It was only when he saw a paper on the floor and he took a moment to notice it before frowing to himself. “Well that’s just great… I very much doubt Stefan and Damon are still around here now… Unless of course the school is theirs..” he questioned watching the building.

she’d been in meetings all morning, parents worried about their children given the state of things in mystic falls. you’d think parents of the supernatural wouldn’t be so affected by the dead coming back. spotting an unfamiliar face on campus, valerie made a slow approach. “damon has a house in town, and i hate to be the one to tell you, but stefan died about ten years ago.” even now, it was hard to hide the emotion in her voice. pain renewed by the child she carried once more. swallowing it down she took in the stranger’s features. “you look like them. a cousin returned from the grave, perhaps?”

The past comes calling eventually, although there’s been many times Bonnie has tried to avoid answering it. Ghosts become fluid. They linger, not fully dried out underneath whatever sunlight manages to kiss them. It had been too long since she’s had a full sleep. A dreamless slumber without anyone tapping against her bedroom’s window, begging to be remembered. Denial as a procession of parched mouths and nerves frayed. Like the dark alleyways of Mystic Falls, she has once again turned her back on the bar she’s heard Damon had opened. Instead, she opts for her old roots. The Grill isn’t crowded, but there’s a steady chatter and the clacking of pool balls hitting the sides of the pool table seemed the perfect background noise for her to sit and nurse whatever wound would first begin to ache. Her drink had just been refilled when there’s a sudden shift to the atmosphere. Not necessarily malicious, but certainly a solemn darkness. The face familiar and angled towards Bonnie in general. She raises a brow with dull curiosity, although knows better than to antagonize. ‘Lost?’ A vague direction of greeting, but she acknowledges the less than ideal history between them with a nod to the bartender. ‘Better make it two bourbons.’

she hadn’t gone looking for bonnie. hadn’t gone looking for anyone, really. the only person she had any interest in finding at the moment hadn’t yet returned. a fact revealed in her latest conversation with the eldest salvatore brother. her brow raised at the question offered up by the witch, a few steps brining her to stand behind the seat beside the other. “i’ve lived in this town for ten years now, bonnie. i think i know how to find my way around just find.” valerie made no move to sit, no indication she had any plans on joining her. “better keep it to one. i’ll settle for a vanilla coke instead. call it a cleanse.” there was nothing hostile in her tone, but there wasn’t anything inherently friendly to it either. after all, the two had never been friends, and that certainly wasn’t about to change in a conversation beginning with assumptions from the other.

       d a m o n is taking a sip from his freshly poured glass when she explains and  to his embarrassment he chokes. coughing at the burn, he wipes his mouth with the back of his hand. “ i think the song is baby got back, not the baby is back. “ is the first thing he thinks to say. “ are we talking baby from dirty dancing? cause i always did hate the sequel. “ he takes another sip of his drink and grimaces. a lost son and now a magical baby. what was up with his luck? “ how is this even possible? what would the kid even be? you may have been human back then but you definitely aren’t now. “

she does nothing to hide the short lived smile that resulted from his reaction. her first in what feels like weeks. two weeks if she were to be specific, ever since she first felt the child’s energy within her. ever since she stopped using magic out of fear of harming the baby. valerie ignored his jokes, acknowledging them as a form of coping with the news bomb she’d dropped on him. “i’m not sure. the baby was never born, i wouldn’t think it possible that it could return with the others, and yet...” she wasn’t about to question the miracle of a second chance she’d been given. “a witch or a siphoner, like the twins,” she answered, referring to lizzie and josie. “neither was caroline when she carried them.”

        OUCH. perhaps he deserved it but kai brushed it off, he had certainly been called out for worse. “ haven’t you heard ?? the dead are rising and apparently everyone’s pretty cool with it. ” he made a sweeping gesture to the party around them. it did seem odd to him that a town with a council once dedicated to eradicating vampires took the dead returning in such an easy stride. “ they’ll pop up eventually. obviously, no special exceptions are being made. ” if even kai was allowed to come back then no one was escaping another trip across the veil.

“not everyone. never everyone. after all the lives you’ve gotten to live, shouldn’t you be more aware of that reality than most?” in all the years she’d lived, that was the one truth that had always remained. you could never get everyone on the same side. “or this is all some elaborate plan of yours to continue being the absolute worst.” it would be parr for the course on his history. “which, if that is the case, leave me out of it and we can coexist just fine. i’ve got real issues to deal with.”

✧･ﾟ*✧･ﾟ she’s been admiring the gowns all night, some short , some long, most elaborate and flowing. amara watches from the corner, sipping one of the few non-alcoholic drinks they serve. she’s been slightly nauseous as of late - artemisia said it could be her body adjusting , a side effect of the resurrection. her wandering gaze pauses as it locks onto a stunning dress. “ you look so beautiful, “ she can’t help but compliment. “ i’ve never seen hair as red as yours. “

nearly two hundred years on this earth, and valerie was still hesitant to take a compliment at face value. still, she was polite enough to accept the kind words. “thanks, elena. you look stunning tonight, really.” the last word as an addition only to emphasize the honesty of her comment despite their complicated past. because why would she have any reason to suspect this might not be the doppleganger she knew?

     NOW there was a familiar face that might not entirely loathe him. technically, they had been allies for a brief time and during that period he was generous blood donor to that cult of hybrids. “ valerie, right ? ” he approached slowly in case she turned out be more foe than friend. it was unlikely kai would ever rid himself of the overwhelming paranoia and mistrust that plagued his being. being a former scheming mastermind made his thoughts wander to all sorts of dark plots and potential betrayals that could come from even the most seemingly innocent human or creature of the night. “ where’s the rest of the fam jam ? ”

she recognized the voice before she saw him, eyes rolling even as he approached. “ah yes, my favorite blood bag.” her tone had a hint of mocking to it, though more from mild irritation than anything else. she took a slow sip from her drink, non-alcoholic, watching him for a moment. “well they’re certainly not locked in a shipping container.” because she certainly wasn’t about to let him think she’d forgotten about that. she also wasn’t planning on elaborating much more than, “they’re dead. still. like i’d heard you were.”

the snark earned him an eye roll, arms crossed as valerie does her best not to let too much show on her face. perhaps she should’ve just gone to caroline about this. but that would mean revealing the truth to a woman she now considered a friend. a truth that might hurt the other, a result she no longer wished. “i’d love to tell you you’re wrong, but i’m not so certain i have a choice in that matter.” she took a breath, not letting herself think too much. she needed help, and unfortunately damon seemed the best option at the moment. “the baby is back.”
