I Went To Sweden For A Few Days
At the end of March, I ended up going to Stockholm, Sweden for a few days and this was somewhere where I had never been before. As a result of this, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Having said that, what I did know is that it was going to be fairly cold and that it was supposed to be expensive there. One of the reasons why I went there was to see a friend of mine called, Peter. On The Ground Once I arrived, I came to see how cold it really was, but what made it easier to handle was that it wasn’t very windy. I hadn’t slept the night before as the flight was very early and this meant that I felt like a zombie when I got there. Part of me wanted to explore the city and another part of me wanted to sleep, yet I knew that if I didn’t have an early night I would be tired for the rest of the trip. So, I ended up going to bed early and waking up early the next day. A Moment of Inspiration When I was walking around the city the next day, I thought it would be a good idea for me to do a bit of filming. I thought that I could then share where I had been with my friends and the people who view my work online. After this, I ended up looking around the houses of parliament, the palace, and the old town, among other things. I had arranged to meet my friend towards the end of the day, so I was looking forward to see him again after so many years had passed. A Different Culture While I was at my friends place, his wife spoke about some of the things that are different about Sweden. Firstly, she said that people are generally not big on eye contact, and that looking at people can be seen as being rude. In addition to this, she said that people are more introverted there and that it was very different to America in this regard. When I went shopping with Peter for food, the prices didn’t seem very different to what things cost in a supermarket in England. Pros and Cons One thing that Sweden does have is high quality drinking water, and this is partly due to the fact that there are so many lakes there. The downside is that income tax is very high, but I guess that a lot of people believe that they get a lot in return. At the end of my time there, I met a woman who said some interesting things about what it is like when it comes to dating in Sweden. She said that women were the ones who did the pursuing in bars or clubs, not men. My Thoughts I’m not sure how true this is as I didn’t speak to anyone else about this and I didn’t go out in the evening while I was there. A lot of the women did seem to be fairly masculine, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this was something that took place in these kinds of environments. As for what was said about eye contact, I would say that it was no different to what it is like in England. Some people are comfortable with eye contact, while some people are not comfortable with it. An Enjoyable Trip Overall I had a good time there and I would be happy to go there again as soon as it gets a bit warmer. A lot has been said about the crime in Sweden, but Stockholm seemed to be fine. If you like old buildings, boat trips, finding out about what took place in the past and you don’t mind the cold, there is the chance that you would enjoy Stockholm.

I Wanted To Embrace The Swedish Culture
Once I knew that I would be going to Sweden, Stockholm, I started to think about what it would be like. Going away didn’t consume my mind, though, as I was engaged with what was taking place in my life. I wanted to go away, no doubt about it; but I wasn’t in a position where I needed to get away. What I was doing was fulfilling and this stopped me from getting too caught up in what I would be doing whilst I was away. A Different Climate What was different about this trip was that I would be going somewhere that was cold, and this made a change. In the past, I had generally gone to countries that were warm and were only a few hours away. Yet, even though I was going somewhere cold and it would only take a few hours to get there, I thought that it would be unlike anywhere I had been before. So, when the time came for me to go away, I started to get excited. The First Signs On the plane, the safety video was in English and then it was followed up in Norwegian, due to the airline that I was flying with. But even though I wasn’t going Norway, this made it even clearer that I was going away. Soon after this, I landed in Stockholm and when I got off the plane, heard people talking in another language. It wasn’t until I got outside and was exposed to the cold temperature that I fully realised that I was in another country. Extremely Curious It was incredibly cold and, as I didn’t go to sleep the night before, I just wanted to go to sleep. Nevertheless, now that I was away I wanted to find out more about Sweden and to experience their way of life. The reason for this is that when I go away, I don’t expect to bring my way of life with me and to live how I would back home. I want to find out what is and what isn’t acceptable, what kind of food they eat, and to learn about their history, among other things. One Moment While I was walking around the city, I saw an advertisement that spoke about where I could find tapas to eat. Now, I have tried taps in the past and I enjoyed eating them, but I wasn’t in Sweden to eat tapas. Similarly, I didn’t go to there to eat McDonald’s or to have a coffee at Starbucks; I was there to experience the Swedish way of life. I thought about how there is a fine line between adding things to a culture and enriching it, and adding things and completely destroying a culture. No Different When it come to the main shopping area, for instance, I could have been anywhere in the world; it was no different to being in London or Australia. The same could be said for the hotel that I stayed in. After I started to walk around the old town I could see that I was somewhere different. This was a special place, and what helped was that I was with a friend from Sweden who could show me around. A Wonderful Time Seeing these buildings and finding out about the history of Stockholm, Sweden was thoroughly enjoyable. I even had the chance to write on the wall of a coffee shop – whoever goes there can leave a message or just write their name on the wall. I wanted to see the Viking burial ground and the 17-century ship, but I didn’t have time in the end. There is plenty to see and do here if you are looking for somewhere different to explore.

Looking For An Amazing Bus Tour? Factors You Ought To Consider
Bus tours can be some of the best, exciting and interesting in any given destination as long as you check the itineraries offered and make the right choice. They are called tours because they make it possible for you enjoy numerous areas and attractions all in a day. If you are limited on time yet you want to enjoy some of the best things in a given place, then you can never go wrong with the right bus day trips. You just need to check the following factors when choosing an itinerary that suits you. Timing What you need to remember is that the bus tours operate at scheduled times which means you need to be ready for pick up at given times. Apart from arriving on time to pick you up a good company could offer to come right to your accommodation facility to pick you up rather than creating a terminal for everyone. Determine what works best for your convenience when choosing among the tours. Drop-offs should be just as suitable. On board snacks and drinks Some tours can be quite long depending on the areas they are designed to cover in a day. Because you may not have the luxury to keep stopping to snack or eat because of the time schedules, it is important to consider what is offered on board so you can pack anything else as you deem fit. Some companies offer complimentary morning snacks, sandwiches and even water at no extra cost. The more you know the better prepared you will be for your day tour. Sight stops When it comes to bus tours, you are likely to stop at some sights and check others out from the bus. Find out about the sights you will be visiting and exactly at which ones you will be stopping for a little exploration and photo takes. This is important especially if you have target sights that you feel are a must visit during the tour. In case your favorite sights are not scheduled for a stop, you can make special requests if possible or choose a different itinerary that covers your preferred areas. Guides Experienced local guides make some of the best. This is because they are familiar with the localities and providing you with all information, stories and even interesting facts about the different spots comes easy. Also important to check is whether they are salaried or they rely on tips and commissions they get on the bus tour. Salaried guides are happier and interesting compared to commission based guides who might be more interested in taking you top optional sights at a fee. Bus condition It can determine how safe you remain during your tour. Competent tour companies have newer reliable busses that are well maintained for the tours for your safety. Every detail regarding the bus should impress you including the driver in charge. Check out the busses so you are confident about your tour experience.

Eateries of Turkey
Eateries of Turkey – A fabulous tradition Ever thought what makes Turkey so unique? It is that there is no need for you to order your entire meal at once. You have the chance to order two-three dishes and then see if you’d like to eat more. In the Turkish tradition, Turks usually prefer a rich breakfast which is a large continuation of the Ottoman cuisine. Every country is known to have its own picky delicacies that make them unique and drive people to come and try them. Here’s a list of few eateries of Turkey that complete the Turkish tradition. 1. Turkish Delight • The locals call this Lokum, is something you might have never tried before. • It is a combination of chopped dates, pistachios, hazelnuts which come in various colors and flavors to suit any taste bud. 2. Iskender Kebab • Do not leave Turkey without trying one of the best and the most popular dish of Turkey – Iskender Kebab. • It consists of thinly sliced lamb that is served with traditional Turkish bread, which is heavily topped with yogurt and butter. 3. It is taste scrumptious. 5. Mezze • You cannot probably leave any Turkish restaurant without being served Mezze. • It is a small selection of dishes that is served with drink, probably before or after a meal. • It merely consists of yogurt, herbs, hummus, vine leaves, meatballs, eggplant salad and white cheese. It is nothing, but eye-satisfying and mouth-wateringly delicious. 6. Shish Kebab • A classic meal, which could be found on the menus of any Turkish restaurant. • Served with a skewer (chicken, meat or beef) along with rice and french-fries and salad. • It may be just simple, but taste like heaven. 7. Gozleme • What’s a country without no fast food? Nothing. • Gozleme is probably the easiest fast food you’ll find across the country. • It is too similar to a crepe, is a flatbread which is filled with cheese, meat, vegetables and potatoes. Something, you will surely not regret. 8. Kumpir (The carb loaded goodness) • For all the potato lovers, Kumpir is a freshly baked potato dish. You might have tried many baked potato dishes but this one’s epic. • It is mixed with a pile of cheese and butter. You also have various options to have it with yogurt, ketchup, sweetcorn or sausages, olives or Italian salads – just to name a few. 9. Turkish Apple Tea • A tea that will tickle your taste buds forever. • Luckily, there is no shortage of this sweet nectar and is available in every Turk café, restaurant or any Turks house you visit. It is a part of the Turkish tradition. 10. Dondurma • The Turkish Ice Cream which looks like a normal ice cream and may even taste like a normal one, but isn’t it normal. • A bizarre texture of an ice cream which doesn’t melt is what makes this ice cream unique with an impact of chewiness. • If this doesn’t impress you, then the Dondurma vendors are known to put up spectacular shows, while playing with the ice cream scoops and luring the customers. 11. Simit • A popular Turkish street food that is a fusion of a pretzel and a bagel. • The cheapest snack you’ll find on Turk streets and can be eaten. • Typically, a bread that is encrusted with sesame seeds and can be eaten either plain or with jams, cheese or Nutella. 12. Etli Ekmek • No, you don’t have to imagine life without pizzas in Turkey. If you’re a pizza lover, Turkey is sorted. • Etli Ekmek is a pizza dish that is originated from a town called Konya. • An extremely long flat sliced bread topped with meat and cheese and toppings is what sums up Etli Ekmek or The Turkish Pizza.

Safety Tips to Keep in Mind While Riding in a Taxi
The cab services have made our lives so easy. Just book a cab online and it will come to pick you up in a jiffy and that too at your doorstep. Now, you don’t have to go in person to the taxi stand and bargain with the drivers with all the luggage on. The process now has become just so hassle free these days. But, as the convenience is there, similarly some risk is also there. Be it a man or a woman there is always a little bit of risk of danger while travelling in the taxi. Though the technology now is very advanced, the location of the taxi can be easily tracked at the time of an emergency, but doing a little bit on your part is not at all harmful. Here are a few points to keep in mind while travelling in the taxi. 1. Avoid taxis on the isolated roads. 2. Always be cautious while speaking out your destination address to the taxi driver as it can be overheard by the people around you. 3. Carefully identify the taxi and the number that you booked. 4. Do share the details of the driver and the taxi at least with one of your dear ones. 5. Don’t open your purse or other things while in the cab. As there are chances of you forgetting something while getting out. 6. Never take a nap in the taxi. Stay awake and have a look at the direction to check if it is the right way or not. 7. Keep the fare amount ready in hand. This helps in avoiding the chances of giving extra money at the moment of rush. 8. If the driver makes you feel uncomfortable, select another taxi. 9. Do not talk anything personal over the phone to anyone while you are in the taxi as you might leak out some information that would be a hint to the driver to harm you in any way. 10. Try avoiding any conversation with the driver as you might distract him while driving. 11. Be alert while in the sharing cab. Move out if you don’t feel comfortable. 12. Sharing a cab is a way to save a little money, but do not forget the fact there will be a stranger with you and don’t know his intentions. 13. If you don’t want to reveal your home address, get off the cab few meters before your destination. 14. Keep your keys handy while getting out of the cab and get into your house immediately. Do not walk home alone in the dark after leaving taxi. 15. If you felt any problem or suspicious with the taxi or the driver, do not fear of telling it to the police as you may help to protect other people. Whether a person is a student, working or an elderly, he/she uses the taxi at some or the other point in life. And, as it is the best saying, “Prevention is better than cure”. Do take these preventive measures to reduce the risk on your part.

From a Church Bell to a Lighthouse (Point Wilson)
ON June 20, 1878 Congress appropriated $8.000 for a light and fog signal but only the fog signal was built as the money was not enough for both. On March 3, 1879 and additional $12,000 was allocated for the station. On September 1, 1879 a twelve-inch steam whistle which was installed inside a signal building was put into operation giving an eight-second blast every minute. In 1879 a lighthouse was built at a cost of $923 and a lens that had been used at Point Bonita, California was installed. The lighthouse was a twelve-foot-square tower which rose forty-six-feet from the roof of a two-story keeper’s dwelling. The fixed white light could be seen for up to thirteen miles. The mariners were much appreciative of the new light and fog signal and expressed their feelings on December 15,1879. In 1894 the light was changed from a fixed white to a fixed white with a red flash every twenty seconds. That same year a galvanized-iron oil house was constructed on the lighthouse grounds. The first keeper was David M Littlefield who was a local resident and a war veteran. He kept the lighthouse for a salary of $800 a year four years until he moved back to Port Townsend and served as a City Councilman and Collector of Customs. Believe it or not there was often a water shortage at the point. That is because Port Townsend sits in a rain shadow behind the Olympic Mountains and gets very little rainfall in the summer months. Water was needed to operate the steam whistle. It was collected in cement water sheds and stored in a brick cistern. ON September 29,1896 the steamer Umatilla left from Victoria British Columbia for Puget Sound. There was a dense fog and the signal at Point Wilson was not operating because of the lack of water. The 310-foot-long ship navigated by sounding its whistle often and listening for echoes in order to judge the distance to land. About a mile west of Point Wilson they struck rocks. Captain J. C. Hunter was able to get the steamer afloat again and decided to go on to Port Townsend. But the impact had put a hole in the hull and water started flooding in. Captain Hunter, realizing the danger he was in, purposefully ran the ship aground a few hundred yards from the Point Wilson Lighthouse. In order to hold the ship in place he lowered the bow anchors. The passengers were all safely unloaded but the boat had about $100,000 in damages. Captain Hunter and his pilot were cited for “overconfidence”. In 1917 during World War I all lighthouse keepers were urged to raise their own vegetables in anticipation of food shortages. Lighthouse keeper William Thomas agreed and after harvest he sent the following letter to the lighthouse inspector. “Sir: Have sent you to-day per parcel post a sample of some of the vegetables I raised on the station here. Peas, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, garlic, and squash do well, but tomatoes, cabbage, and turnips are a failure; beans fairly well after planting four times; have 4 gallons of beans salted and 2 gallons canned. The yield was good, but of course of small quantity, as space was limited. Early onions and lettuce were splendid; gave Heather (the lighthouse tender) some for their mess.” Keeper Thomas received commendations for his efforts at gardening. A photograph showing a potato, parsnip, carrot, and garlic bulb which he harvested from the sandy soil is displayed in the National Archives. It was April 1, 1921, during keeper Thomas’ stint as keeper, that he heard a terrible grinding noise and knew it was trouble. He phoned Port Townsend for help. The noise he had heard was that of the loaded passenger liner Governor of the Admiralty Line slamming into the freighter West Hartland. The 417 foot passenger liner was bound for Seattle from Victoria. It was hit by the freighter as it was rounding Port Townsend. During World War II the light at Point Wilson was extinguished in order to protect Fort Worden and the entrance to Puget Sound. Later accident reports concluded that the pilot on the governor failed to yield the right-of-way because he thought the running lights on the freighter were the fixed lights of Marrowstone Point. The collision tore a ten-foot gash in the Governor’s hull. The captain of the West Hartland order full speed ahead to keep the hold plugged but to no avail. The Governor began to sink in 240 feet of water while all but eight of its passengers were able to scramble aboard the freighter. The following account of the accident was provided by Lighthouse keeper Thomas: “It was just 12:05 this morning when I heard the crash. As I turned in the direction of the sound, I saw the West Hartland with her nose rammed into the Governor’s starboard side amidships. It was clear and the vessels were plainly in sight about three quarters of a mile away. I immediately called Port Townsend and tried to get the coast guard cutters, Arcata and Snohomish. Both were out of port. I finally got several launches out. I could see the boats putting out, and it wasn’t more than an hour before the Governor sank.” The light at point Wilson was automated in 1976 and is monitored today by a computer at the Coast Guard Air Station at Port Angeles. The Point Wilson Light is an active aid to navigation located in Fort Worden State Park near Port Townsend, Jefferson County, Washington. Wikipedia Address: 200 Battery Way, Port Townsend, WA 98368 Height: 46′ Opened: 1879 Phone: (360) 344-4412 Construction: Concrete

7 Tips For Renting A Party Bus
So, are you looking for a party bus? If you are on this page, chances are that you don’t know how to rent one. The tips given below can make it easier for you. You need to consider a lot of things before you choose one. If you are going to hire a party bus for the first time, you may be a bit worried. However, by following the advice given in this article, you can make the best choice. Read on to know more. 1. Plan in Advance Party buses are quite popular in the here and now. If you going to attend a public event, such as a concert or sports event, you won’t be the only one looking for a bus. Therefore, it’s important that you book a vehicle in advance. Ideally, you may want to book the bus at least two weeks before the big day. 2. Opt for the right Vehicle The first thing that you need to consider is the number of people who are going to attend the event. This is really important as you don’t need a vehicle that can’t accommodate all the people who want to go with you. Before you pick one, make sure count the heads. 3. Plan your Destination While this is obvious, make sure you plan your destination ahead of the day. You need to let your driver know about it. This will help the driver choose the best route so you can get to the destination as soon as possible. After all, you don’t have a lot of time to waste. 4. Figure out the total Cost Before you rent a bus, don’t forget to understand the hourly rate. Most people rent a vehicle as a group in order to divide the cost. Therefore, if you are the group leader, make sure you know the total cost. Once you have the figure, make sure you let everyone know about it. 5. Take beverages with you If your group consists of only adults, chances are that you are going to enjoy adult beverages as well. The Trials of Lighthouse Keeping
In 1792 Patos Island was named Isla de Patos (Island of Ducks), by Spanish Explorers Galiano and Bazan maybe because of the many ducks which inhabited the island. Interestingly, the island was a hiding place for smugglers due to its nearness to the Canadian border and its many trees and caves. The island’s first light was on Boundary Pass just opposite Canada’s Saturna Island. Patos Island is at the northern entrance to the Canal de Haro. This was a very dangerous passage because of strong currents and foggy weather. In March of 1891 Congress appropriated $12,000 to erect an aid to navigation which consisted of a double dwelling, fog signal building, water tanks and a post light at the western end of the island. The actual building was completed late in 1893. Thus there was a white light on the Canadian side of the channel and a red light on a ten foot tall white stake on Patos Island. By 1915 several improvements were made with the result of a new fog signal and a lighthouse with a fresnel lens. Harry Mahler was paid $700 per year as head keeper and Edward Durgan received $500 per year as assistant keeper. After serving as lighthouse keeper at several different locations on the West Coast Durgan returned in 1905 to Patos Island as the head light keeper. He arrived at at Patos with wife Estelle and their thirteen children where he became very well-known. Even though it had a mild climate, Patos Island was very isolated. The Durgan family would travel twenty-six water miles once a month to Bellingham, Washington for supplies. Their nearest neighbor was Saturna Island in Canada which was just over three miles away by water. Seven of the children came down with smallpox and keeper Durgan, in order to signal for help flew the lighthouse flag upside down. Eventually help did come but one account says that three of the children died. While another account was that one child succumbed. A third accounting states that the child who died likely died of appendicitis, not smallpox Helene Durgan Glidden, one of the surviving children later wrote a memoir titled “The Light on the Island”. In this writing she told of her talks with God, how she played with her pet cow and wandered the shores of the island which she called “the petticoats” of Patos Island. George Loholt replaced Durgan as headkeeper with Mary Durgan’s husband, Noah Clark, staying on as assistant keeper. Trips over the rough waters for visiting or shopping were dangerous. In 1911 Noah Clark motored to Blaine,Washington to pick up his wife, Mary and their young son who had been visiting the Durgans. On their return trip the boat’s motor failed as it was nearing Patos Island. The boat started filling with water and Clark jumped overboard for help to save his family and he was never seen again. His family, after drifting in the water all night, eventually crawled on top of the cabin when the boat filled with water. Fortunately they were rescued after grounding onto a shoal. In August 1912, a distress signal was coming from Patos Island. Captain Newcombe of the Canadian fishery protection tug noticed the signal and stopped at the island to investigate. The assistant lighthouse keeper, William Stark, told the captain that Keeper Loholt was exhibiting signs of insanity. That Loholt had left the station in a boat two days earlier without any explanation leaving Stark to carry out all the duties alone. Captain Newcombe notified the lighthouse inspector in Portland, who proceeded to Patos Island. Inspector Beck arrived at Patos and discovered that the two men had been fighting and that one had threatened to kill the other and drove him from the island. Ultimately the assistant was suspended and Keeper Loholt continued on as head lighthouse keeper for another ten years or more. During which time he rendered assistance to several vessels in distress. Those accounts were mentioned in the Annual Report of the Commissioner of Lighthouses. Telephone service came to the island in 1919 and took care of much of the communication issue. The lighthouse is now part of Patos Island State Park and has been restored and is being cared for by a group of selfless volunteers. The lighthouse can be visited by boat from either Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor. In recent years there are docents to open the lighthouse to visitors during the summer months. The lighthouse is owned by the Bureau of Land Management. Grounds.open, lighthouse closed The lighthouse is best visited by boat. Roche Harbor or Friday Harbor on San Juan Island are two of the closest harbors to Patos Island Lighthouse. Keepers of the Patos Light have had docents on the island in recent years to open the lighthouse to visitors during the summer months. Orcas Island Eclipse Charters has offered Lighthouse Tours in the past that pass by Patos Island. Outer Island Excursions offers trips to Patos Island that include a hike to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is owned by the Bureau of Land Management. Grounds.open, lighthouse closed

There are many different things that can be considered to create the happy, relaxed and friendly atmosphere for the duration of a trip. Let’s take a look at a few of the important things: Personality A great place to start in the search for a travel buddy is to find someone with the same or similar type of personality. Whether you are the relaxed type or those that are constantly on the go and energetic, you will find it benefits to travel with the like-minded companion. Also, the type of activities in the travel plan can influence the travel buddy. Additionally, it is important to make sure the travel itinerary is able to complement both parties. It will certainly help if the personalities match in this area because a happy-go-lucky person and an organization junkie may have difficulty getting along. Budget Many travelers prefer to stay in a decent hotel on their travels and eat at restaurants in the evenings, while others will have no issue with moving from one cheap guest house to the next and eating out or even enjoying the street food scene in certain countries. Instead of getting frustrated with a travel buddy about the cost of travel, it will benefit to have a proper conversation in order to come to a satisfactory agreement before getting on the road. Shared interests It will certainly help to travel with a travel buddy that has shared interests if you want to avoid long periods of awkward silence. The ability to keep a conversation going will be very difficult if both parties have completely different interests. For this reason, you will find it benefits to travel with someone who shares one or more of your interests. Practice runs A great way to decide if a travel buddy is the right fit for a long trip is to take a practice run. This can simply involve taking a short trip together for the day. It can help to travel to a completely new place for both parties and see if you can both agree on things like finding a preferred restaurant, activities, transportation, etc. It may be necessary to compromise at times, but the all-round experience should still be fun and enjoyable. Overall, it can take time to find the travel buddy that matches the personality, so the entire process should be carefully planned to minimize issues when traveling.
