For nearly 30 years, GAPIMNY (formerly Gay Asian Pacific Islander Men of NY) has been creating events and programs, documenting queer and trans AAPI history, and advocating for rights and visibility.
Founded in 1990, GAPIMNY offered critical support and community to AAPIs experiencing racism and homophobia in the midst of an HIV/AIDS crisis.
In 1991, GAPIMNY, Asian Lesbians on the East Coast, and other groups protested the racist musical Miss Saigon on Broadway. GAPIMNY played a major role in educating white LGBTQ people about yellowface and racist stereotypes.聽

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!!
Ganesha Chaturthi (also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi,) is the Hindu festival celebrated in honour of the elephant-headed god, Ganesha. This is a very auspicious day celebrated to pray to the god so that every new activity that is started is successfully completed without any obstacles.
Although it is unknown when or how Ganesh Chaturthi was first observed, the festival has been publicly celebrated since the era of Shivaji. The festival marks the birthday of lord Ganesha who is widely worshipped by Hindus as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Hindu devotees prepare samay dwan (a heap of beaten rice and other elements) to offer prayers in front of the Ganesh Temple during Ganesh Chaturthi festival. It is celebrated by families at home by people at their places of work and in public.
