All Roads Lead to NYC
All Roads Lead to NYC
Eighteen weeks. In exactly one hundred and twenty five days I will be boarding a ferry to Staten Island to compete in the New York City Marathon. Some days it still feels surreal to me that I have chosen to live this life of marathon training, let alone that I would voluntarily spend my twenty seventh birthday running with 50,000 runners through all five boroughs. But yet here I am, about to…

Let's Taco 'Bout It
Let’s Taco ‘Bout It
First, let me wish you a Happy Taco Tuesday! Let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good taco? Tacos are one of my all time favorite foods because they are nutritious and delicious, AND they don’t break the bank. #winning There are so many different options when it comes to the art of the taco. You can eat them at any time of day (hello, breakfast tacos), or you don’t even have to have a taco shell if…

#AdultingGoals: Learning to Cook for Myself
#AdultingGoals: Learning to Cook for Myself
I will be the first to admit I am a picky eater, I eat like a six year old. My favorite foods include chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, and donuts. And if I could eat like this every day and not pack on the pounds as well as feel like crap I 100% would. Sadly though these foods do not usually do the trick when fueling to run four to six days a week. Cronuts: Donut combined with a croissant =…

DJ Play that Song
DJ Play that Song
Raise your hand if when a great new song comes on the radio and you can’t help but think, this song makes me wanna run? Anyone??? Okay maybe it is just me but regardless, music is an integral part of me as a runner. As a former church choir singer, I can’t help but get lost in music. With that being said, I rarely listen to music when I am running (mainly for safety reasons); however, there are…

Some runs take more than you have to give. But that doesn't mean you stop, it doesn't mean you give up. It means you figure out a way to pick yourself back up and move forward. And every time you get back up, you get a little stronger.

What Would Your Bestie Say?
Ever have one of those days where you don’t feel like you are good enough? A run where you feel like you just royally suck? The day where you just don’t feel like you are pretty enough, smart enough, strong enough, etc...?
There are days when we fall into the trap of becoming consumed with this negative self talk and don’t know how to break the cycle. Wanna know a secret? Ask yourself what would your bestie say to you if they heard what the voice in your head was telling you? Yep, pretty sure they would tell you that you are crazy to think of yourself like that because you ARE good enough, you ARE pretty enough, you ARE strong enough.
Baby Chick Tip: The next time you are on a run where you start to panic that you can’t push any harder, talk to yourself like your bestie would. What would they say to you in that moment to encourage you to push just a little harder? I guarantee what your bestie would say is definitely not the negative self talk you are currently filling your mind with. Just try it - see what happens!
