BESPCTACLE / ODA, JOSEPH .
❝ i’ve come bearing gifts from the precinct, mr. edgeworth. ❞ a soft tune his jest played, manila envelope handled with care is offered alongside the melody. smile is fleeting, but there nonetheless. from one law official to another, evidence for ongoing investigations is passed down. ❝ i know the other officers usually bring it to your office, but —– i needed some fresh air. ❞ ‘lest detective castellanos and officer kidman get on his case again after working overtime. ❝ it’s for that homicide case. you asked detective castellanos for the crime scene photos, right? ❞
“ SO I DID. BASED UPON THE RESPONSE I’D RECEIVED FROM HIM, THOUGH --. “ he’d been certain the good detective would have been happier to throw up a certain finger on his hand and call it a day, rather than concede and hand the documents over. of course ... that might’ve been in light of the way said documents were asked for, and in truth, it had been less that, more a firm order. ‘ you’ll give me the crime scene photos, and sooner, rather than later. ‘ no, he and detective castellanos weren’t exactly on the best terms. but they got the job done, at the end of the day, didn’t they? “ ... -- well, i suppose that’s neither here nor there, now. you have my thanks for delivering them to me, detective. although, i’ll admit that i can’t see how a trip from the precinct to the prosecutor’s office could be considered ‘ fresh air ‘. if you haven’t noticed, they’re just across the street from one another. “ is he being cheeky? he might be. but other than an arch of brow on his part, there’s no real acknowledgement of the fact. no, instead he rises from his seat behind his desk to come around and meet the detective properly.
“ but, i suspect you’ll just tell me i shouldn’t question so. “

i rewatched some aa trilogy walkthrough the other day and in bridge to turnabout when gumshoe first mentions godot to miles, miles thinks smthn along the lines of huh. who is that guy i'm gonna look into that so now i'm left wondering if u think he ever did that, following this?
knowing miles edgeworth? he absolutely did. especially given the circumstances / the context surrounding that conversation that he had with gumshoe. i had to look up a transcript because i’m admittedly still in the midst of replaying the second game of the trilogy, and so my memory of the exact details of the third game are a little foggy, to say the least! but when i was looking into the scene, i came across this part of the exchange, and it seemed to stand out to me especially:
edgeworth: ( if he’s [godot] so good, how have i never heard of him ...? ) is he the lead prosecutor on this case?gumshoe: you bet he is! after all, “you know who” [phoenix wright] is right in the middle of it. [...] for some reason, godot has really got it in for mr. wright!edgeworth: oh?gumshoe: yeah, he seems to have some kind of a grudge. [...] maybe he made fun of his mask or something.edgeworth: ( none of this is making sense. i’d better look into this ‘godot’ myself. )
there’s two things that strike me immediately about this. one, edgeworth is already leery of godot because of his so-called “esteem”. having been / being the high prosecutor with a pretty good record himself, to the point that he’s very much well-known in the legal world himself, it would probably stand to reason that he’d know a prosecutor leading a huge trial, with a record that probably rivals, or even goes beyond, his own, right? right. at least, to edgeworth, anyway. it seems like throughout the course of the ace attorney games, edgeworth has had at least some knowledge of the prosecutors that phoenix has had to face in court, even if that knowledge was minimal. and it kind of stands to reason. so to that end, it’d also stand to reason that he’s kind of “ > : / well I’ve Never Heard of Him “ about godot as well. not necessarily because he’s turning his nose down at him, but because it’s odd, for lack of a better word. at least, for someone in his position, and with his breadth of general knowledge of the prosecutor’s office.
two, the fact that this guy has a grudge against phoenix for seemingly no reason outside of “well maybe he made fun of his mask the one time, i don’t know sir” is, like. red flags everywhere, honestly. GJDSKLHGKDHG. NOT TO SAY THAt miles necessarily thinks phoenix is a bullseye for any and all danger, -- i mean, he well and truly does, but that’s beside the point -- but if the grudge was so substantial, even a man like the good ol’ detective would know the reasons behind it. gumshoe’s got a good ear for the gossip, and his nose’s always to the ground, sniffing around where it probably shouldn’t kldsgh. but there’s nothing outside of a guess, or the butt end of what was probably meant to be a joke. and among many things i feel like that unnerves him. probably also a huge motivator as to why he decided to investigate into godot’s history / profile, to be honest. edgeworth likes to seem aloof and like he doesn’t particularly care, but he's very emotional, and also he knows phoenix has trouble following him wherever he goes. so this somehow-great prosecutor showing up from nowhere, with a grudge, leading a case phoenix just so happens to be working as well? bad news. miles edgeworth is on the case.

“ WORRY NOT. I HAVEN’T COME EMPTY-HANDED. “ it hadn’t taken much to convince the inpatient nurse to allow him to sneak an outside treat into the clinic, either: a flash of the badge on the inside of his jacket, a solemn swear that he’d only the best of intentions, and perhaps, a bit of business. the latter’s a lie, though. it just made him seem less -- sentimental, soft-hearted, an otherwise steely older brother beside himself with inner turmoil. or a combo of all three. either way, the little takeaway carton he holds behind his back ( containing a slice of black forest cake, of course ) would surely sing a different tune once it was presented. “ -- and i hadn’t meant to interrupt your rest, either, for what that’s worth. “ / @vankarmas !

* TAKE THAT ! i said this earlier but i’m making it an official headcanon that miles edgeworth is, in fact, near-sighted. with age, and extensive documentation to read and reread and etc, it’s gotten vaguely worse, but overall, his sight isn’t as bad as it could be. it is bad enough that he does need some kind of corrective lens to see properly, though! typically, and especially during investigations and court proceedings and the like, he’ll sport contact lenses — but you’ll catch him wearing actual frames from time to time. a rarity, sure, but an occurrence nonetheless.

——— character question sheet
▌real name: miles edgeworth ▌/real/ name: miles edgeworth ▌single or taken: single ▌abilities or powers: logic; finger-wagging; witty retorts; making defense attorneys feel incredibly silly in court . ▌eye colour: grey ▌hair colour: grey ▌family members: gregory edgeworth, biological father ( deceased ); manfred von karma, adoptive father ( deceased depending on canon point ); franziska von karma, adoptive younger sister . ▌something they don’t like: emotional vulnerability; losing; deceit and / or dishonesty; the feeling of being helpless, or in a situation outside of one’s control; small enclosed spaces, such as elevators; earthquakes ( linked to phobia and moderate ptsd ); guns; any kind of brewed tea over ice ( because, why would you do that. ); has a love-hate relationship with the law . ▌hobbies/activities: reading; chess; catching up on steel samurai; tea-brewing, etc; walks along a quiet street; tbh work is his hobby/activity also so i mean . ▌ever hurt anyone before: physically? no. verbally? yyyyyyeah . ▌ever killed anyone before: no . ▌animal that represents them: some type of owl, or a raven . possibly a snake . ▌worst habits: brooding on past mistakes; “locking” certain emotional parts of himself away; not being totally honest with those he cares about; keeping people at an arm’s length, even when he doesn’t mean to . ▌role models: his deceased ( biological ) father, gregory edgeworth; to an extent, phoenix wright, his childhood friend and oftentimes courtroom rival . ▌sexual orientation: homosexual . ▌thoughts on marriage/kids: it’s not exactly on the top of his list . ▌fears: failure; falling back into old, underhanded ways; earthquakes; confined spaces, to a degree . ▌style preferences: elegant, dare i say ruffly. he prefers prim and proper over casual anyday. a very big fan of the suit and vest look. neat, tidy, in order, much like everything about him. ▌someone they love: his sister, franziska; his father, gregory edgeworth; his adoptive father, manfred von karma, but to an extent and in spite of all sound logic, according to him; some other people that’re near and dear to him, but that he would die before admitting to . ▌approach to friendships: he’s known to come off as very ... ... standoffish, though it’s not always intentional. rumors tend to fly around about him, most of them untrue, and so it gives most who meet him a bad impression of him to begin with. he can be cordial, but in the cold, acquaintance-and-little-more sense. it takes a lot to really dig your claws into him and get him to open up to the point of friendship . ▌thoughts on pie: he’s not a huge sweet-tooth. not surprising. ▌favourite drink: earl gray, hojicha. plain water. kombucha. dry red wines are a win in his book, too. ▌favourite place to spend time at: home, most likely, or a park or area of the city that’s not particularly loud, nor bustling. ▌swim in the lake or in the ocean: lake. ▌their type: hardworking, sincere. someone who can draw emotion from him and make him feel less insecure about it. someone with a strong sense of right and wrong, and whom he knows would never stray from the “right path”, as it were. must also love dogs. ▌camping or indoors: indoors.

“ YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS, WRIGHT. “ though the look in the attorney’s eye tells him a very different tale, and he finds that he’s immensely frustrated as a result. trust phoenix wright, of all men, to try and covertly consult his courtroom rival as to details on a case they were both working. edgeworth doesn’t know where he gets off! he does know, though, that the creases in his brow have only grown more prominent. “ ... unlike a certain detective we know, i’m afraid i won’t be so easily beguiled by your little redirects. you’ll have to do much better than that. “ / @azujaro !

“ OH.
