Helen and Madeline both take the worlds longest showers/baths (for different reasons. Madeline is singing and running lines, Helen is lost in thought about her novel). There is never hot water left for the next person

But seriously I absolutely love this headcanon, thank you so much for sharing it, I fully agree with it!!

Helen gets her best ideas in the shower/bath and for that reason has a little pencil and a notebook right outside of the shower/bathtub. The paper is battered from all the water and no one except for Helen can make out what the random scribbles mean. When it’s too important and needs to be properly written down she’ll shout for Madeline who then has to come write it down for her. Mad will act annoyed, but loves it because she feels honoured that Hel trusts her so much with something that is this important to her, plus it’s something they get to do together.

Madeline almost doesn’t realise she’s doing it, it’s become such a habit at this point. It’s how she fully relaxes and when she’s really happy/relaxed she sings. Helen, who loves whenever Mad sings, is usually outside the bathroom door listening to her sing (if she’s not in there with her). She thinks she’s very sneaky but Madeline knows and picks her songs accordingly. Love songs when she’s feeling romantic, songs Helen can’t stand if they’re fighting, Helen’s favourite songs if they’ve both had a hard day.

Well hello there, my friend!! I do adore angst so thank you so much for the question! I love Madeline ‘mommy issues’ Ashton so much! See also: “probably hired extras, my mother did the same for my sweet 16” + her having a whole ass breakdown when compared to her mother.

Little mommy issues hc before we go to my favourite angsty one:

I think her mommy issues would stem from Madeline’s mother making sure Madeline truly believed that the only thing she had going for her was her looks. Mad’s mom was the one who pushed Madeline to go into showbusiness and always told her how lucky she was to have a pretty face. She was Madeline times two when it comes to caring about how others perceive her and obsession around beauty, not aging, and using your looks to get what you want. She rarely had anything kind to say to Mad and criticised every little thing she did. Nothing was ever good enough.

My favourite angsty hc would be my headcanon that a huge part of the reason why Madeline breaks down after the book launch is the fact that Helen seems to be doing absolutely fine, no actually, better without her, when her life went completely down the drain and only got worse after Helen left. Which sends her spiralling because she needs Helen to need her, to want her, to love or to hate her, it doesn’t matter but she needs her to obsess over Madeline because Madeline herself is so incredibly obsessed with Helen.

It reminds her so much of her finding out Helen was engaged the same night she planned to admit her feelings to Helen (after her show). It’s another reminder that Hel can live, thrive, without her when she falls apart when Helen is not around.

Madeline has never had to deal with unrequited feelings, everyone has always wanted her (up until she started visibly aging) and now the only woman she really wants, has once again rejected her, is once again showing her that she is better of without her, and that is the last straw.

Like sure her breakdown is partly caused by losing the one thing she thought she had (her prettiness) and by wanting to do better than Hel and wanting to make her jealous but now no longer being able to do so. However I think another huge chunk of it is caused by her having her confirmation that Helen truly is happier without her, that she doesn’t need her, and that is devastating because she knows that for her life without Hel is so much worse, the last 10 years are proof of that.
