailey! I’m 28 as of writing this, and I’ve been in the RPC since I was 18, albeit with some breaks in between. I’m American and work graveyard shifts from 10pm to 6am, though my job tends to have a lot of downtime so I’ll be somewhat active over night and early in the mornings.
WHO I WILL WRITE WITH
This blog is 18+, and 21+ preferred. The content I post will be mature at times and I just plain don’t feel comfortable engaging with minors in this kind of setting.
I am not mutuals only! But I am still selective. You are welcome to message me and interact even if I don’t follow you.
FOLLOWING
Generally I give people a few days to a week before I unfollow, after that point I assume lack of interest. That said it can be difficult to tell if I’ve followed a blog before, so any unfollow/refollow shenanigans are entirely incidental. I don’t remember everyone, unfortunately.
Writing With Me
Short quick things can be fun! And I’ve had a few one liners blossom into wonderful dynamics! But I am generally multipara and once in a blue moon novella. (With plotted starters being the longest because I have a terminal need to scene set).
Sending in memes, responding to opens and plotting is the best way to interact with me! I like memes. They make for good prompts and are a good way of measuring interest too. You can always turn a meme into a thread.
LENGTH
Don’t ever feel the need to match lengths! Write only what feels right. So long as you don’t give me two sentences in response to a multi-para (or something to that effect) all is well! I’m never going to judge. And lets be honest, replies can and will fluctuate! It’s natural. Don’t feel you have to force yourself.
ALSO. If I write something and I got something wrong, or you need more to work with *please* let me know and I will happily edit. This is supposed to be a fun hobby, and I am more than willing to work to make that happen!
SHIPPING & SMUT
I love shipping. I adore exploring romantic relationships! Smut I have a hard time writing with a partner though. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I’m a fade to black kind of gal. Can get up to quite a bit before then of course!
GODMODDING
Maybe it’s because I run/play Dungeons and Dragons weekly, but if there’s something beyond minor in your reply (such as being handed something innocuous, or a scene change) just ask me about it and I’ll okay it. A little leeway is needed sometimes.
I DO NOT CONSIDER POWERFUL CHARACTER USING THOSE POWERS TO BE GODMODDING. Don’t hold back your muse on my account. I’m perfectly happy with consequences. It’s half the fun!

The lights flickered once, twice – then went dark with a sound like a glass breaking.
While this could be a sign of supernatural activity (what was the fascination with light fixtures amongst the dead anyway?) Shiloh pinned this one on the storm. It had been going strong since four pm when she reached the little hotel (…or was it a Bed and Breakfast? Did those usually have more than one room?), and had only gotten worse as the night pulled its cloak around them.
She checked her phone, but the screen didn’t light up. And when she tried holding the on button, nothing happened.
Brown eyes narrowing, she slipped out of bed and went to the window. In a flash of lightning she saw a dark shape fleeing across the flooded lawn. Her car in the little lot beyond it wasn’t even visible through the swaying pines and newly formed rapids of the footpath. Shapes moved out there. And she wasn’t sure they were on the living plane, or the dead one.
A bad feeling was building in her stomach. Or maybe her teeth. A sense like biting into tin foil.
She slung her backpack over one shoulder and eased open the door to her room. Pitch black. But her eyes had never quite been normal. A phosphorous glow issued through the worn carpeting, where the dead had walked before.
There were a lot of foot prints.
You knew a lot of people died here before you even checked in, she scolded herself. It’s historic. This is no reason to be concerned.
But why then, were the dead themselves so quiet? She hadn’t heard them humming at her from under the floorboards.
“Hello?” Nothing. She isn’t sure if that’s a good thing yet.
Her door shut with the softest click as she crept back downstairs to the lobby. Lightning walked and thunder talked. In the darkness below the Lobby seemed too full of sinister shadows. One of them, she trips on, and falls to her knees in a pool of fresh blood.
Shiloh rears back from the body -- and can’t help but scream when a hand lands on her shoulder.
