Though now that her opponent had logged out and she was alone for the most part, she soon became aware of someone nearby. A glance over, and she blinked as she noticed Akira. “Oh, Brother. Were you watching the duel?”

“That’s the thing. The part of City where I’m from ain’t ‘high tech’ at all. In fact, we’re lucky if we even ended up with the basics.”

The Tops of Neo Domino City might’ve been, but the slums where Yugo had spent all of his days growing up? Food, water, and a place to sleep were all him and Rin could’ve ever hoped for. A Common’s life wasn’t easy, but that made seeing sights like these all that much more amusing!

“Will I just see ‘em though? Or will I actually get to eat off one of them? ‘Cause they look too cool for me to pass up!”

“Basics...?” Her first thought was toward electricity. But... the memories of her childhood were rising to the front of her mind. Because despite being in a ‘high-tech’ city like this, the city itself wasn’t kind to those unfortunate enough to have to live on the streets. 

“... Food, water, and shelter, then?” Another thought came to her mind then, and she gave a small frown. “As well as money... do you have any to pay for your meal?”

“Serving carts are not tables.” So no, the other can’t eat off them. “They will only bring you the food you ordered.”

“Yeah! In fact, you should totally see the place where I come from! It’s home, it definitely ain’t as high tech with all the fancy gadgets this city seems to be decked out with.” 

Den City seemed to have everything; way more than Yugo was used to seeing. From the cars to the street-side sweeping robots, he was beyond amused! 

“Hopefully this food place you’re takin’ me to is as up to date on all its tech as these streets are. ‘Cause I seriously go for something served outta those little motorized servin’ carts I saw back there.”

At this point, she was very well aware that any of her attempts at ending conversation would be ignored. A small sigh. “Is that so? How... ‘high tech’ is it, then?”

She had just assumed that the sights of Den City would be relatively similar elsewhere. Obviously, that line of thought was completely wrong. 

“Those serving carts are standard for restaurants, so you’ll likely see them at that restaurant.” Though was it really something that interested him that much? It was just a serving cart...

"Oops! So sorry. Did I hurt you?"

"I think they gave me your coffee by mistake."

"Your dress is beautiful."

"That is an adorable dog. What's their name?"

"Wow. What a jerk."

"I don't suppose you have a pen, do you?"

"Where did you get that coat? It's gorgeous."

"Is there a problem here?"

"Are you okay?"

"Did you loose a cat?"

"You left your bag behind."

"Sorry. I didn't mean to stare."

"You don't look good. Are you feeling okay?"

"It's raining and I don't have an umbrella."

"This is going to sound crazy but my car died and I need to call AAA but I left my phone at home. Can you call them for me?"

"You wouldn't happen to have seen a pair of sunglasses around, have you?"

"Have you been crying?"

"You look hungry, let's get you something to eat."

"I don't get modern art."

"I'm not sure it's a great idea to be in this neighborhood after dark."

"That smells amazing. What is it?"

"I have been trying to come up with a good opening line for a while and keep failing."

"Are you okay?"

"Is this your car? I'm afraid I nicked the door."

"Could you turn the music down?"

"Can you believe that asshole?"

"Sorry, let me move my stuff."

“I’m much less stressed than I was before.” Although it was difficult to deny that his wok at SOL could be exhausting and stressful at times, he would much prefer that than having to go back to living on the streets, having to live paycheck to paycheck.

“There’s no need for thanks.” He knew better than anyone the value of taking care of his health.  He didn’t want to be parted from his own family an earlier than he should be - trying to live and make each day count had always mattered most to him.  Besides, he didn’t like the idea of leaving his sister alone in the world.

“I don’t really, either.” He admitted, after a short pause.  “I suppose we could just try to find him some reasonably nice flowers though.  It’s the thought that counts.”

“That’s a relief.” A small one, given how much Akira still worked, but at least he wasn’t working as hard. He could even be home on a semi-regular basis, which was more than Aoi would have expected before.

A nod. Her brother had done so much for her when they were still out on the streets, it was only fair for her to return the favor in some way. If that meant keeping watch over his health in case he was working too hard, then she’ll gladly do it. 

“We could figure it out and find some together when that day comes, can’t we?” It’ll still be a while until then, so they had time.

Most people probably would’ve taken the others’ short answer as a hint to keep quiet, but not Yugo. Instead, he happily followed along behind the girl as he chirped at all the sights. “—It’s kinda nice!” 

“Back home could seriously take a few pointers from this place to use between the districts in City, that’s for sure. Especially with everyone around here being so ‘n all. It’s almost like paradise.” 

“If you think so.” She turned a corner, continuing to lead the other. The sights were something she was far too used to, so she didn’t really have an opinion on it in the end. Other than the fact that the lights can be seen at almost any time in the day. 

“Paradise...?” Having lived in the city all her life and not really having a good childhood here, she was a bit confused on the thought. Still, she nodded along, in an effort to hurry the conversation up.

  Ah- well it would be easy for her to direct Aoi to where that was, area’s like where they were now, she remembered very easily. “Well, I should show you then. Come on, follow me.” She said, leading her off towards their destination. 

  “You’re not going to meet a boy? What a shame, you’re awfully very pretty.” Another compliment added towards, “and you have quite a pretty name to match.” She winked playfully, walking off with Aoi beside her.

“Yes, thank you very much.” She followed after the other, taking note of the street names in case she found herself around here again in the future.

“Pretty? No, I’m rather plain, really.” In both looks and personality, unlike her LINK avatar, or so she believed. “Is that so? I think that Akira is a nicer sounding name, though...”

“Perhaps that is part of what makes Pokemon so appealing to people, though.  There are so many factors when it comes to Pokemon - not even just the species themselves.  The way they live with people, how people treat them, the environment they’re raised in.”

He eyed each of the Pokemon with a curious look as they were gradually released from their Pokeballs.  Judging a Pokemon by appearance alone was a difficult thing to do, but if he had to guess then he assumed that she’d probably assembled quite a unique team for herself.

“Would you mind introducing me to your team here…? They seem like a rather reliable group.”

“That’s true... two Bulbasaurs would have very different personalities, and may also appeal to two very different trainers.” And it’s not just how they were raised, too. Every one of their moves and abilities could be different as well. There were so many possibilities out there, she really didn’t think she could think of all of them.

“Ah, yes. You already know Eevee. She’s been a popular hit in cute contests.” She went on to tell Akira about each of her Pokemon, about how they’re like and what sort of place they have in her team. 

“They’re the best Pokemon I could ask for. I can’t really imagine another Pokemon taking any of their places here.”

“A pleasure to meet you, Miss Aoi,” Mana fondly smiled. “But yes, where I’m from, we duel the old fashioned way. Old-school Duel Discs and everything! Heck, some people still play on tabletop. I’ve seen some of the older crowd with cards so worn, I doubt any Duel Disc could read them now.”

“I like the virtual cards as much as the next person, but… there’s something about physical cards that just seems so…. appropriate, at least to me,” the new student further explained. “I even have a trade binder still, though I doubt anyone trades these days. They just either buy the cards or download them…”

“Old-school...?” So... like the Duel Disks that Playmaker and Fujiki had? And tabletop... some in the Duel Club preferred that, but it’s not that common compared to the popularity of LINK VRAINS. “That sounds interesting. Most of the duels here are online.”

“I suppose it’s just a matter of preference. Digital cards can’t accidentally be lost, unless they get corrupted.” Trade binders were still around there? “They still trade, I think. But almost everything happens online here, including trades.”

“Old habits, I suppose.” He was tempted to add that they had also been safe before their parents had died but perhaps he was better off keeping that to himself.  This time was different - then, they were children completely unprepared for the adult world - if worse came to worse then he knew what he had to do.

“Still, I’ll try to look for some other ways to relax.” He didn’t want Aoi worrying over his health - even though he wasn’t sure if this was a promise that he could keep.  His job had kept him busier than ever lately.

“Perhaps we can even stop and get some flowers for his grave, just as we did for mother.”

“Still, it’s best if you still make sure you’re not too stressed...” Aoi would love to find a way to help him. But unfortunately, she wouldn’t be able to get a job for herself until she finished high school. All she could do right now was help make sure LINK VRAINS isn’t in danger. 

“... Yes, thank you.” As long as her brother tried to find a way to relax, she would be satisfied. If he couldn’t... that would be unfortunate, but she knew that his job kept him very busy. 

“Oh, we can. I don’t remember much about his taste in flowers, however...”
