When a stoic or defiant Whumpee finally opens up after rescue or a long recovery time.
They were used to keep up a strong facade, to never show weakness as weakness would only get them hurt more.
But they finally trust caretaker to be gentle with their emotions. They are scared and ashamed, but for the first time in their life they allow themself to break down with another person present.
Caretaker takes them into their arms, offering silent comfort. Ignoring the falling tears and talking about whatever Whumpee indicates they want right now.
And nothing is more heartbreaking than hearing a person cry, really cry, for the first time. It has something animalistic with a stoic Whumpee.

observation: among a certain subset of tumblr users, the term “blorbo” has become unchic, but the concept it describes is still important; and so it has been replaced with “The Character”

Love love LOVE when a Whumpee is restrained but still tries to fight back.
Their feet may be bound, but they WILL kick out towards Whumper.
Or! If Whumpee isn't tied down to anything, they can tackle Whumper.
Maybe they're handcuffed instead, and they use the chain to try to strangle Whumper.
Just. Restrained Whumpees who still try to fight back.

One massive, legitimate way to improve as a writer or artist or in any creative endeavor really, is to become absolutely obsessed with something and to allow yourself to be weird about it. Genuinely mean this btw.

Tied up
Tied so tightly that flesh bulges around the ropes
Bruises form under pressure. Even just a little too tight: within 5 minutes it starts hurting, within 15, it's time to start begging.
Victim escapes "mercifully" loose bindings, only to be recaptured, roughed up, and re-tied way too tightly
Tying a victim's hands around the back of the chair. If the chair gets kicked over, there's a good chance their arms break over the sides of the chair (or bruise horribly)
Removing ropes gingerly from around compressed, reddened flesh, revealing purple bruises in lines where it was tightest
Chafing, skin coming off with the rope when it's removed
fingers going blue and stiff under wrist ties

"It's me."
Two words. Two syllables. So simple but can carry so much weight.
-Whumpee is delirious from fever or being drugged and doesn't recognize their friend who's come to the rescue. Maybe they're fighting them, maybe they're just terrified, as carer repeats, "It's me!"
-Or whumpee is blindfolded and startles at their friend's touch, only relaxing at the familiar voice. "It's me."
-Whumpee is hiding or actively fighting off bad guys when their friend comes to the rescue. "Whoa, whoa! It's me!"
-Maybe it's a phone call with bad news. The person who answers doesn't need to even hear the call to know. They can tell by the shaking in the other person's voice. "Hey. It's...it's me."
-Or maybe it's the whumpee who's saying it. Someone they love has been brainwashed or otherwise altered. Whumpee is fighting for their life, but they don't want to hurt their loved one. So they take the hits. When they say it, it's a plea. "It's me. Please, it's me."
