Steve lamacq, second bands, Listeners continue to share their examples of second bands, better than the first. Idles continue their reign as Lamacq Livener favourites. And there's a Thursday Headbanger from Helmet.
The show can be aimed at anyone, but if i had to say a category i would say listeners from the ages of 16-30, majority of social groups.
Task 3?:
There are many ways of splitting the audience into different categories some of which are; age, gender, socio-economic background, tastes/interests, ethnicity and lifestyle. But one of the main methods for classifying and targeting different audiences is by determining their social grade. there are 6 different social grades that can be given to someone, these are A, B, C1, C2, D and E. A is for the upper middle class, this grade/classes occupation can be higher managerial jobs, administrative jobs and professional jobs. B is for the middle class, this grade/classes occupation is intermediate managerial jobs. C1 is for the lower middle class, this grade/classes occupation is supervisory and clerical work. C2 is the skilled working class, this class represents skilled manual workers. D is for the working class, the social grade D is for semi and unskilled manual workers. E is the lowest grade and is for those at the lowest level of subsistence, this grade contains state pensioners, widows and the lowest grade workers.
The social grade system is a good way of determining radio target audience, but there are some drawbacks and limitations of this system, some of which are:
It classifies an entire household on the occupation and not a single individual.
It ignores groups such as wealthy people, whom of which do not work and it also ignores some groups of self employed people.
Finally it contains no information about the size or structure of the household.
These drawbacks and limitations do not render this system useless, this is because the system still gathers simple information that radio companies can use. There are also some alternatives some of which are; education, political leanings, family size, type of housing, behaviour, lifestyle and aspirations.
Another method of classifying audiences is the Young and Rubicam’s Cross Cultural Characterisation, this method originated from maslow’s hierarchy of needs study. Young and Rubicam have used this to create the “4Cs”, the 4Cs divides people into 7 types. The seven types are the Explorer, the Aspirer, the Succeeder, the Reformer, the Mainstream, the Struggler and the Resigned.
The explorers need is discovery, the explorer is also young in nature and the first to try out new ideas. The aspirers need is status, the aspirer is also materialistic and they are acquisitive people. The succeeders need is control, they also have strong goal orientation and they are very organised. The reformers need is enlightenment, they are anti-materialistic, intellectual, and socially aware. The mainstreamers need is security, a daily routine is fundamental they are also the mainstream of society. The strugglers need is escape, they are known for being victims, losers and wasters. the resigned have the need to survive, they are normally older people with unchanging values built up over time.

Multi-Camera Techniques
8/11/16 - ?/1/17
Blog style.
Reality competition television show (Britain’s Got Talent, X Factor)
• Mise-en-Scene – what's on the screen, what is in each scene?
3-4 massive X’s above the act, artist, 3-4 red buzzers (golden now added), 3-4 judges, crowd, side presenters for example; ant and dec...
• Opening titles, font, colours, music graphics what does it say to the audience.
The opening titles look very professional but have a smart casual feel about them which is why the show is aimed and basically everyone, the fonts used in both shows make everything seem serious like the voice over by the classic peter dickson who does the majority of voice overs for shows like these, he's also known as the voiceover man, the colours used in britians got talent and x factor arnt bright and vibrant as one would think, both shows share the same colour scheme of colours that make us british (red, blue, white), graphics?music?
• Discuss the set what again does it say about the type of show.
The set looks quite heavily built and would take a long time to assemble, this is why X factor and Britain's got talent do their auditions in big blocks for example, 3 blocks in cardiff and then 3 blocks in bristol.
• What kind of lighting is used does it change? What does it do to the mood: the lighting changes a lot throughout both shows, its most noticed when their reading out the results and there's quite a lot of suspense.
• How are people dressed
Smart casual but sometimes the female judges express through their weird choice of clothing that always seems to be talked about all over the papers the next day, the guys normally wear suits.
• What sort of props
Big desks (to show importance), red buttons (to sort of show a goal).
• Types of shots sizes, movement edit style (why used and what's the effect)
Judge shot: this is to show the viewers how the judges are feeling whilst watching the act/artist so the editors can then make people at home feel like they can relate to the judges because they both feel the same even though that very shot could have been taken from somewhere else, this technique doesn't really work live.
Crowd shot/sweep:
Backstage shot: this is to show the viewers how important people backstage are and to show how much of a big deal the show is, and how much work behind the scenes is involved with the production of both programmes,
Ant and dec shot: this shot is mainly because everyone knows them and everyone can relate to them, so if an act/artist is really great/funny or amazing, the camera will look to them so they can then sell the act in their own way.
act/artist shot/sweep: this shot/sweep is mainly to just show viewers at home the act/artist in full detail and to make us feel like we are really there.
Chat Show ( Graham Norton Show, michael mcintyre chat show)
• Mise-en-Scene – what's on the screen, what is in each scene?
Graham nortons show normally starts off with him doing a short little skit in front of the live audience (lasts no longer than 30 seconds), the purple opening titles then start with the audience in the background cheering, the star on the newer title shoots of in all directions, graham can then be seen running up on stage with the audience still cheering, he then says welcome to everyone and what's in store for the show, he then says a couple jokes. The introduces the guest in the particular order one at a time, the guests sit around the red sofa and graham sits just to the left of them, the music artist stays behind stage until later.
• Opening titles, font, colours, music graphics what does it say to the audience.
The opening titles starts out with a purple background with mannequins falling upwards, a golden mask the emerges from the purple water, a tv with fire showing of the screen is then seen dropped into the water (later on they started to show the audience on the tv). Graham nortons head then appears from the water, when it gets to his mouth there is a shot change. A soldier figure is then seen falling into the water, then jewelry and a candle piece, graham then emerges more from the water past his shoulders. A rocking horse can be seen in the water, he then emerges more, a robot can be seen emerging too, graham is emerging but from the right side of the screen, laptops crash together in the water, lava lamp, graham is fully emerged now, close up on his face as he looks at the camera and raises his eyebrows, medium shot of his waist upwards, then finally a long shot of him standing there with his arms out. A golden star drops into purple water and the graham norton show title can be seen.
The two main colours used in the show are gold and purple, both colours represent royalty and wealth, purple can also meaning mystery, both these colours convey a very creative and rich feel which the majority of people can relate too.
The music in the titles suit the colour scheme of purple and gold very well, the music sounds mysterious, elegant, rich and fabulous.
Font; looks like a shiny comic sans.
• Discuss the set what again does it say about the type of show.
Graham norton show; The guests are sat together on the right, the host is just to the left of them on a different angle, there is no desk to show that no one has importance, everything is very casual.
Michael mcintyre; the show is more formal that graham norton's show, the host and guests wear suits, the host michael mcintyre is sat behind a desk to show importance,
• What kind of lighting is used does it change? What does it do to the mood:
Mainly purple lighting in the background, showing royalty,
• How are people dressed
Both shows are smart casual, but michael mcintyre's chat show is less casual.
• What sort of props
;sofa, desk, table, fruit, tv.
• Types of shots sizes, movement edit style (why used and what's the effect)
Within both shows; graham norton and michael mcintyre, there are many shots used they consist of;
host shot, just a shot of the host to conclude sequences, to start the show and to end the show, shows importance.
Guest shots are used to show who's talking and the other guests listening,
3 guest shot,
2 guest shot,
1 guest shot,
News 10 vs another:
• Mise-en-Scene – what's on the screen, what is in each scene?
A man which the presenter, a desk, a lot of screens playing footage in the background
• Opening titles, font, colours, music graphics what does it say to the audience.
• Discuss the set what again does it say about the type of show.
smart,,,,
• What kind of lighting is used does it change? What does it do to the mood:
Hi light on the presenter, normal lighting on the rest of the set,
• How are people dressed
Very smart wear, suits, blazers, ties.
• What sort of props
Desk, screens in the background.
• Types of shots sizes, movement edit style (why used and what's the effect)
