Abstract Expressionism

For my final project, I decided to use two forms of art that we used during the semester, those two being Futurism and Formal Elements. On this little picture I made, I envisioned the robots of the future being able to go out into space to be used to collect information further than an astronaut could collect. I thought it would be a great idea for scientists and it would be a great way to utilize the robots for something interesting. I put my robot that I drew and colored in the Futurism topic and put him in a space looking background which was made from the Formal Elements topic.

I know that this project should have been a frame that you could put up in your house, but I thought it would be cool to create something that I could keep with me everywhere I go to help me remember my junior year. I could either keep it up on a wall or, which is what I will do, keep it in my wallet so that every time I open it I could see it. I think it’s a great way to keep this memory with me available to look at wherever I go.

for my futurism assignment, i chose to draw the tesla robot. even though it was made in 2022, i think this still shows the potential of technology in robots in the near future. the robot is able to walk, talk, and use it’s hands, but it is controlled by a human using a device. maybe someday these robots will be able to move on their own and mimic human movements and interaction. (there are a few i’ve seen that can do so already) i colored it because i believe that if i were to buy one of these things i would be able to customize it to my liking and choose any color i want it to be.

For my fauvism portrait I drew i picture of my friend bridget. I choose these specific colors because i felt as if the background of the original post was boring and bland and downplays the energy that bridget always has. I specifically used green to embrace bridget’s Irish culture that she presents in her favorite holiday.

for my fauvism assignment, i decided to use my friend Keo and recreate his outfit with the colors that match his personality. i wanted it to focus more on him rather than the background so i just drew him and colored the background with his colors. i made him blue because he has a relaxed and calm personality in general, and just a really laid back kind of guy. for his shoes, i made them purple because he’s also very independent and can stand his ground by himself. his hoodie is red and green because green represents him being a kind and caring individual, and red represents him being bold and passionate in whatever he’s working on. overall, he’s a laid back person who is very independent, caring and passionate.

for the impressionism assignment i chose the iconic catch by Odell that i don’t think anyone will ever forget about.

i think this moment will forever carry on whenever it comes to people playing catch, like someone catching an ball that’s out of reach with one hand and yelling “Odell!!” just like shooting a bottle or something into a trash can and yelling “Kobe!!” i bet everyone and their mother knows about this catch.

midterm

so i chose this (seems to be) photoshopped photo of Beyoncé golfing a long time ago. it seems like her thigh was badly edited and it made it look really weird/unnatural. i chose this one because she is one of today’s biggest artists and i guess even the biggest artists still use photoshop on their photos (this being an example of a bad edit).

for this drawing i was a little limited on supplies and i only used colored markers for this one. it kind of came out really bad since i didn’t have a lighter brown to use on her. it definitely would’ve looked a lot better if i had more color. the background is all green because of the grass and i didn’t have a darker green to create the shadows. i think i got her outfit down pretty well though.

i think this just shows that some things we may see on social media could be just really well edited photos to the point where you wouldn’t even notice it. not everything you see on the internet is real since anyone could edit their photos to the best of their ability. it kind of messes with the authenticity of everybody but we all want to look our best on social media and it’s completely understandable.

for assignment 3 i took inspiration from tyler and aj’s photos but put my own little twist on it. it kind of relates to my assignment from last week where the shark is in space but this time it’s an astronaut controlling a spaceship that’s built like a person rocketing out to space (which is the blue and green complimentary colors). i tried to make the middle piece of the rocket ship as a company name being “I need my space.”

for assignment #2, the character i made was a shark astronaut floating in space. for the background, the complimentary colors i chose were yellow and purple and i think it really fit the concept of the drawing; purple being space and the darkness, and yellow being the planets and the brightness. i put a few related stickers around him and i forgot that shark doesn’t have legs and i should’ve gave him a tail instead :( i feel like everything goes together very well though.

the album i chose was “Rodeo” by Travis Scott. my friend put me on to this album in 2016 and it just brings back a lot of memories. the picture wasn’t meant to be zoomed in like i drew it but i think it resembles me standing on a monster truck pretty well. i added blue to the white background because it is one of my favorite colors.
