Master 1′s Hilt
This was the culmination of everything I wanted to learn this semester. The first one that I was able to conceptualize ended up being the hardest one to do and one of my favorite final renders. The Crystal at the pommel turned out great and the wrappings on the handle turned out great and the damage through out the hilt could have been better but were fun to figure out.

Master 3′s Hilt Complete
This one was both fun and difficult to figure out. Once I had the curved shape fall into place and i knew what design i was going to do it just took shape.

Master 2′s Hilt Complete
This one was a little more difficult than I expected it to be trying to match each side perfectly became a huge pain and much harder than I expected,

Masters 1, 2, and 3
With the semester coming to an end and everything needing to be turned in within the next couple weeks to a month I am working on the last 3 in tandem. If I give myself enough time and I have enough planned out everything should still fall into place allowing me to do everything I need to do.

Padawan 3 Hilt Complete
This one took a bit longer to finish and is probably the most complicated one I have completed so far. I learned a bunch of different shortcuts that helped take modeling time significantly allowing me to do new slightly more complicated things. Having some more ganging pieces and things were more involved but I am quite happy with how things turned out.

Padawan 2 Hilt Completion
My second hilt was finished within the allotted two weeks I set for myself, this one being slightly more complicated and involved than Padawan 1′s. This one being aggressive with claws on the emitter and smaller claws to be added to the pommel within time. I decided to add an activation box this time as a way to differentiate this hilt from the other designs I have done before. Like Padawan 1′s hilt there are some small things I need to refine but the overall design has been finished.

Padawan 1 Hilt Completion
Keeping on my designed schedule I took about two weeks to finish the overall design for the hilt of Padawan 1. It’s design was very simple and functional all based on the idea of allowing myself to get back into the swing of things and getting used to finishing a design within a time constraint. I do have some small things to fix and refine due to the design itself but the basic design is overall finished.

Possible Characters
Master 1:
· Species: Male Human
· Age: Old (70-80)
· Home Planet: Mandalore
· Lightsaber description: Very ancient design even being a cross-guard, never needed a replacement so is very worn and used. Has attached a kyber crystal to the end of his pommel, the crystal having once belonged to a Padawan he was very close with losing them while in an altercation with Mandalorians.
· Class: Consular (Green Crystal)
· Rank: Master
· Personality: Strict and very hard on his padawans. Believes heavily in both mind and physical strength thus pushes his padawans to the extreme in both. Hasn’t had the best track record with Padawans, one of them dying in a battle against some mandalorians. While another one ended up leaving the order because of their tense relationship. Only taking up another Padawan because the order is short on Masters due to the break out of the Clone Wars.
· Role in Clone Wars:
Padawan 1:
· Species: Female Human
· Age: 16
· Home Planet: Dantooine
· Lightsaber description: Having only been constructed a few years prior, her lightsaber is very new and still in pristine condition. A simple design but very functional.
· Class: Guardian (Blue Crystal)
· Rank: Padawan (Padawan of Master 1)
· Personality: Very kind and lighthearted, but quite quick to judge. Training hard and constantly trying to better herself, rising duelist and sharp mind for strategy. Master 1 pushing her to her limit everyday making them a pair to be reckoned with. Even if they don’t have the best social relationship with each other.
· Role in Clone Wars:
Master 2:
· Species: Female Mirialan
· Age: 30-40
· Home Planet: Mirial
· Lightsaber description: Double bladed, ornate, slightly more for show over anything else.
· Class: Sentinel (Yellow Crystal)
· Rank: Knight
· Personality: Is one to avoid any form of confrontation, leading her to be a sentinel and using a double-bladed light saber. Will always try to talk her way out of most situations, so much so that she is very proficient with mind affecting force abilities. Thus, utilizing the disorientation that a double-bladed lightsaber brings to finish any altercations as quickly as possible. Only took on her Padawan in the pursuit of becoming a Master so that she will in the field less.
· Role in Clone Wars:
Padawan 2:
· Species: Male Mirialan
· Age: 17
· Home Planet: Mirial
· Lightsaber description: Built specifically for battle, both dueling and blaster fire. Thrown on with a darker flare, reflecting this Padawan’s pull to his darker emotions.
· Class: Guardian (Purple Crystal)
· Rank: Padawan (Padawan to Master 2)
· Personality: Has a thirst for battle, both starting and finishing them. He loves to spar with anyone who will dare to challenge him. Has a knack for dueling but relies on quick and hard strikes over any finesse and true skill. Leading to a lot of contention between himself and his Master, proving to be an overall bad fit.
· Role in Clone Wars:
Master 3:
· Species: Female Tusken Raider
· Age: 45-50
· Home Planet: Tatooine
· Lightsaber description:
· Class: Consular (Green Crystal)
· Rank: Knight
· Personality: Is indifferent to cause of her Padawan, believing in the force and the galaxy guiding events and actions. However, she realizes many do not share this ideology and agrees that every Jedi must come to their own conclusions. With this in mind she indulges in her Padawan’s wishes to work almost exclusively in the outer rim, especially around slave planets deep in Hutt territory. Giving her Padawan every opportunity she can to become her own Jedi, secretly being very proud in her Padawan’s conviction and determination.
· Role in Clone Wars:
Padawan 3:
· Species: Female Twi’lek
· Age: 20
· Home Planet: Tatooine
· Lightsaber description:
· Class: Guardian (Blue Crystal)
· Rank: Padawan (Padawan to Master 3)
· Personality: Loving, loyal, and determined is a champion for the everyday person and those who cannot help themselves. Begging her Master to take any mission anywhere near the outer rim. Especially around planets with large slave trades. Being from a family of slaves herself, being a slave until she was found she decided to dedicate her position and power to help slaves whenever she can.
· Role in Clone Wars:

Semester 2 (MIN 452)
Deciding to take the second semester of the class I realized that I had stretched myself very thin last semester. So this semester I felt it best to go back to what I wanted originally and that was 3D modeling. Instead of writing a huge overarching story through multiple eras I came up with six original characters designed in such a way that I can make six different lightsaber hilts with varying levels of difficulty.

Texturing and Rendering
Unfortunately I do not have access to to Maya in order to get a picture of the initial texturing I will do my best to describe what I have done and provide pictures later. Working with my instructor I was able to use built in texture settings to add textures. Along the majority of the Hilt shaft I put a silver chrome finish, while the grip and the base of the activation button being a black plastic/rubber. Then the button itself is is a dark red plastic. The base I made for it was given a dark grey texture. I added an overhead Arnold light to build a sphere of light around the entire scene while adding a blank flooring under the base so the base and hilt are not floating in midair.
Maya’s built in Arnold rendering software will be used for the final render and will be worked out next. On another note I will be working on the final story threads as part of the final aspect of the project to be turned in. Hopefully I will be able to grab more pictures to post by tomorrow April 30th.

3D Lightsaber Model Progress

Beginning with a cube I have been able to come up with a design of a lightsaber I am happy with. Though I was not able to get concept art like I wanted I defaulted to what I am good at. That being modeling as I go, though I did base many of my aspects off of the lightsaber I like the most. The pomel is heavily based off of Obi-Wan’s lightsaber from Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. The grip was supposed to be Anakin’s grip from Revenge of the Sith but it ended up being more like Darth Vader’s grip with the soft long triangular prisms. the thin neck emitter is based on Obi-Wan’s Revenge of the Sith and Luke’s Return of the Jedi designs. However I tweaked the top part of the emitter into something I really liked. The activation button came from the simple on and off switch from Qui-Gon Jinn’s lightsaber in Phantom Menace as I am not a huge fan of the activation boxes that are on Luke’s, Anakin’s, and Obi-Wan’s lightsabers.
Though I am basing my lightsaber on a lot of existing hilts in cannon I also looked at from a practical sense. If I were to personally have a lightsaber what type of fighting style would I have and what designs would complement that style. Meaning I would need a simple design with the ability to be moved through the hands easily. Which is why i went with the activation button over the activation box. Hopefully I will be working on the texturing and modeling soon.

Star Wars Celebration 2019
Star Wars Celebration is a way for Lucasarts to promote upcoming movies and events that would be big for the franchise. The first taking place in 1999 as a way to promote the Phantom Menace. This is a tradition continued by Disney the last one being in 2017 for the release of the Last Jedi.
From April 11 - 15, 2019 another celebration has arrived of course pushing Episode 9, Jedi Fallen Order videogame, The Mandalorian, Clone Wars season 7, and the 20th anniversary of the Phantom Menace. The two big things for me is the trailer for Episode 9 and the trailer for Jedi Fallen Order. And so far I am happy to say that I was surprisingly impressed. I am skeptically optimistic for Episode 9 staying on the skeptical side. But I am happy to say I am happy with what I saw with Jedi Fallen Order. Though no gameplay was shown, the story looks good, and graphics are beautiful. EA has come out and said that there will be no micro transactions, just a deep single player game with a deep narrative. Though I personally still don’t trust EA they aren’t actually developing this game so I am again skeptically optimistic for this game. I probably will not preorder it, and may even wait a month or two to see how it really ends up playing out. Disney and EA may finally be listening to their fans and may be finally giving us what we want. But time can only tell.

Lightsaber Model News
Good News! Thanks to my class presentation I found someone who was willing to help me model my hilt without the art I wanted. Though he wont do it with me he sat down with me and helped me come up with a plan. His project also relies on a bit of 3-D modeling as he reverse engineers some Sonic the Hedgehog Characters. I now have the confidence I needed to start and hopefully complete this model.

Class Presentation Thoughts
With Spring Break having come and gone the next thing to worry about was my class presentation of my project thus far. Honestly it went about as well as I thought it would. All the non-Star Wars fans and non-gamers were pretty much lost but those who were especially gamers were all over it and a good discussion ensued. The main questions I had mainly revolved around my final 3-D model as a deliverable. I guess they didn’t really understand the explanation that I can’t draw, photoshop, or art in general but for some reason I can 3-D model very well. Other than that I got a pretty good reception people seeming to be intrigued by the thought of an expansive Star Wars game.
The main things I need to work on is starting my 3-D model and working on fleshing out the main story lines for each character. My main focus however is going to be on my 3-D model. As without an artist I have no choice but to kind of make it up as I go.

Changes in Emphasis
When I originally picked this project it was with the idea that it would play like the Classic Battlefront II but look like the new Battlefront. But it has kind of turned into a really good narrative based Star Wars game that might play closer to the original KOTOR’s and The Force Unleashed. At this point in the project the narrative is the most important part to me, figuring out a story that I feel is worthy of the Star Wars name. The graphics and all that can come together afterwards, that story is first. Which makes me think of which part of Disney Star Wars has disappointed me the most, and the story is it. The Force Awakens is fine, I have some major problems with it but in the end it is watchable to me, Rogue One is a lot of fun even if slightly redundant I will take that ending Vader scene all day long, but The Last Jedi was what broke my faith. The inconsistencies in lore and characters. It did not feel like a Star Wars movie to me, there was nothing about family or legacy. It was precisely the opposite saying that the past should be destroyed. Everything fans had found to be invested in thrown in the face and stomped on. Who is Snoke? whoops who cares he’s in pieces now. Who is Rey, where does she come from, why does she have this natural affinity to the force and powers? Who cares the force simply gave it to her, and she stole all of Kylo’s powers. Why was Luke on that island? Why did he leave a map right to him? Whoops who cares he’s sad and depressed because a moody teenager dropped a house on him. And who cares about the map because he was there to die and see the Jedi end.
Nothing about trying to reinstate the Jedi Order learning from the original’s mistakes. Nothing about this New Republic, that are really bad about doing its job seeing as the New Order came out of no where and literally took over the galaxy in seconds. They had no army, nothing to defend the galaxy. All they had were small rag tag forces left over from the Rebellion still under Leia. Why isn’t she a senator? Why isn’t she the Chancellor? She lead the Rebellion to victory against the Empire, she was there, she fought. She obviously inherited her mother’s affinity for forceful negotiations. But now she’s an old grumpy general of an underground, under funded, splintered force called the Resistance.
Rant aside, I still haven’t seen Solo. The only major theatrical Star Wars movie that I didn’t see.

Lightsaber Concept Problems
As it stands right now I am slightly behind when it comes to my concept. As I cannot draw I decided to try and find someone who would be willing to do a custom lightsaber drawing as photo realistic as possible. I did not want to simply start modeling as I have done in the past, I wanted to have a layout but have not been able to find someone to do that concept. Unfortunately I am behind in that aspect but everything else seems to be coming together. The narrative is where I want it to be. That outline is there and now I am ready to start narrow that down. The playthrough of KOTOR II is a little behind I think I still have about 5 or 6 hours left but I hope to have that done soon.
