Many people have talked about fans' intitial adverse reaction to Wind Waker due to it not being 'as mature as Ocarina of Time' and the negative effect Nintendo's reaction to that loud but misguided criticism had on the Zelda franchise as a whole, but one detail they tend to omit is that Wind Waker's central theme is literally about the folly of clinging to the past and how not just accepting, but embracing change is the true path to the future.

Imagine being one of the people who worked on WW's story back in the day. Fans are complaining that your new game doesn't look like the old one before it's even released, and you've already addressed those sentiments in the very game they're whining about, but you kind of can't really say much about that.
