This fandom has been a great source of joy for me. It came into my life when I was poorly with my back and I have made so many friends here.

It revived my creativity, gave me something to do when I was bored and in pain, and has made me laugh more often than not with everyone's sense of humour. Not to mention the big guy himself who inspires us all. One of my favourite things is when we all collectively lose our shit when new pics and trailers drop. It's fantastic! 🤭

But I can't deny that I, like so many others, have received their fair share of unwarranted hate and abuse, simply for doing something we love - creating art.

It hurts my heart so much to see so many creative, talented, and truly kind and wonderful people reduced to packing up and leaving Tumblr, myself included. All because some people think it's big and clever to bully, dictate, vaguepost, demand and steal from them - all under Pedro's name. The man would be disgusted.

This is fanfiction, people. 🙄

We're not taking ourselves seriously. We're ordinary people sat behind screens writing our silly little stories and having a silly little time together. I'm old enough to remember fanfiction in the early days and it was never like this. The vitriol, immaturity and cruelty of some of you is dispicable.

Part of me wants to dig my heels in and say "fuck you" and build my account back again... just out of spite.

So, I guess that's what I'm going to do.

i have never been the kind of person to shame someone for their ships unless it was like illegal or just genuinely weird, but ever since I watched gran turismo back in August, I always found it incredibly fucking odd that people think Jann (a 19 year old played by Archie Madekwe) and Jack (the old ass 50 yr old mf played by David Harbour) had some kind of romantic chemistry...

Jann (the character) is based off the actual motorsports racer Jann Mardenborough, and the entire movie is based on a true story. I understand that in the movie that they're characters and they're mostly fictional, but do y'all ever get tired of shipping teenagers (idgaf that hes technically an adult, 19 is still a teenager) and grown ass people (40+)???

as somebody who likes reading age gaps where it's like 10 years, I see where you guys are coming from ig, but the age gap is always like character in mid twenties x character in late thirties. that's not even my point tho!! its that jack is meant to be seen as a mentor to jann, not a boyfriend or whatever y'all got pictured in your heads when you think of them

Google Maps is worse than useless - actively harmful

Hard to overstate how enshittified and botshitted Google Maps has become. Went looking for my local locksmith on Gmaps. Maps shows 20+ fake locksmith referral scam outlets and doesn't even register the real locksmith, despite it being fully visible in Street View.

Instead, a red pin on the shop identifies it as a fake locksmith scammer. The real locksmith - which has been there SINCE 1942 (!!) and is a verified merchant - doesn't even show up.

Google has been promising to clean up locksmith scams since the early 2010s, and has completely failed. A company that can't figure this out - but still has $80b for a stock buyback! - does not deserve the 90% market share in search it spends $26b/year to maintain.

I came up with a new saying:

"You wouldn't bake a cat just because it jumped into the oven."

It means that just having a really, really good opportunity to do something awful is not an excuse to do it. That it isn't enough that you never go out of your way to do evil, you're also supposed to go out of your way to do the right thing, even in situations where the wrong thing to do would be extremely easy and profitable, and passively allowing it to happen would be easier than going out of your way to do better than that.
