Miles Edgeworth (Canonically) Needs a Hug

I've been reading a lot of Narumitsu fic lately (love y'all!) and it's interesting to me how many people write Miles as the more physically experienced and/or sexually dominant partner. I'll read it and enjoy it, but for "canon-compliant-ish" purposes, I don't see their relationship that way at all.

I don't think either of them are exactly Casanovas (law school is not known for its copious free time), but Phoenix has had at least one prior relationship and is by far the more "popular" and outgoing of the two. He may have been hung up on Edgeworth, but I think it's plenty likely he had at least some physical experiences in his past.

Edgeworth on the other hand was raised under Von Karma's thumb, with brutal expectations of perfection and success. He closed his heart off to Phoenix, to the memory of his father, and to his one-time dream of being a defense attorney. He was completely, obsessively devoted to his career to the point that by AA1 everyone in his vicinity except Gumshoe either hates him or is afraid of him. His reputation precedes him starting in *college.* I don't think Miles had ever had anything resembling a relationship before Phoenix.

I also don't see him hooking up with many people, if at all. Maybe he tried it once or twice, but everything we see of early-game Edgeworth is a man who has no time for, or interest in, other people. He also seems likely to have enough self-hatred and/or disgust for mortal weakness that he probably hasn't bothered to explore his own desires in any meaningful way. He might not be a virgin, but all signs point to his experience being minimal at best.

To add to that, I think Miles absolutely has to be touch-starved as HELL. Again, a lot of writers seem to paint Phoenix as the clingy one--and I think he probably is--but I think Miles would be equally, pathetically clingy but worse at expressing that desire to Phoenix. He's canonically has an intense aversion to expressing his feelings or asking for help. He'll be longing for Phoenix to touch him but completely, pitifully unable to ask for it until they settle into their relationship a bit.

Even before they get together (whenever you headcanon that to be), Phoenix has a big group of friends that can and do provide meaningful emotional support. Maya, Pearls, Trucy, and even Larry being in his life means that he is getting hugged on the regular. Even Mia was probably a "good job, kid" -based hugger. But Miles? Are you going to tell me that Franziska is a hugger? Von Karma? Miles hasn't gotten a hug since he was like 8. Miles is going to cling to Phoenix's touch like a damn octopus. Phoenix is going to absently pet his hair at some point and Miles is going to *whimper* and then hide for three days. Somebody get this man a weighted blanket and a spa day.

To top it all off, there's his "uncomfortable" art where he hugs his arm. I'm sure he picked this up from Von Karma because Franziska does it too (even before she's shot), but still it...just makes me so soft? He hugs himself when he's nervous or uncomfortable, *especially* in situations where he is expressing his emotions, and *especially* especially around Phoenix. It's so sweet and sad and SOMEBODY HUG HIM RIGHT NOW.

In conclusion, this man is touch-starved your honor. He's not the one "in control" when it comes to his physical relationship with Phoenix. He's so tense that he needs someone to drive a steamroller across his back. If a certain defense attorney doesn't bend him over a desk and then hold him gently and give him loving little kisses and a nice massage afterward, he might literally perish.

To be clear, I don't think Phoenix is exactly a top either. I think their relationship is give and take. And I think Miles would eventually get comfortable enough to roleplay "smug and confident" in the bedroom. But inside, he both needs and wants Phoenix as badly as Phoenix wants him, and to me that's the beauty of their relationship. <3

My ideal ace attorney fancase would be an investigations style case that happens at a comic-con

Edgeworth is there for the steel samurai panels and someone is murdered because his life is an unmitigated disaster, so Edgeworth has to switch into prosecutor mode and solve the case!! He stays in cosplay though-- his suit is in the car and they locked down the building for the investigation so they won't let him leave to go get it

The best part though? No one will break character or take off their costume, so figuring out who is who is half the battle

Ugh I'm having art ADHD. I want to make art very badly--specifically something quick and fun--but the particulars are having a dirty fistfight in my brain.

Digital (more emotionally tiring) or traditional (have to clean off desk :c )?

Finish an old project or start a new one?

Something fandom-y or original?

Force myself to practice humans (augh) or revert to comfort zone?

...and after all this I'll probably just be tired and scroll on my phone until I fall asleep and get no art done at all. Boo.

My cousin saw a picture of Phoenix, Miles, and Maya together and said "love the insane range of time periods in the clothing we're seeing." I had to explain that the game is set in "modern" times but Maya is considered to dress weird in-game and Edgeworth is just like that lol.

ace attorney fans: what are some of the funniest ways your offline friends have reacted to seeing you play ace attorney?

mine are:

1. my partner at the time shouting "HE'S 23?!?!" and going through all 5 stages of grief upon learning that aa1 miles edgeworth is not, in fact, in his 40s

2. i showed my IRL bestie kristoph gavin and mentioned he was a villain. without skipping a beat they said "well of course he's a villain. he's blonde"

So like I'm not really interested in WC discourse, and I haven't read all the books in OotS/AVoS so I'm not the expert here, but:

Tigerheart/star is the leader of a non-ThunderClan clan, and therefore is contractually obligated to be at least a part-time villain in order for plot to happen (see Leafstar, Mistystar, Onestar, etc.). This does not make me like him less. If he does a warrior-cats war crime and becomes an asshole (Leopardstar, most previous SC leaders), I will reevaluate.

He only considered kicking out SkyClan when cats were starving, because Bramblestar is the worst and refused to compromise. He was still the only one willing to even give them a chance.

When shown proof that Juniperclaw, his nephew and deputy, was doing a bit of poisoning, he stripped him of his rank and would have punished him further had Juniperclaw not run away. I do not blame him for not immediately believing his trusted family member was trying to kill people.

Basically all warrior cats characters are a little bit terrible because the books are just not that well written. I love them, but they're written very quickly by multiple different people. On the whole, I like how THS is characterized and how he is proactive and thinks outside the box. He takes action in a way that is fun and refreshing to read about. He steals medicine for kittens when the other Clans refuse to share. He wants to invade other nations for their own good. He's a very naughty boy! Bad kitty! But he's fun to read about and a completely different kind of leader from any cat since Firestar in my opinion.

Lots of people love Blackstar and think he was a great leader, and he did just so much murdering you guys. Let people enjoy characters. They don't have to be morally perfect to be likeable.

I adore subtle confessions of love. That's why I like the idea of Phoenix and Miles never saying it explicitly - they say it in different ways. And it just fits their characterization better. After all, what's an 'I love you' to... "(...) But... A man appeared and stood fast against that selfish me. (...) No matter how desperate the situation... instead of giving up like most people, that man would hold strong with his undying faith. And then, before I knew it... I began to trust in that man as well." and also "The sight of that man still shines brilliantly in my eyes" (if only he said it to his face) With Phoenix - he's never quite as damning, he's more of an action guy, although I would like to unpack the following:

"It's because of you that I became one (a defense attorney), Edgeworth. Not that I have any regrets. I really don't." Yes, Phoenix. Even though becoming one definitely made you almost meet your end multiple times. Even though if you weren't in that courthouse, you wouldn't have met Dahlia. Even though Edgeworth tried to get you and Maya a death sentence. Even though Von Karma electrocuted you and Maya. Even though Edgeworth let you down by running away. Even though Maya was kidnapped in order to blackmail you. Every single one of your misfortunes is linked to you being a lawyer, and you don't regret it at all (no wonder he was hesitant about getting his badge back after AJ if you think about it... he may not regret what he's done already but he's definitely hesitant about what being a lawyer again will bring upon him - and don't you know it, he even gets blackmailed again, 2 more times). But he doesn't regret it at all, because he did accomplish his goal. He saved him, and everything he went through because of it was worth it to him. Every struggle, all the anguish. He doesn't regret it at all.

"Go to hell" is basic. "Hope your favourite anime movie sequel gets cancelled after seven years in production AND getting an animated teaser." is smart. It's possible. It's terrifying. It's happened.
