janis knew better than to wander around at night; she really did , but the craving for sun chips and a red bull always hit harder after smoking her third bowl of the night. she tried finding something in the pantry to temporarily satisfy such a specific craving , but nothing came close. so , with pepper spray in one hand and a dull pocket knife that couldn’t cause damage to a piece of fruit sticking up from her boot , she went on her merry way to the convenience store two blocks away. the trip was quick ( had she ended up running ?  ) , the store’s fluorescent lights causing her to blink rapidly for a minute or so. however , the stun was quick as she navigated through the store with ease. grabbing the bag of chips , a cold can from the cooler , and a packet of gum for the road , she waited silently in line with the rest of the patrons. 

agile fingers went to scoop the red debit card from her jean pocket to no avail ; panic settled through her system as she checked the other three pockets for any sign of the plastic , nothing occurring in the process. “ FUCK !  “ she snapped under her breath , quietly smacking one of the front pockets with her free hand. the toxicity of having pride was never an issue for the girl , readily accepting help from anyone who offered in trying times. “ hey , “ she whispered , gently tapping on the male’s shoulder in front of her. “ do you think you can pay for my stuff ?  it’s about , five , maybe six dollars. if you give me your venmo i can— “ the familiar face caught her completely off guard as they exchanged glances , the look of shock in her eyes not matching the ever so calmness in the rest of her features. it had been a month , maybe longer ,  since their last interaction , but she couldn’t go a day without seeing his face floating around in her mind.  “ ...yes ?  no ?  i need to know if i gotta ask the guy behind me or not. “
