Week 10
This week I am back in Atlanta doing jobs wherever they need me because half of our crew is still in Texas. The first of the week I installed thick cut sod at Atlanta United practice facility. We installed over areas that did not come back so well after they sprayed out the ryegrass. Then Tuesday and Wednesday I went to the old Braves stadium where I finished up a synthetic sub-grade for GSU new football field. Then the last days of the week I went to a kids atheistic field complex where we are starting to convert there baseball fields into football fields for the fall. They have done this every year since the company has started.

Week 9
This week is sod week. We have to have the grass laid by Saturday no matter what. Many of our crew is in Texas laying grass for the gold cup so it is just me and the crew Forman here for the week. We came down on Sunday to get a jump start at things. When we arrived the place was full of water. It did not make our jobs any easier. We are trying to get all the irrigation heads set and finish grading the sand and the native soil perimeter. This is a lot of work for 2 people. We logged 100 hours this week working till about midnight every night under the lights trying to get this field finished. Once Thursday came we were all most ready but the sod came anyway. We had some people come and help us lay sod. We later sod on the areas that we had done while we worked on the areas that needed grading. A lot of raking and grading with the skid-steer was done. Once the week was over we finally got all the grass laid and we finally finished this soccer field. It was cool to see this field built all the way through and I'm glad I stuck with it.

Week 8
This was a short week because it was July 4th weekend. I got to go back to Arkansas and spend time with my fiancé and family. This week we just worked Wednesday through Friday. We are now most concerned about getting the outside of the playing surface irrigation put in. All along the sand based field we are just using native soil and all that grass is going to have separate irrigation. We need to get all of this irrigation in because we need to start grading the outside native soil so that sod can be laid on it. This irrigation is very tricky because there are a lot of electrical wires that you have to dig around and many other drainage systems that are in the way. It makes for slow digging. We ended up getting all the irrigation done in those 3 days.

Week 7
This week I am at Georgia Military's soccer field trying to finish the drainage and irrigation so that we can get sand on the field. At this point we have all of the sand delivered but it is just piled up on the 3/4 of the field that we have done. This area is so small that we have been having to store equipment on the last 1/4 of the field. We have slowly got machines that are not needed out of the way and can finish the playing field. For the entire week we worked long hours completing the on field drainage and irrigation. We finished this and got all of our sand roughly pushed on that side of the field so that it could rain and not mess up our sub-grade.

Week 6
This week was another week with rain. We had hurricane Cindy that was down at the gulf that was bringing a bunch of moisture to our area. For the first couple of days I was down in Millageville GA trying to finish the soccer field. We got the rest of the sand on the days we were here and I graded with the box on the parts that we had finished. Then it rained here so we had to go back to Atlanta. The last of the week I was at the Atlanta United soccer practice facility. We added a strip of rootzone that was native soil. We sodded the strip after we completed the strip. We had a bunch of irrigation repairs that had to be done that made this job a slow process.

Week 5
This week I spent my entire week in Millageville GA working on the the sand capped soccer field at Georgia Military College. This week we installed a lot of irrigation. We put in the mainline and laterals on the field that had drain lines and was graded. I continued digging the mainline with the excavator. It is slow digging because of all the wires for the lights and scoreboard. At the end of the week we started to get the sand delivered to us. The sand comes in 18-wheeler trucks. We use a dozer to move the sand to rough grade. There is still one portion of the field that needs irrigation and drain lines before we can add sand. We should be adding sod after 4th of July unless we get pushed back by rain.

Week 4
This week at the beginning of the week was slow. We had steady rain on Sunday and then early during the week that set us back on our jobs. I was supposed to be headed to Millageville GA to continue building a soccer field. Instead on Tuesday I went to a private high school and resodded areas like the logo in the middle of the football field and only high traffic areas. On Wednesday I went to the sod farm and did a number of things including mowing and cutting big rolls of sod. Thursday and Friday we headed back down to Millageville. Here we started putting in irrigation. I dug trenches and laid down pipe. This week was filled with lots of learning about different thing. Next week I should be headed back down to Millageville to continue the building process.

Week 3
This week I was out of town the entire week. The first part of the week I was at Clemson University. We did a sprig job on their track field. My job was to load the sod rolls onto the sprig machine. I was also took sprigs and put them in places that the machine couldn’t get too. Finally I took a disc on the back of a tractor to pinch the sprigs into the soil. The second part of the week I was at Georgia Military College working on their sand capped soccer field. Precision is building the entire field and we are just getting started. I will be here for a couple of weeks and I’m excited to see the project through. This week we finished drainage work.
