Synthetic materials are bad for the environment, everyone agrees, but defaulting hard into cow leather isn’t the counter-culture move you think it is.

Not only are there synthetics in “real” leather anyway but the leather industry is actively hindering the progress of non-animal and non-synthetic fibers. The reason we don’t have a popular alternative to either is because Big Leather has been pumping money into lobbying and squashing any momentum to phase them out—often and especially to the detriment of indigenous populations.

I was just served another vegan special on the plane: leftover veggies smashed between two pieces of bread. That was breakfast. Dinner was pretty good.

God I feel this, I always select the vegan meal at events obviously and I swear at least 50% of the time they offered the option and were just praying no one took it and then they throw together whatever they can make from what they have lying around. I would much rather just not be offered a vegan meal and then plan around it and pack my own food. The absolute worst was when I was sitting at a table of everyone eating chicken and steak and I had like a huge pile of old, cooked bell pepper and the tiniest, driest piece of polenta known to humankind. Come on!! It’s literally not that hard to make a decent vegan meal, that the average person is intimidated by it doesn’t bother me but if you’re a professional catering company or kitchen I know you can whip up some hummus or pasta with fresh veggies and red sauce. And if you can’t do that they just order some sofritas burritos from Chipotle or something for crying out loud

When we landed in Chicago they announced it as the home of the Pope and a good 50% of people cheered. I’m going to guess all the Catholics who were on organized group trips for the Jubilee
I’m at the gate surrounded by some of the happiest people on Earth this month: American Catholics lmao

Flying back and forth from Europe the past couple of years has given me a front line view of the surveillance state progression. I didn’t have to show my passport at O’Hare, they just facial recognitioned me into the country

Active job options in the works:
1. Startup that will probably be super intense but an amazing development experience
2. Large company similar to my previous one but role is in my exact domain
3. Old company, familiar territory, devil I know, etc

I took a chance and emailed a former colleague who’s now a Sr Director at another company and he sent a glowing recommendation to another VP and all of a sudden I have an interview. Sometimes you do win.
