#realmoodsketch A very belated (9 months late) entry for the #drawdonsfallchurch challenge from @the.curious.sketcher. Thank you Don, I love the autumn colours and the architecture of the church in Nottingham, New Hampshire The plumber returned to patch leaks. And I took half a day’s leave. The official excuse was to supervise. But I spent more time painting this piece then watch him repairing. The main differences between this and my previous pieces are: 1) no pen outline, except for signature and date; 2) only water colour paints without gouache or coloured pencils to layer over mistakes; 3) Upgraded the paper used, but still not the typical water colour papers (my daughter took a look and said “ this kind of paper, can meh? “ 😆😆) I lose quite a bit of the wonkiness when doing this piece because I was trying to remember the correct techniques for this medium. Not sure I want to do more though, given my general lack of patience for staring at paint drying. But I still have loads of materials. #realmoodsketch I thought getting an appointment to see the specialist was challenging. Now I know getting a plumber to come treat your piping problem is equally challenging. I also thought that while they were rectifying my problem, I could sneak in a little time to do some watercolours. They finished the job faster than the paint dried. So another day, another piece from my reserves. This one was done more than 20 years ago. Not a good painting (technique-wise) of my office table and view, but there are some interesting objects: A trophy showing my lucky day in a golf tournament, the old monitor that emits a high pitch sound, a Nokia mobile phone, lots of pencils in a cup with a sharpener near by, and a bottle of fountain pen ink. The last 2 items were there to feed my doodling habits. #realmoodsketch Some days back, I posted a #doodle I did during a 7 minute phone call. A bit further back, there was another phone call, and another doodle. But the call wasn’t long enough so all I had was an outline drawing. Today, I couldn’t find the reference image that I did this #sketch from. But I had a little time, so I blocked in some gouache paint, and touched up with #watercolourpencil . I have posted 3 versions : the outline pencil sketch, the completed painting with thin black ink outline, and another with thicker and sepia ink outline. If I recall correctly, the image was from a black and white photograph of folks having a game of mahjong with other onlookers. #realmoodsketch There is a first for everything - first time I am doing a challenge from @jennypenny_arts . First time I am doing a tug boat. And most challenging of all, I was painting based on the constantly repeating loop of the video posted. (thank you Jenny, for this new experience) This explains the abrupt changes (or incoherent) scene behind the tugboat. I also tried to put the gulls floating in the distance, and to make sure you don’t think these are floating debris, I added one taking off ahead of the boat. #drawjennystugboat So why did this took 2 days to do? I got carried away with the details. And my eyesight isn’t too good. It always felt like my glasses are foggy, and constant washing doesn’t help. The doctor said nothing wrong with my glasses (I passed the reading test) and I probably have a minor case of cataract. So I get lubricants for my eyes until the specialist appointment. Then it dawned upon me. #realmoodsketch My thanks to @the.curious.sketcher for this delicious and almost impossible (for me) to draw challenge #drawDonsSunsetGarden . I wanted to do this 2 weeks ago. Flowers and plants were my artistic Achilles heel and remained so. I deleted at least 6 versions. I was turning increasingly green as Hulk with each deletion. The 7th version became an umbrella (just like Don envisaged) with a chair and some foliage on the left side of the painting. For 10 days it remained that way. Yesterday, while reading an enlightening book (Titled Garden City), on extended loan to me by a dear friend, I got a renewed urge to return to complete this. I went about it with more vigour and pronto - The wonkiest home and garden (or may be the only one) that I have painted to date. Okay, you may have to stretch your imagination a bit to see the plants, the trees and the flowers. #realmoodsketch I posted left half of this piece that I had re-sketched and coloured from an old #fountainpensketch that I did in 2004. Then I was learning composition by looking at the work of true masters. I did a study of a piece “Finding Of Moses” by Antonio De Bellis, but in a more #cubist and #comic like form. I completed colouring the right side last night after getting into a rut and not being able to do any new pieces. Look and compare with the piece I posted yesterday, which was done in 2002. I scrolled back to photos of pieces I had done with real art materials a long long time ago. To get an idea how long ago, think Nokia phone.
